For those of a certain age- okay, ME- that laugh track is so familiar it's like a friend or relative or close acquaintance, watching the show along with us... so helpful, informing us when something is funny, and that it's time to laugh.
I heard Sally Field say once that he protected her during the table reads of Gidget. When they were rehearsing, Field would come to a word in the script she didn't know and would mispronounce it, and the cast would laugh. Porter saw how embarrassed she was, so he sat next to her from then on and' would whisper the correct pronunciation of a complicated word to her before she had to speak it.
Interesting. IMDB lists 1962 as a release date, but the closing credits display TCF television logo from the mid 1950s with Irving Asher as head of production. In '62, Martin Manulis was running the TV arm of 20th Century Fox.
This has to be the 1950's and I can see that by the clothing styles and design of the home and hairstyles. I thought the year 1962 just did not go with what I was seeing. Those were the best of times for people.
Thank you for posting these, they provide an antidote for excessive nostalgia. Remember, in 1962 they would have been broadcasting Mr. Ed in prime time. People would have actually looked forward to it. This is not the same species that created Seinfeld. On the other hand carjacking was almost unknown in 1962. How many carjackings is Kramer worth?
Born in 61 now a Doctor!❤ Many say I have great bedside manners. Had great teachers with Med Schools focus on this. Who knows maybe thanks to this. I can see it being difficult to sell the pilot back in the day as, main co star is irritating character, rude to patients, fathering like a lot of fathers back then...clap hands, snap fingers, get to it or I'll give you a spanking ignorance passed down generations with no thoughtful change. Shows like My Three Sons were out then to focus on fathering to break what the ignorant didn't see as a problem. Foolishly that focused on good fathering type show ceased over the next 70 years. This style show was maybe 50s but needed to evolve for 60s. I think in 60s there was a popular show or two about doctors but uplifting to doctors I think....in the back of my head...anyone recall?
. Wikipedia has an entry for *Terry Burnham* , the child actress who played the daughter ("Liz Barkley") in this (0:39) and (19:42) : On October 7, 2013, Terry Burnham died of a cardiac arrest. As she had no surviving next of kin, her unclaimed cremated remains were stored at Los Angeles County Crematorium. On August 8, 2018, which would have been her 69th birthday, Burnham's ashes were buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Long Beach. 😟 .
Yes, and a slick politician running against Robert Redford for president in The Candidate. Melvyn Douglas played Redford’s crusty father. It’s a great movie.
The separate beds. My parents, who were from the same era, slept in separate beds❤ I grew up having a terrible fear that my husband would cheat on me - that fear is still paramount in women today. This little presentation traffic’s in that fear.
What a good program!! Is this the only episode that was ever made or are there any other ones to view? Wish it had been a regular program and not just a pilot. Fine acting by all. Wonder why it didn't make it past just a pilot TV show?
Terrific print. Good role for Don Porter.
Got a better one years later on Gidget, as her father.
Eleanor Audley as Mrs. Dixon is perfection. She always played the best society matron. She was such a good solid character actress. That voice!! ❤
She later played the mother of Oliver Wendell Douglas on Green Acres.

I like this show. Too bad there aren't any more episodes.
Darn, I was just about ready to look for more. I have never heard of this show before and I really enjoyed this episode. Sad they didn't make anymore.
How was this not picked up great acting great script could have ran for years
I always liked Don Porter in his roles:-)
Regardless of what I see him in, I can’t get past seeing him as Gidget’s father! 😂

I guess this is from around 1958-ish.
Agreed. It is also quite obvious that little Terry Burnham is much younger than her 1962 age of 13.
Mrs Dixon's car looks to be a 1957 Mercury.
@@forwimp nice!
cars & fashions def 50s
The good ole days when television shows were wholesome. This is a cute show.
Shame it didn’t sell. Cute show
Exactly what I thought 🙂
I would have loved it
There was already a similar sitcom at approximately the same time period : The Donna Reed Show
The daughter looks like the girl from the movie the bad seed
I thought the same thing
She played on The Twilight zone, as a woman's dream of herself
She's actually Terry Burnham. She appeared on an episode of The Twilight Zone (Nightmare As A Child).
It's not her
Patty McCormack played Rhoda in The Bad Seed
I thought that was Helen Kleeb as Cordelia. She went on to play Mamie Baldwin on The Waltons.
Thanks for showing the credits!
The mother Phyllis Avery would later play a sister on All In The Family. Yes, Sister Theresa 11 years later.

The little girl played Lana Turner's daughter in Imitation of Life i the first part of the movie.
Wasn't Sandra Dee Lana's daughter?
Produced in 1958- and was "burned off" on "THE COMEDY SPOT" {Red Skelton's summer replacement) on August 14, 1962.
That would explain the 1962 date, then.
Thank you for the post
This was very cute!

mr ed is more coherent than your babble
@zxccxz164 Your post is the equivalent of an obscenity spray painted on an overpass. No point, no argument, just free-floating malice.
i want more!!!!!!
I would have watched it
POR FAVOR SUBE UN EPISODIO DE"" DR. CHRISTIAN""TV SERIE 1956 MAC DONALD CAREY MUCHA GRACIAS
Don Porter played the dad in Gidget with Sally Field. This show is cute despite a really dumb title.
The maid is Helen Klebb, who was most famous for playing "Miss Mamie" Baldwin on The Waltons.
I liked it.
Cute show

Don Porter from “The Ann Sothern Show.”
And Gidget.
And a nasty villain on the six million dollar man🫨

I like it, too bad it wasn't sold.
This could've been picked up by a network...
"I thought you made a deal with the milkman Mom" Years later on Maury Povich the DNA test proved the Doctor was not the father. 🤣
I guess this was supposed to be a knock off of the Donna Reed Show.
the writing is awful
Only that ran for eight years (1958-66)😎
Interesting!

Later was senator Crocker Jordan😺
Wow, life before HIPPA
❤🎉👍
Is the daughter the same girl who starred in "The Bad Seed?"
No that was Patty McCormick. Same look though.
At first glance, she does resemble her!
@@janfromseattle
Yes, I thought it was Patty McCormack too. Really resembles her a lot.
She has same hair and painfully short bangs!!!!😂
She's Terry Burnham.
A better title would have been, Doctor Laughs.
Well there’s some actual sense and medical facts in this, too bad it wasn’t a show, maybe people would’ve learned more
I like The Donna Reed show better.
I’m pretty sure it’s the same actress. That was a good movie though.
Better than Dick Van Dyke or I Love Lucy. Slapstick isn't my thing. This was fun.
So why didn't it become a full series?
Typical early 1960's creme puff nonsense with a laugh track.
Promoting the destructive osteopathic field. .
@phnxforlife -- why do you say that?
Hated everything about this show 🤨
Shows grt , sad it never made it
