Uturn | Balance AllTerrain tilting trike

  • The construction and the tests have now been completed, as I had invented a superior implementation of a tricycle with the obvious advantage of tilting and comfortable, off-road riding. Uturn allterrain tilting trike has a rear system suspension leaning mechanism that is based on an idea I had years ago. Its implementation was a very difficult process, but I succeeded in proving that the basic working principle fulfills its goal.
    The suspension trike seen in the video is commissioned by "Cekta", a film equipment company. The aim is to carry cameras in the rear, as well as a passenger. From now on, my goal is to build a lighter model with some transmission improvement, so that anyone can buy it. At the rear, in addition to the suspension and tilting mechanism, there will be a frame mount design for cargos or whatever else suits the buyer’s needs.
    More videos that will provide better views will become available in the near future, while I will also improve the basic version of the bike!

    Very nice design. I like the "sprung differential effect to link suspend the back wheels" with "a true differential effect". Driving both the rear wheels like that, is not exactly "a differential" as the slower wheel drives when cornering, and the faster wheel basically freewheels around.
    An excellent design but I would guess that it is rather expensive to build for the mass market. The later one with concentric shafts for the sprung suspension, tilting and drive is excellent. Still, it is a brilliant and a nice piece of engineering, or should I say, a useful prosthetic aid, just like any engineered car, aircraft, ocean going liner and a train or a bus or a truck or indeed, a pair of shoes, all engineered to save our legs. .

    awesome, great job. keep forward, let me ask you something which is better for electric tri-bike or tri-motorcycle, what do think the rear tilting is better for? and front tilting is better for? Remember: turning radius, stability, comfortability, weight, off road, traffic situation for commute, security, grip and traction(dynamics).

      I do not really have opinion about motor trikes. For the electric ones i think rear trikes are more stable and have better cornering abilities. Also that provide better and smoother off road behaviour. I think frame has to be charged with road characteristics. Not drivers hands.

    Any issues with it being sketchy at high speed? It there any room in the design/scope for a full suspension version?

    First was wondering about the Black Dot but then i saw it ;) How Heavy is that and what Type of User would Benfit from that?
    I think about 40Kilo or maybe some above? When i would own this one i need a Garage to put it safe away.

    Its absolutely great! However I believe that physics prefers the two wheels to be on the front for cornering dynamics, grip and traction.

      For non-tilting trikes yes. You could clearly see in the video this bike had no problems turning and cornering...

    My understanding is that trike design is most useful in a recumbent bike and allows for large wheels in that configuration. I don’t understand the advantage of a trike over a bike in an upright rider position. Nonetheless, superior engineering!

    This looks great 👍 such a shame that so few large manufacturers are not being innovative and adopting and applying such technology to their existing trikes or to create trikes from the ground up with similar functionality. How soon is this going to be released into the consumer market and how far would be planning to sell these ; all of Europe including the dearly departed UK where I am located or just your local region ?

      Hello.
      Thank you for your kind words. Bike industry do not seems to pay respect at tricycles advantages especially on turning. For now, I improve my own design and at the same time execute individual customer orders. By the time i come with the most satisfied product i will go with kickstarter to reach the European market (maybe UK also)

      not with aten foot pole it is built to break see how he comes to anear stand still going over the yellow stump its gearedso low he speeds the film up its atank slow one at that isthe bike able to stand on its own probaly not when you add weight trust me it will change your whole design you should of design it around carrying weight its to slow the tilt isnt realy needed all that chain counter balance i bet its single speed day in day out nope that is why manufactures wont run with it

    when you are on the road, and you are not the only one, how do you see, where the space is wide enough, to get through the gap between the curb and other vehicles.
    I would prefer the two wheels on the front, to make it more practical. unless you can commandeer all the road space, just for you.

    You censored the tilting mechanism. But i belive it is just a differential with a fixed ring gear.

      I think he used a 3D camera and that unfortunately pointed the dead zone at the differential.

    How well does the trike do on steady incline? Like to see more dirt footage and hard pedaling situations. is there any problems with the chain derailing pedaling thru rough terrain? mud ? and sand? to be called a true all terrain there is gravel roads cobble stone roads . does the bike have duel drive it will have a hard time in gravel ,sand, mud , you have to stand up and get on it .All terrain ??? one more thing pedaling while performing tight turning figure eights in all terrains could happen in unpredictable traffic situations .is your bike design to with stand the rigors of a daily work horse. to much can go wrong for the average person who wants to use it every day and when you start adding weight on the obvious fragile design in all terrains say up hill on a rainy muddy day then you will see the inferior in your self proclaimed superior design .let the bike be test in true life situations with true daily riders where dependability is more of a must these are the people who will decide if its superior .no offense i know a little about building bikes, the arrogance wow!!!

    I cannot see what the advantage is? The proof is turning at speed with say 30kgs of load in the rear tray to see how stable it is empty proves nothing as being on flat ground has no value either in the real world there are steep incline's as well as flat ground
