cool video. It was crazy to me to see the full structure gear on a wildland fire. coming from the west coast, its a way of life here, however pretty standard attack im some aspects, alot of simple hoselays, structure protection, and a few ideal Urban Interface rigs even! (4X4, short wheelbase) as long as everybody made it home safely, thats all that matters. kinda cool to see what goes on on the other coast! thanks!

This is a cool vid and it does show how the Atlantic Seaboard does things different from the West Coast. Since I don't have knowledge of resources or what has already happened, I ask that you take my comments with a grain of salt. 1) I would appoint a Safety Officer and turn him free to do his thing. 2) I would appoint 1 Branch Manager each for structure and wild fire. Assign the engines to their respective Branch Managers. Now the resources I have are in place and and an active Safety Officer is among the troops. 3. Take a breath :-) and based on known resources, request a light helicopter to take a look around with your newly appointed Plans Chief, and Order 1 or 2 air tankers if available. 4) Consider hand crews to cut line if available. 5) It doesn't look like you will need a large logistics section but you will need to have something for the folks to eat later in the evening. I have run a volunteer battalion and one of the most important and difficult things is knowing who is actually on the wildfire and where they are. Volunteers come and go and it drives chiefs bats. Also, there needs to be someone to clock firefighters in and and take care of the fiscal end of things. This is what I would do based on what I was taught on on the Angeles NF. Except for LCES, the 10, and the 18, everything in a local jurisdiction could be different and that's ok.. I went to Guam for a couple of years to write a fire plan and start a wildfire organization. Everything was different especially the culture. If a person went into the "Boonies" he had to ask permission of "TauoTauoMona", the god of the ancestors, before he can enter, otherwise bad stuff will happen. This is really starting at the beginning.

Good video. 40 years ago we would just have our boots on with a fire like this......yes I know procedures have changed but we use what we had and still got the job done. When you add wind to the flames it makes it rough. I miss the volunteering big time....my back doesn't. Good job guys and gals

Good video, kind like wildland fired we have here in Northeast Missouri. really never had any calls, 3 year We are seeing a lot of housing be built in heavy timber area. Our station used to be a old truck for brush, a old grain truck with a 1000 gallon tank for a tanker and Old-fashioned 53 pumper. Now we got of nice equipment.

As the homeowner at #14, I didn't care if they showed up in one of Bruce Jenner's dresses! We are so grateful for these selfless, brave human beings and thank them from the bottom of our hearts! So when you're are all making fun of NJ (what exit?) look at these brave souls battling a brush fire in NJ.

Juziahh Green I missed the Explorer thing, any firefighter is a brother of mine, sorry bud, just thought you might be another civilian troll quarterbacking, you no how it is. We don't have will and gear because it is extremely rare we get brush fires to this severity. Just an active year for big brush fires for us.

Susan Osmun It's nice to e someone stand behind their fire department. Most people comment on things they know nothing about. Little Blitz 85 LZFD retired (Illinois)

Not a brush fire. This is a ground cover fire, leaves, etc.The guys driving the smaller engines need to slow down. Arriving on scene going that fast could kill someone.

@Nick D'Aniello Structure fire or no structure fire ,with that much smoke the SCBA's would not be a bad ideal to wear them breathing air. a little harder to work in . but a lot easier to breath
