No, the vehicles do not have to do a U-turn on board. On the Danish side, the ships load and discharge via a door (doors) at the bow. So cars, trucks and buses are stowed in the direction the ship sails on northbound voyages, and they are parked facing the ships stern on southbound voyages. There are however some roro ferries that only load and unload via the stern, so that vehicles need to do a 180. Typically this is only done on longer voyages where the extra time this takes does nor matter that much.
