Reminds me of when I'd be home because I was sick and wasn't at school. Mom would watch this show. I'd be laying on the couch with soup. I credit this show to me being able to spell "tomorrow " by the 2nd grade!
looking back, there was a lot of things we could learn - back in the days when television was deliberately - and unintentionally - educational..i learned spellings and a certain amount of medical jargon and their meanings!!....
I wish there was a YT upload of a Search episode in June of 1975 when Dr. Tony Vincente Jo's husband was in a fight with a mobster and suffered a fatal heart attack and also when Jennifer Pace Phillips then married to Scott Phillips fell through a glaas window.
By 1967 - the year Search went to color - the S in Search's logo took on more of the swash flourish that the T has - what you see in the later part of this video. Too bad that these are still shots. I loved seeing those clouds in motion.
Duncan Hines Brownie Mix--my sisters and I would eat the liquid chocolate flavor packet before our mother could mix it in with the brownie mix. The brownies did not turn out too well.
My God... they really improved the opening/closing /bumper music by next year... this almost sounds like what you would hear from soap operas in the 1950s.
Stay Tuned for As The World Turns 35 minutes from now following the news on most these CBS Stations........................ This program was pre - recorded
35 minutes?..Dwight Weist's expression was ''one half-hour from now.....''..Bill Wolfe, announcing at the closing of ''Lovers and Friends'' (1977), was 'stay tuned 30 minutes from now for ''Days of Our Lives''....
Well back on March 26, 1973 CBS cut back Search for Tomorrow to 25 minutes to make room for the CBS Midday News with Douglas Edwards which moved to 12:55 PM Eastern/11:55 AM Central & Pacific time right after Search for Tomorrow, then Love of Life moved from 11:30 AM Eastern/10:30 AM Central & Pacific time to 3 PM Eastern/2 PM Central & Pacific time following The Edge of Night and The Young and the Restless would premire following Love of Life at 3:30 PM Eastern/2:30 PM Central & Pacific to a lead - in for The Secret Storm (1973 - 74), a game show called Tattletales from (1974 - 75), Musical Chairs from June 16 to October 31, 1975 and then Give 'n Take from November 3 to November 28, 1975. Before CBS would move The Guiding Light to 2:30 PM Eastern/1:30 PM Central & Pacific, Love of Life to 3:30 PM Eastern/2:30 PM Central & Pacific (following reruns of All in the Family which aired at 3 PM Eastern/2 PM Central & Pacific) and The Young and the Restless moving to 4 PM Eastern/3 PM Central & Pacific time beginning December 1, 1975 on CBS.
b4 WTHI premiered, LoL was a 25m show..WTHI was 25m for its entire (short) run..when Y&R premiered (on March 26, 1973), LoL was again cut back to 25m..SFT, as far as i know, SFT was never reduced in time..strange, though, remembering a TV Guide listing that briefly did place the CBS mid-day news after SFT (and only on one of three listed affiliates) - but that was a typo..LOL remained a 25m show until it moved to 4 p.m. (ET) in April 1979...
partly, August '73 was about Eunice Martin being discovered alive and Carl Devlin being revealed as the one who tried to kill Eunice (professional jealousy?) but killed Marian thinking it was Eunice....
I remember this storyline too. I was upset when I thought Eunice had died. I was also upset 3 years later when Eunice was killed off by an insane Jennifer.
i once had scenes around this time when Carl Devlin found out that Eunice was still alive..all i managed to save was music and these themes (over the years a lot got lost...UGH!!)
IThat is really too bad. I have only read about the Karl/Eunice/Marian storyline. I would have loved to have listened to scenes from 73. Thanks for posting the material from 76 and 77. I loved Search in the 70's.
the period of time when Joanne suffered from hysterical blindness i remember being cause by her not admitting that she no longer loved Sam Reynolds, and had fallin in love with Tony Vincente..what i couldn't give to see or hear as much of the climax of that story..if you remember, Susan Sarandon was on SFT at the time when boyfriend George was forced to shoot Sam; then Joanne trying to find her way and falling over a minor cliff while still blind... whatever storylines i recorded, i was always sporatic - mostly due to still being in school at given times, then periods of employment..i can say that better than 95% of what i had between the years of 1973 and 1977 got lost due to the numerous times i moved years later...
That is really unfortunate but I'm grateful for what you still have. Thanks for sharing.I'd love to listen to anything else you might have from Search.
i noticed that difference, too: Dwight Weist, as far as i know, never used the expression 'sponsored by'..and i don't think Dan McCullough on ATWT ever used those words, either: it was usually 'brought to you today by'...and, of course, over at GL, Alan Bernds always said 'presented by'...
@daniel anderson i'm a little confused about the ''in color'' part..i've heard openings from 1968 where BW says and now, in color'' with the opening; then with the sponsor tag..did the NBC peacock precede the opening to AW?..if it did, then we got the ''in color'' part three times!..it seems, back in those days, being told 'in color' so much was meant to nag us into buying color sets - ''if you had a color television.....''....
The theme songs and bumpers had to be just as important as the show. I wish daytime soaps were still like that. Beautiful music and real storylines.

Danny Hill at least the kids nowadays can spell XELJANZ!!
I would watch it too on days that I was home sick from school. Although I hated being sick, being able to watch Search made it more bearable. 🙂
The music for the mid-show bumpers was called 'Interchange,' a variation of Search's original theme. It was so gorgeous.
No one does this like you, Danny, thank you

The video of Tony's Death is on the Mary Stuart channel.

I really miss the old soap operas wish they could bring them back.
Duncan Hines Brownie Mix--my sisters and I would eat the liquid chocolate flavor packet before our mother could mix it in with the brownie mix. The brownies did not turn out too well.
That was definitely Dan McCullough announcing during the opening and at mid break but sounded like Dwight Weist during the close.
it was....
Wasn't the only time Dan did fill in work for another soap.... In 1971, he substituted for Bill Wolff as the announcer on Another World.
My God... they really improved the opening/closing /bumper music by next year... this almost sounds like what you would hear from soap operas in the 1950s.
Ah, when ads were for food, makeup, pet food, cleaning products, instead of endless prescription drug commercials which get muted.

@@richardlittle1663in the Midwest Y&R originally aired at 12pm EST for a half n hour and eventually to 12:30pm for an hour.
Does anyone out there remember what was the SFT storyline in Aug-'73?
I don't.
But would love to hear any remininces.

Do you have the full episode? I would love to hear/see it if you do. Thanks for posting these.

Was there other material from Search that you lost? If so from what storylines?

1:49 This is CBS
Too bad there wasn’t a credits roll.
Sorry but the show shouldnt end with the show's intro.
Back and white in 73 ?
No...Just a photo of the Search For Tomorrow logo,Color came 1967
They still seem to have the old organ music though.
I didn't know that he said was sponsored by during the second half of search for tomorrow .
i noticed that difference, too: Dwight Weist, as far as i know, never used the expression 'sponsored by'..and i don't think Dan McCullough on ATWT ever used those words, either: it was usually 'brought to you today by'...and, of course, over at GL, Alan Bernds always said 'presented by'...
Dwight Weist never used the term ''sponsored'' - nor do I recall Dan McCullough using that expression..curious why DM would that one time...
