I'm from Oregon, USA where Tillamook cheese is made. I recently moved to the midwest for school and we don't have Tillamook cheese, but you guys in South Korea have it! It doesn't make any sense!!!
I was also extremely surprised they had Tillamook cheese when there is barely any where I live in America after having moved from Portland, OR. Tillamook cheese is awesomely delicious by the way.
+Simon and Martina Too late! I went on to the archive channel from here! Such youngin's! (Now I see where you got that Kirkland brand Benadryl stuff during that one Eat Your Sushi episode... Zzz...)
I don't remember if I had ever been in Costco but I've been in BJ's and Sam's Club, which are virtually the same thing. Those stores are amazing and I loved going there to look at the giant packaged versions of food. (along with the toys when I was a kid, of course)
It is so funny to watch this now. I remember watching it back in 2008, before I had a chance to go to Korean Costco for the first time. Now I go to Costco in Omaha every month. Ah, the memories.
This video makes me so happy. I am moving to Korea from Kamloops Canada soon and seeing that there is a Costco with some North American food makes me so happy. Is there Kraft dinner by any chance? Will my Costco card from Canada work there????
A bacon sandwich, of course, sounds Fantastic! I know Koreans like to wrap 'stuff' in lettuce & other similar leaves... BUT, can you get TOMATOS?!?!?? ;)
Watching your shopping haul and wondering how much of it you would still eat/crave now. I know you guys had mentioned your tastes have changed over the years.
I went to Costco in Korea (I'm in Daejeon) and bought some of the very same things! Though I eat mostly Korean food here, the cereal and cold cuts were a must! And cheese, wow, Y-E-S. Brie and wine from CostCo. CostCo's a great company. It's so funny the experiences that we "Weiguk-in" go through here. Korea really is it's own little world.
I think I met your friend Chris like a year or two before this was filmed. We were both living in Vancouver at the time, and he'd visit the coffee shop I was working at in UBC . Crazy. Small world!
There's a costco in daejeon. I live in Jeonju and the 2 hours we spend travelling to and from costco is so worth it. Simon and Martina - in case you didn't see it - they do have MAPLE bacon!!! (I'm from Ontario too). They have those yummy butter croissants. And yes - cheese, honey ham - as well as a floor for home supplies.
wow, old school. I know you guys eat totally differently now than you did then. I was wondering if you guys could do another daily type grocery run now that you are in japan and eating healthy stuff. call me strange, but I like watching your food videos cuz it helps increase my appetite that I sometimes struggle with between my severe IBS (which makes a lot of foods seem scary) and depression (lose my drive to go make the food I can have safely).I've been open to trying new foods and had ddoebokki a few weeks ago for the first time and I did fine =) love you guys!
Thank you all for trying to help each other learn more about how manage living in South Korea. I didn't know that vitamin supplements cost more in Korea. Also, I'm learning about the different places to go around town. These videos about Korea are very helpful to business travelers and tourists in Korea. I would like to see more videos of some affordable places to eat and sleep in Korea. Thanks for posting this video.
When Costco finally came to Taejon a few years ago it changed the lives of many expats living in Korea. Years ago the closest thing to a ham sandwich you could get was spam, tastless Seoul Brand processed cheese on corn bread with honey mustard. It was a life of substitutes. Costco and online delis run by expats have changed all that. Finally I would like to give a shout out for Nicedeli. Check out their online shop. Not affiliated with them, just a satisfied customer.
I know right? I've met Korean exchange students who knew about Kirkland because of Costco. It's so cool. :) Plus Tillamook make awesome cheese and ice cream.
@Kim Taeyeon Yes, they make vegan bacon. Bacon is composed of virtually nothing but fat & salt (there's some muscle & veins but it has virtually no taste at all) and the 'special' flavor that everyone likes so much is added artificially. They use a type of liquid smoke if I remember correctly. So... it's an easy item to replicate and the vegan version is, of course, much healthier.
I was surprised to see Tillamook Cheese and the Johnsonville sausages! I love the cheese sausages. I live in Oregon (USA) where they make Tillamook cheese, and it's sold EVERYWHERE here. Though it use to be make in Bandon, OR....Bandon cheese is coming back though! Good stuff!
I've never been to Costco, we don't have one around here, it looks a lot like Sam's Warehouse where I live. Very cool that you could find all that stuff.
Wow this is the first video yall made where Martina starts to lighten up a bit and isn't so serious. I think it's because of your most successful foraging trip to Costco :) Food tends to make me happy like that too!
Made my first trip there yesterday, after being in Seoul for 3 weeks. The clothing section is not as big as in Canada or US, and what is there is about a 50/50 mix of Asian/American sizes, so unless you are a small westerner or a large Asian, your choices are even more limited. The line-ups for samples (while they were cooking) was kind of strange to me. In Canada: "Not ready? (a) I don't want it that baddly, or (b) I'll do a lap and circle back." I agree that there are many "taste of home" things there... Granola was in my cart too!
O.O They have my favorite store!!!! ;p lol not most favorite but I definitely love stocking up there, it's the sort of place where your parents can take you when you're little and you wont be bored out of your mind you know? You can just chill in the books section, eat free samples, run around, explore...etc...anyway I'll be sure to go to Costco if I ever go to Korea! ;p
2 years since i watched this and now its kind of my dream to open a cookie/ bakery shop in korea lol so koreans can eat soft cookies haha since i make awesome cookies so a person can dream haha i cant wait
That was actually a nice price for pistachios. Here in America a bag that size is $17.88 at Sam's Club, so $16/17 for that bag 5 years ago isn't bad! ^_^
I love your videos :) I was thinking to do the same as you (teach english), but in Japan... Just wanted to ask, did you learned how to talk Korean before you got there of did you learned by talking with people and living there ?
THIS IS SOOOOOOOO HANDY, THANK YOU GUYS. i'm moving to seoul at the end of the month and i'm freaking out because i'm gunna miss my colby jack cheese so much (and i'm not willing to splurge 1200 won at the pyuneejums for a cheese stick. RIDICULOUS). I HOPE THEY STILL HAVE EVERYTHING YOU GUYS BOUGHT AT THAT TIME.
lol Yes however I don't ever remember walking in to a Costco here and being able to get clam chowder at the snack bar. Hot dogs, pizza, chicken bakes, frozen yogurt, ice cream bars, smoothies, churros, sodas and salad sure but clam chowder, never.
Oh my goodness, When i went to Korea and stayed at my aunts place, she tried to make me feel at home and cooked me bacon. BUT it was round and tasted like ham instead...needless to say I got home and cooked me some real bacon. Tasted....like...heaven~
What Korean-branded groceries can you buy there and please tell me where this Costco was and how you can get a membership, if different from a North American COSTCO membership?
I don't know how they learned but a program called the Rosetta Stone is amaaaazing. You learn how to read, write, and speak all at once. It is a bit pricey but you can always find it through torrents. lol
they're more expensive b/c most of them are imported. for instance their cheese are mostly imported b/c korea doesn't have a big cheese industry. the imported fruits can be quite pricey too. also costo's only in Seoul, and seoul has more of the richer population in the country
wow, it's exactly the same... that's it, if i live in a foreign country, it MUST have costco stores/warehouses! that way i could still feel like i'm at home. ^_^
it looks good but shoe more of costco there like the store and maybe some off the demo that they have. i went to the costco in glasgow in scotland. that one was small but it wasnt bad.
Damn! that big bag of pistachios actually seems pretty decent in price compared to the price of them here in Australia! haha I loooove my pistachios! :)
Margarine is definitely best for eggs when considering flavor and texture, but butter does it just as well. Oil can make eggs puke-soppy with no flavor. Too bad you are missing out on butter. It contains vitamins and no trans fats unlike margarine. It does great at minimal quantity of consumption. "To each his own."
My mum's friend had the membership so they shared it(they check the ID card b4 enter) I loved the soft cookie and the giant pizza only around 12000₩ lol cheesy and very delicious. My mum went there to buy real western foods but I don't live in Korea now I live in totally western country NZ so foods taste kinda same and my toungues are also westernised lmao. But still eat kimchi everyday XD
Wait. What about butter toast in the morning? Sadly, I gave that all up to watch my figure. I only have butter toast and fried eggs twice a month. Telling me to do with out butter is like fighting words. LOL! :D
So weird seeing Martina without her pink hair 😝
*nostalgic music*
Or her tattoos.
"Don't go back to those videos!"
Me: *searches for old videos on purpose* Mwhahah- THEY WERE SUCH FETUSES! 😲
And extra nerdy since we were still teaching 🤓
Simon and Martina OHMIGOODNESS YOU REPLIED!!
SENPAI! *kowtows*
I'm from Oregon, USA where Tillamook cheese is made. I recently moved to the midwest for school and we don't have Tillamook cheese, but you guys in South Korea have it! It doesn't make any sense!!!
love Tillamook. My uncle who lives in Camas right across the bridge from Portland sends me Tillamook cheese loaves all the time.
I was also extremely surprised they had Tillamook cheese when there is barely any where I live in America after having moved from Portland, OR. Tillamook cheese is awesomely delicious by the way.
I loved it when i lived in western Idaho, a whole lot more Tillamook cheeses than here in California!
I think they carry Tillamook cheese at Costco. Though, you need a membership ($55/year) to shop there.
Watching this for the first time in 2017. Been following you for 3+ years now. Glad to watch an old video :)
Holy cow, I found a 2008 video. O_O
+::star girl:: run away while you still can! This video is too old!
+Simon and Martina Too late! I went on to the archive channel from here! Such youngin's! (Now I see where you got that Kirkland brand Benadryl stuff during that one Eat Your Sushi episode... Zzz...)
+::star girl:: woah they replied to your comment even though it's an an old video
+Mari Ana I know, right? They're awesome. :D (And they're everywhere! Eep!)
does japan has costco too?
Aw, baby faced Simon.
Great idea! We'll have to make a video with that info.
This is wild. It’s like watching some kind of home movie compared to their videos now.
I don't remember if I had ever been in Costco but I've been in BJ's and Sam's Club, which are virtually the same thing. Those stores are amazing and I loved going there to look at the giant packaged versions of food. (along with the toys when I was a kid, of course)
Yup! We adopted a dog in Korea, and his name is Spudgy. ^O^
Gotta love watching these old videos
No Ranch....That is just crazy talk!
BTW Tillamook Cheese comes from Oregon in America.
I had no idea they have Costco in Korea. It looks exactly like it does in the states. The amount of American products they have there is amazing!
you can hear her accent in this video
Of Montreal is the BEST! Nice to hear it repped as an anthem for Korean Costco haha
Haha I love your guys' videos. So well done!! The music is ridiculously addicting as well :)
Here I am watching this 10years after
Damn how'd you get here?
Simon and Martina I've been watching a lot of WANK videos again and it just popped up. Is this like a throwback for you guys too?😅
So nostalgic! I first left Canada to Korea that same year. So much has changed, including Costco there. Yangjae Costco, busiest in the world.
A bacon sandwich, of course, sounds Fantastic!
I know Koreans like to wrap 'stuff' in lettuce & other similar leaves...
BUT, can you get TOMATOS?!?!?? ;)
We white people need cheese to survive. :D
Best comment bc it's TRUE
the price of those pistachios...o.m.g I thought they were expensive here. You could do a shopping video for Japan :D that would be awesome!
Who watching it in 2016 like me?
Definitely
me too !
2017 ="D
2018😊
Nope I'm from the future and it's 2018 now!
Thanks for sharing this. We are moving to Daejon in August and its good to know where we can go easy shopping for items we are familiar with.
I remember watching this...7 years ago. xD
wow, old school. I know you guys eat totally differently now than you did then. I FOUND IT! the first time Simon mentioned Ranch xD
I love you guys even more for having an Of Montreal song in this video. Neverthless one of my favourite ones.
Thank you all for trying to help each other learn more about how manage living in South Korea. I didn't know that vitamin supplements cost more in Korea.

Thanks for posting this video.
OMG, that's the exact same stuff they serve at the Costco food court here in the Minneapolis area. Nice to see something so familiar from so far away.
When Costco finally came to Taejon a few years ago it changed the lives of many expats living in Korea. Exactly!! coldcuts, soft cookies, johnsonville sausages.... I also crave for these when I stay in korea for more than weeks
Costco is amazing. Apparently they pay their employees well too, better than most other retailers at least.
Good stuff!

yes, but vitamins and supplements are super expensive in korea... but costco should have a bit cheaper than other places b/c they sell things in bulk
Made my first trip there yesterday, after being in Seoul for 3 weeks.

Go Korea and Canada! TOTALLY love both countries!
Do they have those big Costco cakes in korea? I haven't had one of them in ages. I love the icing on them.
It's so funny to see how much your tastes have changed since you first started out. :)
lol Yes however I don't ever remember walking in to a Costco here and being able to get clam chowder at the snack bar. Hot dogs, pizza, chicken bakes, frozen yogurt, ice cream bars, smoothies, churros, sodas and salad sure but clam chowder, never.
Anybody in 2018?
2019??
wow, I'm impressed that you guys dragged these home on subways.
Oh my goodness, When i went to Korea and stayed at my aunts place, she tried to make me feel at home and cooked me bacon. BUT it was round and tasted like ham instead...needless to say I got home and cooked me some real bacon. Tasted....like...heaven~
Here in the Philippines are version of costco is S&R its kinda expensive if you earn a normal salary rate here in the Philippines.
What Korean-branded groceries can you buy there and please tell me where this Costco was and how you can get a membership, if different from a North American COSTCO membership?
its amazing, costco actually ship the same thing around the world.
watching it in 2017!

Hilarious that the suggested video on the side is Simon & Martina's 'How we lost weight in Korea'. Answer - we stopped going to Costco!
Costco Korea and Japan are what is keeping Costco alive.
What ever happened to Chris and the clam chowder lady?
They died in the Korean War.
wow, it's exactly the same... that's it, if i live in a foreign country, it MUST have costco stores/warehouses! that way i could still feel like i'm at home. ^_^
I live in WA and I always thought that Tillamook was a regional brand!
it looks good but shoe more of costco there like the store and maybe some off the demo that they have. i went to the costco in glasgow in scotland. that one was small but it wasnt bad.
thank you!! i'm not the only one who goes to Costco to get great loads of pistachios
@terceldude lol, no. I've just never been a fan of dry crunchy cookies, with one exception though... ginger snaps
Damn! that big bag of pistachios actually seems pretty decent in price compared to the price of them here in Australia! haha I loooove my pistachios! :)
Best pizza in Korea! We would stop in there on the way home to Ori just for the pizza! yum!
@Seoulinmyheart Costco is like that everywhere, including US.
So do you need a new Costco card in Korea if you have one in North America?
yes, here too in indo we import from australia
My dream has always been to live in Korea but having lived in US my whole (teensy) life I was wondering if the food difference is like really HUGE ^^*
I go to Sams Club^^ I've been inside a Costco and to me Sams Club is a little cheaper. It all depends on what brands they carry and what you prefer^^
TILLAMOOK!!! hehe, it's from Oregon...nice to see that it can be found in Korea :)
i went to a korean costco. I could use my american costco card to get in. It was a really cool place
i think so. just like you need to have a membership to shop in american costcos
"Would it be wrong if I smothered my bacon in crunchy peanut butter and ate it?" - that is the key to my heart.
Blueberries and honey are very expensive in Korea, I usually buy the honey in Canada and send it to my family in Korea
You really changed a lot...
Man, that's so crazy that Martina had Tillamook cheese, considering that's made in my state...all the way in Korea!
I had a peanut butter and jelly bacon burger and it was incredible.
You can't find decent salsa? I've had no trouble finding spicy pace import salsa in local convenience stores and i live in total hickland.
Oh lawd 😂 That cheese looks heaven
Can you believe it's been 10 years?
I like your music for Korean Costco
do they have the free sample system there too? xD
Omg that is the best
thats only those special items in costco and stuff. but eating out is REEAALLYY cheap in korea
Wait. What about butter toast in the morning? Sadly, I gave that all up to watch my figure. I only have butter toast and fried eggs twice a month. Telling me to do with out butter is like fighting words. LOL! :D
You should some time make a trip to Oregon and to the Tillamook Cheese Factory and then head to Seaside!!
How do you get furniture to your apartment if you have to go on a subway?
In their earlier years, they were in Bucheon.
wow id be so happy in korea because i dont eat any of those things very often....and i LOVE soup in the morning! hahaha :3
Aahah This Korean Costco seems really small...the one i have at home is HUGE!
