@@virael3801i understand that it needs a good rapping performance. But Hypothetically speaking if madlib produces an album, and the rapping performance isnt good, he could just release an instrumental album and it still would be very good, and that's fact.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT I always thought the beginning of Real sounded like some shit Danny Brown would spit on. I never knew Danny sampled the same shit on When It Rain
I always thought it was one sample. That’s one of Madlib’s best qualities. He doesn’t always chop a sample up to pieces, but he can layer things to make it sound so cohesive that you’d never know it was multiple samples. Love it.
@@PleaseSayTheGORGEOUS no they are two different samples, 1st one being "I Care For You" by The Ovations and the 2nd being "Wish You Were Mine" by The Manhattans. Referenced at the 11 minute mark in the video

I can’t believe the album is 10 years + old and I dug out my vinyl copy and it aged like fine wine ! The beats still sound classic the lyrics are still relevant and top notch! The vinyl mastering is great too real nice warm sound !!!
I auto subscribed within seconds of this video, haven't seen all of your material but I find it hard to believe that you will put together another video of artists sampling like this! Very well blended together & you captured ALL the samples, not just the beats but repeated lines too! A1 👌
If anyone is wondering the sample of the guy talking on the intro track look up “black people express their rage in the 60s” im pretty sure he sample like 3 people in that vid
I heard he made this all on the ipad, but I still don't get how he EQ'd/processed the samples in such a way where its frequencies have changes so much from the original? This is always my struggle when sampling, don't tell me it's just compression and EQ there's something more happening here
You can emulate the sounds different of samplers using different apps with the iPad Edit: and also the added bonus of the fact that he’s still sampling off vinyl
and I found that sample like a month ago thinking I was so original but then I finally listen to this project while doing homework and I yell "FUCK! he did it fucking 7 years before me"
i feel like having madlib as your producer is just a cheat code to making a classic album
Fax
He's got some duds don't forget it
It's not a "cheat code" because a Madlib produced album *needs* a masterclass rapping performance, which Gibbs delivered.
@@virael3801i understand that it needs a good rapping performance. But Hypothetically speaking if madlib produces an album, and the rapping performance isnt good, he could just release an instrumental album and it still would be very good, and that's fact.
The thuggin sample is honestly something else
honestly, madlib absolutely killed that sample and created heaven out of it. truly remarkable
theres so much more impressive samples on this album that get overshadowed by ignorant ppl that dickride thuggin
Check out brains flew by, westside gunn
So many goat samples on one album
That’s what happens when you combine two goats 🤷🏽♂️

Madlib is the God of samples !!
Swear him and Kanye is the best
kingdaniel4195 dilla too
you gotta have dilla in your list homie, he took sampling to another level along w madlib that almost nobody can duplicate still
Hi Tek, El P, DJ Premier, Alchemist, Dr. Dre
Don't forget Q tip
Avalanches
Madlib is from an alternate dimension where everything is dope. It’s just normal to him but the rest of us gape in awe.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT I always thought the beginning of Real sounded like some shit Danny Brown would spit on. I never knew Danny sampled the same shit on When It Rain
Well technically Paul White sampled it.
@@Smrda1312 technically danny brown did cause he paid for it
it's crazy, you can still hear madlib adding hints of J Dilla to his production through samples and such. This is a classic. Rest easy, Dilla.
How
Michael White why bruh?
Michael White uno and deeper sounds like it used dilla inspired drums
that goblin sample Jesus
Paul White used this sample 7:14 in When It Rains (With Danny Brown) aswell, dope af
I knew I heard it somewhere
Mikael Gordani Danny's flip was better though 😬
Uri Oberlander yea in my opinion it was
atrocity is fuckin great
I had no fucking idea til watching this holy shit
i love that shame sample best song on the album for me
Super overlooked album I love Madlib
Nah. Piñata isn't as overlooked as you think.
The underground gives it plenty of love imo
The two samples for Knicks mesh so nicely
I always thought it was one sample. That’s one of Madlib’s best qualities. He doesn’t always chop a sample up to pieces, but he can layer things to make it sound so cohesive that you’d never know it was multiple samples. Love it.

Always high quality videos!! This is hard work and dedication. S/o Bandstand for your amazing content!
I really appreciate the time you put into this. I been trying to figure out the samples to this album for years
so many memories to this album, so sick to see it broken down like this.
S/O to Bandstand for his mixing and editing on this video 💯💯
Knicks is my favorite from the album.
Some of the best beats of all time
hip hop's gotten a lot of mileage out of that Delia Derbyshire song
WHEN IT RAIN WHEN IT POUR GETCHA ASS ON THE FLOOR

Damnn it's ingenious the way he put all these together Madlib the God on God
These beats are made by one if the best producers ever, Madlib. You better toon in
I was waiting for this
GOD that Gaturs sample made me think of that funk drum break phase I had in ninth grade.
Absolutely one of my favorite videos to watch. Never gets old 🙌🏾
The lyrics of this album is proof to my why Freddie is the goat and the samples are proof that madlib is the goat of producing

You’re forgetting the engineering team. That’s all that’s going on 🤝
Isnt that just because of the pace shifting? You know he shortened the samples so they sound pitched up
Filters my boy.
You can emulate the sounds different of samplers using different apps with the iPad
Edit: and also the added bonus of the fact that he’s still sampling off vinyl
im pretty sure this was made mostly on mpc, Bandana was the one fully produced on an ipad
madlib transposed the sample on the 2nd beat in real to perfection
Never knew I needed this so much. lol
