Internet is a freakish thing. I was hearing Jhonka hawa ka aaj bhi and I wondered although I liked the song I was thinking to myself that this song sounded tailor made for being a Mehdi Hasan classic. And in the night I find Hari Haran saying he has tried to adapt his philosophy into his music.
Very good connection. I'm sure it was influenced by the great Ustads style.

For the information of Interviewer Mahdi Hassan saab born and brought up in India [Jaipur] later he shifted after partition to Pakistan. His forefathers were singing for King of Jaipur.

Wo throwing, projection, ambience or liye jo lay jo beats, jo supporting notes, jo platform chahiye tha wo unlogon ne diye. Jab suntahoon wo tabla, wo esraj, wo harmonium to sochta hoon keya expertise then unke!!!! Tab jake wo concert intu uchayi pe pohche. Ek ghalat ei barikise dosorder would kill his song but never found one in 100s of unedited live recording!!! Kudos to his team!

And sorry and to me those players were bigger a musician than the singer. They gave the unparalleled platform. If you song you will know how a great tabla player keeps the tempo and avoid strokes in places and creates the theme with his playing strokes rightly with the lyric, throw and emotion of the song. These ultimate singers were lucky to have them on stage. My intention is not to get into argument but I know what I am saying. Take care

Perhsps, the great Mehdi Hassan Saab was the finest improvisation artist in the World Of Ghazal Gayiki ! It was as if he had master almost all ragas of the Hindustani Classical Music through their deft handling and appropriate application in his divine creations ! The great Mehdi Hassan Saab had a rare God - gifted ability to make the most difficult of the ragas - like Raag Darbari and Raag Sahera - to name a few - for instance - look pretty simple ! Such a resourceful singer will ever tread this path again in the world ! It was as if the ROOH (SPIRIT).if Ghazal Gayiki had gone, along with his sad demise ! What a terrible loss it was !
According to classical musicians of repute, the style of singing is changing and new raags and style are born. Can you imagine if the style had been same as it was 2/3 century ago? Artists who have made pure boring classicals to great attractions include Mehdi, bade gulab Saab, nusrat Saab, salamat Saab and others.

आपने तो 1975 में सुना खान साहब को।
हम तो 1970 से उनके मुरीद हैं।
एक रेडियो कार्यक्रम आता था "S Kumar का फिल्मी मुकदमा" विविध भारती पर। अमीन सयानी वकील का किरदार करते थे। और गुंहेगार के किरदार थे मेहंदी हसन साहब । और उस मुकदमे में एक घंटे तक खान साहब ने अच्छी तरह से बात चीत की। संगीत के गुर सिखाए।
अब मैं 70 साल का हूं। और तकरीबन 2 से 3 घंटे उनकी गजलें सुनते हैं।

मूर्ख है इसलिए ऐसा बोला। भारत के एक टुकड़े का नामकरण पाकिस्तान हुए तो 70-75 साल ही हुए हैं। अगर वंशावली उपलब्ध होती तो पता चलता कि सबके बाप दादे संस्कृत या हिंदी में ही बोलते थे।

I have had one CD given to me by someone, containing an old recording of Mehdi Hassan sahab's some public programme in Mathura probably, where he explained why some particular raga is inspired by which of our deities e.g. some particular raga was inspired by Hanuman ji and so on...! I was amazed by his great awareness, knowledge and feel about our Hindu mythology, culture, language, geographical and cultural trends that shocked me to no end. Even most of music legends of India might not have that kind of awareness and knowledge about our own culture and ethos!
