I would like to clarify something because I see many people commenting about it. This robot will not compete. I am a senior in high school, so I am to old. I coach a team and that is how I have access to a mat. I wanted to post this video to give teams ideas on how to complete missions. Do not worry if your team is not at this level. You will most likely never see a robot that scores this high at your competition.
I'm in 6th grade at Wadsworth STEM Academy but we do the animal Allies and we have won grand champions on our first competition with 60 points then on our next competition we won with 100 something points, by seeing this really steps my game up!!
I think your scoring might be wrong. I punched it in to a scorer and think you might have counted the yellow bin to be supported completely by the truck. So if youwanted to get the 953 points you would need to move the truck past the end of the track with the yellow bin. Great job! Very inspirational.
Do you have LDD files for any of your designs, or at least some closeup pictures? That one-way gate attachment on the front and the rack and pinion designs are two that looked cool
On our robot we had only programmed one mission for the day... But luckily I managed to save our butts by programming like 5 missions lol! We ended up coming 2nd for the missions - we would have come first but I was nervous so I kept on placing the robot in the wrong place. :P
Some good Designs for the robot game this year! Just make sure you look at the rules closely, you can not leave the bin there to collect the compost in between mission runs. Also your robot looks over the 12" height when starting your second run.
Really cool design ideas Madi. I like the use of the flat gears. I saw them on brickowl.com. Great way to extend reach. The wheels I do remember from the NXT education edition. Also can be found on BrickOwl. The last mission you show with the sorter looks like tank track links. I think those are EV3 education add on kit or something. I love showing videos from others to my teams. One of my favorite teams has always been LegoVinir with their modularity but I really like your direct targeted designs. Should I assume that beyond coaching FLL you also compete in FRC or FTC? Keep challenging yourself and thanks for all the great ideas.

Madi:In our Regio we had the same Transport like you but we Just got 60 Points.You just get 110 Points if the Transport is with the yellow Box at the east zone.Cause this we just got 60 Points.

I didn't notice it until now because of the position of the table wall and angle of the camera but the right angle frame that collects the demolition pieces lands partially in safety when the robot drops it. R14 would require that frame to be immediately returned to safety and that would be a junk penalty. Shortening the frame so it is completely outside safety would fix the problem. Apologies if you've already noticed and corrected this.
Ya I have fixed it. I actually completely scraped that first run because of how inconsistent it was. I split it in to two different mission that work almost all the time.

Madi Jones, your robot is awesome! I am coaching a team of 5th graders. What impressed me most is your ability to make that robot move consistently. Are you using any sensors other than the color sensor to move the robot? Any programming pearls of wisdom that you are willing to share? Our team is from Canada. For our robot, it is completing all the missions, but anything to do with sorter. 758 points, but I have one question. For the start of the robot, does it have to be all the way in the Base, or can it also be in the safety?
+Donald Localio My team was at a scrimmage today and one team took the truck west of the guide=track. They did it by pushing the truck until the bin was on it, raised their pushing attachment, drove past the truck, and lowered it again lifting the back of the truck just enough to clear the end of the track. The front of the truck just slipped over the end. The mission worked on of the three times they tried it but at this point in the season, that's still pretty good.
I have seen two different methods (one similar to what Ken Johnston describes) score the full 110 truck points and heard about a third which I hope to see this Sunday.

Amazing! We are a fairly new team (two returning and two new this season) - the kids noticed that you did not remove the valuables prior to demolition. Is it not necessary to remove them first? Also that you have multiple animals in one circle -- this is giving them pause to re-consider.
Congrats for making this amazing robot! Our team is competing early 2016, but it will most likely never be advanced as this. It's a shame you can't compete, you would have made it to nationals! I saw in the comments that you built this in under two weeks. You must be really talented to build something like this in such a short amount of time! I just have one question: how did you turn the wheel of the "sorting" mission? It's absolutely fine if you do not want to answer this question, since it could give other teams an advantage. Actually, my team as well did not pull down the red lever. To score points, the entire building needs to be completely demolished with no pieces left standing. So, according to that, you don't have to pull down the lever. My team found it difficult to pull down the lever, so we just didn't pull it down (but we still completed the mission.).
+Sam Mae Our robot drove over the lever. You only need to program your robot so it wil go to a place you want because ours was doing crazy things when it droves over it :-)

What are you driving with? It seems like you have 2 large motors with 2 big wheels attached to them on the back, but what's in the front? Are you using a ball caster in the front, or do you have another 2 big wheels (if so, I hope they're geared up to the other wheels, otherwise the friction would be an engineering disaster :) ), or do you have some sort of smaller wheels hooked up to a gear ratio?
The careers mission and the plastic bag mission are not connected at all. Please read the rules and the rule updates before you make false accusations on people's videos.

I have emailed them about the rule regarding the compost bin. It does not say you can't do it. Also it is just under the height limit.

I suspect that this robot uses a similar geared attachment system to Lego Vinir. It isn't obvious because the transitions aren't in the video.

It has to be all the way in base before you launch a mission and it has to be all the way in safety before you can touch the robot again.

Yes, it is legal to do demolition without pulling the red lever. :) in fact, that's exactly what my team did.

I just use bars as skids on the bottom. I find it easiest to work with and there's not much friction.
