I've got a bunch of stories of these fools building houses for these women here in Thailand and they get throwin out. They're not even bar girls. It's the older generation. The guys younger than me would never get married or bring them back to their home countries. You bring the Phillipinas back too and half of them run off. They were not even bar girls either. There's an old saying, "If it flies, floats or F'ks you're better off renting" . Don't marry western waaahmen either. They're toxic and end up divorce raping you.

I couldn't see myself living in Thailand at the time, I worked in IT Infrastructure and nobody would be able to employ me, I didn't have lots of money to start a business. In the end she got a job in an English school in Bangkok and was cheating on me so there it ended.

I was a Family Lawyer for 30 years. I had a client come in asking me to Draft a Pre Nuptial Agreement, he was planning to marry a Thai Bar Girl. This man was in his 50s, he had never married, he was very, very, very, wealthy. I gave him both barrels, he explained the situation. I then proposed a radical restructuring of his business and assets, luckily he was the co-owner of his business with his brother, so I was able to re-structure very creatively. I also drew up the Pre Nup. She took the Agreement to an Independent lawyer and signed it, they married, she got pregnant within 3 months. Fast forward a few years, his son plays with my grandson, they are often visitors in my home, they even come to stay at our weekender. The lady is a wonderful woman, a great wife from what I can observe and he is ecstatic. His brother loves her, his brothers wife and kids love her. They visit Thailand regularly. I do stress, she is a great woman.

A "regular" Latin America woman missed her family, the food and her neighbors. Hated the weather and was depressed by the lack of sunlight. Not to mention learning a new language from people she finds very cold.

All the best to both of you and I would not mind a few more interviews with Paul, as 'fallangs' should listen to him (I know they don't, as they always tend to think my girl is different, bla, bla, bla, but actualle the new arrivals have no understanding how these girls grow up or no clue regarding their educated system or about Buddhism, most tourists have no understanding of Thailand or Asia it is a very different way of thinking and living - I not blame, how should a foreigner know all these issues if just arrived there. Not a fan of the instant rushing to judgement of 'bar girls'. Far too many people that don't pause for just a moment to consider that they're all people first and foremost. Yes, there are some who are totally money focused, but the same can be said in many areas and sub cultures.

@@SeanHendyas with anything else. If you heard someone was a hitman would you have preconceived notions about that person? What about a bank robber? What about an alcoholic? What about a monk? If it has 99% of a change to happen because 99% of the time it happens with said person with said background… it’s safe to assume you won’t be the 1% that lives happily ever after with a fully tatted, drinks every night, 35 year old with 3 kids in buriram living with auntie, and has had 27 guys in her this week alone… we all judge. That’s what makes us human and intelligent is being able to spot danger ahead. You ever met a bar girl in Pattaya? How about a 35+ year old bar girl been doing it since she was 16? They develop a brain and system of life that is immune to things a girl that’s 25 and had one bf and grew up in the you try that just graduated from college. It is what it is. @@portlandGTR Interesting comparison, but with respect, not really comparable or relevant. Let me explain. Of course there are seasoned pros that have been in the game a long time, and it is far too easy to throw all in the same stereotype. They're also quite easy to spot.
What is interesting is that if you (not you personally of course), the proverbial you, walk around with your eyes open and are observant, as well as being able to judge people well, you will know that there are a lot of such women, who are not there for a career as a bar girl. The turnover is very high. Many don't last long. One of the biggest take aways is a comparison of the industry with that which exists in the west. You would almost never hear of someone in the industry dating someone they 'met at work', let alone marrying them and starting a family, yet in Thailand, for many, that is their end goal, and it is a path that is well established.
I think that is my main point, is that people from the west, often bring their own preconceived ideas with them, based on what they know from home, without understanding that the culture in Thailand is very different indeed.
I've heard many a sob story of men that have been completely taken in, and taken advantage of, even saw a fellow tourist, now a friend of more than 14 years, absolutely fall for the girl he met, but, and maybe it is just me, I've had a very interesting life, and a very interesting career path, dealing with people from all walks of life in a myriad of circumstances, but people open up to me. I've had detailed conversations with many, telling me that they've been married before, some that have a kid back home, others, for whom this is (at that time) genuinely their first season. I know what you're thinking, but seeing how the bar manager was coaching the newbies, confirmed who was new, who was experienced etc. I did actually, on my last stay, take the manager out a few times, and stay at her place, I genuinely got the inside scoop of a lot of things.
To close, you are right, in your example, the fully tatted, drinks every night, is seasoned. Being able to afford loads of tattoos, the money has to come from somewhere, and we know where. Drinks every night, 35 yrs old, loads of tattoos, those are 3 red flags straight away. Avoid at all costs.

To provide a different example with similar outcomes:
Not that long ago, ok, who am I kidding, it's got to be at least 15-20 years ago, when we still had a sizeable Army presence in Germany, there were all kinds of problems with soldiers and marriages.
Typically, many young soldiers, would be in their Regiment or Unit, living in the Block, and there were 2 scenarios that were quite common:
    1) young soldier had a girl back home, and at some point when home on leave, pops the question, and gets married, one of the consequences of which (that could be motivations rather than consequence) is that he gets to leave the block, and move into an apartment or house, provided by the Army. More freedom, more privacy. The downside, is that 19 year old Tracy from Newcastle, had barely been out of the country before this, in fact she had to get a passport in order to follow her new husband, and now she is in a country completely alien and unfamiliar to her, she doesn't speak the language, doesn't know anyone, and the food is different. Sound familiar?
    2) young soldier starts to see a young fraulein, locally, that he decides is the one, pops the question and gets married. The same thing happens, he moves out of the block into apartment/house, and all is peachy, he even has a live in interpreter now, that speaks the language, and knows the culture, and all is well. Until..... his posting ends and he gets posted, or the Regiment relocate, and now they are in Scotland, or Catterick, or Aldershot, and now, young fraulein, is in a country that is unfamiliar to her, she doesn't know anyone, the food is different, she can't buy any of the things she used to, there's less money to go round (there was an extra allowance paid to soldiers serving in Germany and it added up), the culture is strange, and she doesn't know as much of the language as she thought she did.....
Like many things in life, if you go running headlong into something without considering the consequences or changes you're going to have to make, then your odds of being happy or it lasting, rapidly decrease.
It also helps, for the men at least, to think with the big head and not the little head.

They use the bill to show on their socials to their friends to show how their life is better than the other, show off only. Also to mention, if relationship goes bad, i heard many girls, wanted desperately to go Switzerland, and then came back in 3 months, even rejecting gifts, dont like the weather, food, alone, miss 7/11, family, friends...when they back to Thailand, guess what they gonna end up doing? back to freelancers. Intelligent and wise man. Nice to hear that there are always 2 sides to the story. Some TH-camrs just tell the awful Thai Girl Stories when there are so many awful Western Men who come over here, for example, lie about loving them and knock them up and then abandon their responsibility. Next thing you know the Khun Yai is raising her child and the Thai Girl has to go work in the city and send the money back to the Isaan Village. And many end up in the bars. What can you expect her to do?

In the long run it's a very silly move to marry a bar girl. Been going there for 35 years. It's almost guaranteed to end badly. Likely once they're eligible to stay in the foreign country permanently they'll divorce, when they see greener pastures. A big part of being a successful bar girl is being able to deceive the customer. And it'll be very costly, as most aren't isually qualified to do anything else for work.
