I loved the majestic, mystic and sentimental music in this! Used to watch it over and over again on the TV back in the day.. Got my first satellite TV system in 1992, being 10 years old it was such an amazing time to be able to watch all these channels.. I dearly miss those magical days, there's nothing at all like this anymore.. Digital tv and digital equipment doesn't have the same "soul" and feel. Greetings from Sweden.
@LUNARIA project I completely agree with you my friend. My uncle was an electrical engineer and when he moved house in 1993 he gifted my parents with his Sky TV reciever and dish, which he installed for us one weekend. I was eleven years old at the time, and sat for an hour watching him and my Dad tune in the box, seeing all these bizarre scrambled channels lol Finally they inserted the card and as if by magic I suddenly had access to WWF, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Eurosport, MTV, The Discovery Channel etc etc. Was better than Christmas!! I now use Sky Digital HD4K and despite the superior signal, sound and picture quality, I find scrolling through the hundreds of channels in order to locate a decent programme or movie a laborious and frustrating chore.
I also miss this and the time with "Sverigeparabol" tv3, tv4, kanal 5, tv6 and Z-Tv free to air.... On Astra other European channels fta. Today mostly only some German and Ukranian channels transmit fta.
I used to like MTV Europe as it played all the European chart hits rather than just the UK charts; found loads of good songs that way such as Peacock Palace 'Heatwave'.
Memories of walking around on my parents' flat roof outside my bedroom window, aligning my 65cm oval dish on whatever was up there. This video is nostalgia inducing. I should have been outside socializing, probably 😂
I used to watch this when they first launched astra 1d. It played on a loop and I was also fascinated by the satellites. It must have been around 1995. Ah the memory's. They were the days.
As a kid I was always fascinated by satellite TV and bowled over by the idea every time a new Astra bird went up a block of new English channels would launch.
It's so nice and heartwarming to see we all had the exact same experience: we watched this endlessly as a child, were fascinated by the technology and science involved and absolutely adored the music used. And we all miss those days from the late eighties/early nineties when the satellite technology was almost magical and mystical. I have no idea who produced these majestic Astra promotional videos, but they did an outstanding job for this.
I remember this being shown on loop on what was meant to be the Warner Channel, which failed to launch in Nov '96. Even now its a very interesting short film. When I hear the Romeo and Juliet music, I don't think of The Apprentice - I think of Astra!
My dad got sky tv in 1992 and it was only like £20 a month for everything. We had a Panasonic analogue receiver . It blew up and had to be replaced under warranty . I remember when my folks went on holiday and I moved the dish alignment looking for hotbird satellite and certain German late night channels. I was only 14 , I found what I was looking for !!! 😂
I thought this was amazing when I first watched it as a kid. Parents had an analogue Grundig satellite receiver. Fascinated thinking how it all worked.
I remember this. It was a channel that transmitted this information on loop. It was great having satellite TV. Always switching from sky to eutelsat at 19.2°east for MTV. Im English but also German raised so i never had a problem watching the German channels.
As if the footage itself wasn't already interesting enough, some *brilliant* mind decided to put _this_ music under it. It's the greatest satellite tv promo ever made, by far.
Looking at the date stamp on the video at the beginning I’ve stumbled upon this video clip 30 years exactly since it was captured. I remember when there was nothing else on the tv as a teenager I’d put this on!
I had an 80cm satellite dish equipped Nokia Astra Satellite receiver, and I got near 100% good sparklie free pictures with hiss free Wegener Panda 🐼 1 stereo sound. In Northern England where I lived, the 80cm dish gave better results over 60cm dishes as some of the signals on the European channels were slightly weaker in strength. The pictures only suffered in the heaviest rain snow hail or sleet but apart from that, the pics and sound were mostly good the majority of the time.
unfortunately no, I've managed to hear it online somewhere, I also think that the whole album is rare by itself, but hey, you never know, google is your friend :)

Whenever I get a bit low I turn this on and it reminds me of better times.

simon says Me too I used to watch this again and again when they played it on loop
Same here. Strangely enough this is engrained in my childhood.
Haha me too used to watch this incessantly when I was 11. I found it quite fascinating
Same here, strange that I have such strong memories of this.
I remember this about 1993
As a kid I was always fascinated by satellite TV and bowled over by the idea every time a new Astra bird went up a block of new English channels would launch.
This was on Channel 36 on our box. I used to know it word for word. The music is superb.

Yes - I even memorized the intire spanish version at age 12 :P
My parents had Sky Television and this would come on regularly. Happy memories.
Yesssss, even more nostalgic than Doug Funny and Need for Speed III. Wow, way more.

Tuttii Frutti😂 My brother got caught watching it when my parents got home early one Friday night.
I thought this was amazing when I first watched it as a kid. Parents had an analogue Grundig satellite receiver. Fascinated thinking how it all worked.
Man, they really knew how to make a promo back in those days...
I can't believe how nice their HQ offices loked
This would loop over & over on one of the higher channel numbers in English, German, French and Spanish as I recall
I remember this. It was a channel that transmitted this information on loop.

Memory unlocked 😂 I saw this when I was 8 or 9 when hunting through the high-numbered channels on my parent's old analogue Sky box back in the 90s
I used to 5o watch this over and over again as i was fascinated bby the science and technology of sattilite tv
Nice video i watch this promo when i was around 17 years old. This was the good old analogue period in that time. Thank you for uploading :-)
My childhood! Right Here!!
This is my childhood
Thank youuuu! 💖
It's still in my memory, I was 18 👍
Must of been around 5 years old and was mesmerized by the Astra channel on the old Sky box
I used to watch this in 1995 when we first got Sky, the memories. Was so fascinated by how satellite TV worked.

Used to love the Astra video. Very interesting and seemed so high tech and futuristic.
Che ricordi stupendi alla ricerca di nuovi canali.
I remember recording this in 1997 on to VHS, but it was the updated version done in 1996.
I listened to all of Fugle by Jørgen Olsen. Nice song 😊😊

Thanks! Watching in 2019.... very informative!
Brings back so many memories but i do have to ask why is a family watching IT that the last movie id be watching and letting kids watch lol
It will all end soon as streaming takes over. RIP satellite distribution
I think it will still remain in at least 15 years, so long there is linear tv channels.
Thanks for this upload
Fun to show the old Dutch loto's of the Radio & Tv channels in The Netherlands which where transported by Astra
The irony is at that time, Sky started to blow off most of its pan-euro audience for it to be a UK exclusive pay satellite tv service
So much years passed
I remember the original Astra promo that was still being shown in 1991. When did this version take over?
Yes, the earlier one was from the Baikonur cosmodrome!
I wonder if the Squarial at @1:45 was a nod to to BSB/Marcopolo
I would like to be paid to watch 20 TV channels at once for 8 hours a day
I wish I could find out the name of the music starting at 5:27
Armand Frydman - Dancing Star 😁

Does anyone know the name of the music that starts at 7:43? I've heard it before in other programmes.
It's called Anitria's dance and it's from the Peer Gynt suite by Greig.
it's been some time since you've asked this, but it's Paul Shaw & David Rogers - Lost in Space
Dejan Cah Thanks. I don't suppose you know where I can download it?
unfortunately no, I've managed to hear it online somewhere, I also think that the whole album is rare by itself, but hey, you never know, google is your friend :)
Dejan Cah Do you know the title of the other soundtracks ?
Back in ye days of Sky Analogue
Somehow this is fascinating me to and I don't know why.

Prokofief - Dance of the Knights
Does anyone know the music at 5:28?
