I’m just back from Austin few days ago. The major problem is the distance between vehicles and therefore tailgating. Car crashes on i35 happen every day as a direct result of this. Another thing I have noticed. Some roads had two lanes before and now they have three lanes. Given the sizes of cars sometimes it was very very hard to keep my rented Tahoe between marked lines. Road works don’t help either. Concrete barriers are too tight to the traffic. When I was coming back from San Antonio to Austin on i35 south in one place I had nearly brushed the side of the car against the concrete barrier which appeared from nowhere with very poor illumination. I burned four tanks of gas over 9 days and I saw just a couple of bad drivers, and they are not any worse than in Ireland, Spain or UK. In my opinion the amount of cars there overgrew the Austin itself. Instead of building flyovers money would be better spent on development of quicker public system like trams helping commuters.
I’ve stopped giving the bird for behavior like this and now give everyone thumbs down. I feel it has a bit more meaning and maybe they’ll think about their actions more. Maybe I’m just delusional?? Haha
My Papa does the same thing.. He throws his hand up like he's gonna flip them off, then slowly turns his thumb down at them with a grimace. It's pretty entertaining.. And somehow nobody is ever enraged by it, like they would be if it were 🖕

Agreed. The finger never helps matters anyway. It just makes people angry, and really it's just nasty.
