Definitions
Duration of tone: = with the irradiance of the star; from this follows, the star cannot be seen with the naked eye nor can it be heard.
Highest note: at zenith (56°9')
Only constant note: The North Star
Sound corridor: = the median
Tone range: 90 1/2 tones ( = 90°)
Duration: 4 hours.
Procedure
When a star passes the median = the sound corridor, it is transformed into a tone, with a specific pitch and duration, then stored in a computer according to location and brightness in the starry sky, according to the above definition.
Comments
The result was a 4 hour long absolutely non-commercial piece of music that took it easy. Stars are not particularly busy. That's why we decided to compress it with a factor of 9.6, so that the result could be compressed onto a cassette tape. The sound sources are the result of DIEM'S and Bo Astrup’s sample libraries.
