could I use one of those stationary engines to hook to a generator to supply my house with electricity? and where do you get parts to fix one of these old stationary engines?

those 2 guys would have saved alot of time if they would used a tractor 2 start that engine belt start w a tractor would be alot easier sooner or later it's got 2 go and if U were still using that old hay press 2 today U wouldn't get very hay baled OMG 1O 12 2O22

I believe the reason for rotating the engine backwards is so the engine will kick back, this kick back will cause sudden reverse rotation, (In the correct direction of rotation) to help the rotating mass overcome the cylinder compression and aid start up. Anyone else want to comment is this correct?

You turn it back as far as you can to get speed up to get over compression

@@jasonpalmer8375 Wish it was caught on camera. Looked like they couldn't get it past the compression stroke. After watching my Dad pull and kick the flywheel on his Rumley Oil Pull until he gave out, a farmer/mechanic of local renowned, Mr. Vernon Griffin primed the cylinders, opened the compression release then gently pull the flywheels to TDC. The impulse magneto "snapped", the first cylinder lit and pulled the flywheel out of his hand as it started. They are both gone as is the Oilpull but I'll never forget that lesson.

You are basically right Jim. It appears to me that the engine was over fuelled, that is flooded, judging by the excess vapour released. A lamp start Austral in good condition, heated and primed properly will always start at the first attempt.
