I had 4 door one in the 90s at uni. Took like 3 hours to change the head gasket. Charmingly simple- had very nimble handling and amazing brakes. Rust was ongoing...
My Dad had one of these. We lived up north and oh boy, it turned into a rust bucket. Not so good in salty conditions, and though it was a 5 speed, it was extremely slow to accelerate. I felt at times as a kid we were holding up traffic. Yet now after all these years, I strangely have a bit of nostalgia for the features and simplicity of this quirky looking coupe.
I raced one of these at Chowchilla Speedway in the early 2000’s. It was a Toyota Corolla SR5. The hemi 4 cylinder made great horsepower when properly built. Also came with a stock 4.10 rear end gear which helped a lot

My parents bought me one as my first car in high school. ❤
The 1979 Corolla had the prettiest grille of any car ever to me.

My 1st car at 17 , 4 door yellow 5 speed . Reliable , good on gas . Complaints - rear wheel drive and rusted in Pittsburgh area .
A charming old car, I also have a 1979 Corolla Ke 30❤❤❤❤
One of my favorite generation besides the 4th (1979-1983) which I currently own. I see a hand few of them when I visit home in Puerto Rico.
The Custom had a 1200cc engine with 5 speed in all states, California got the 1.6 from the Deluxe, not available on Custom in other states.
