“Gly”: Good morning everyone! I’d like to share a few things about this episode. Firstly, the next time we Schnozzolate I’ll remember to turn off my headlamp so there isn’t a glare in the lens of the Torpedo Cam. Secondly, the topside temperature was 102 that day and despite my attempts to stay well hydrated I was quite overheated 🥵 and that’s the reason for all the heavy breathing. Not sure if this makes sense to the crazy guys following this channel that know more about mining than me but I keep coming back to this channel because of my interest in geology. When I see the amount of labour involved in all the addicts drifts and board "wood" labor laying out the ore chutes and exploratory shafts and sinks to lower levels I am always thinking how much ore was pressed in this mine per day and what the amount of profit per labour man hours were seen per ton of ore pressed each day.

EXCEPTIONAL exploration! Gly, your shows are consistently so good, I can't pull myself to even consider other peoples explorations any more. A couple notes: 1... I wonder if Tom Swift went to Vietnam, or simply vented what other people said about the war. Maybe if he'd gone over and heard the sound of a shot fired in anger.... (366th ASD, DakTo, Vietnam, 1968-69).... he might have a different outlook on life. 2... I never heard you comment on air movement today. On that winze, if you were considering it linking to other mines in the area, wouldn't you have expected to find airflow? 3... Your comment about forgetting that other drift. That's a prime sign of heat exhaustion and failure to stay hydrated. It's like toxic gas... a silent killer. Stay hydrated, carry and eat a few nutrition type bars, and take rest breaks. 4... You look 'unbalanced' when you're on the Schnoz lines. It looks like your center-of-mass is co-located with the caribiner connecting you to that crank mechanism (don't know what you call it). It looks like - if the attach point was a bit higher - say mid-chest, you would be better balanced, and possibly easier for you to crank yourself up and down. 5... It looks like you carry a lot of excess stuff on your person. If you're sending a bucket down with the main camera, could you put that excess gear in that, and then attach it to your chest harness when you reach a specific level?
“Gly”: Tom Swift was a character in popular science fiction books first published in 1910. I’m certain it isn’t his real name but he enjoyed the books and that’s why he’s writing it on the walls instead of his real name. It would be nice to have a simple system that can relay a weak signal from the person in the tunnel, to the main shaft and from there to the surface (and the other way around). Just enough to have a green light to say "ok" , a red light to signal problems and a yellow light to ask questions. I know that voice signals would be reduced to a bunch of crackling sounds, but maybe with simple "on/off" type of messages, it can be done! Kinda like a morse code... rudimental but useful
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces The radiation pattern on those antennas is shaped like a donut, if you hold it upright while transmitting the energy spreads out at right angles to the shaft. Hold it out over the shaft horizontally, the same thing needs to happen on the surface. Experiment with this the next time you go down, am sure it makes a big difference! www.onallbands.com/wire-antennas-beyond-the-dipole/
Gly motocross cyclist’s have armored thigh shields they are light in weight, and don’t get in the way. They would protect you from just the sort impact you experienced here.

Outstanding Gentleman, thank you for your hard work. That was some mine there, poor Mr. Swift, a draft dodger and a dope head, probably dead by now. There would half to be a lot of gold there to get me in a mine, I'm way too lazy to do all that work! 😅 I really like how your doing this, it really is informative. I was in High School when you were born Gyl but you are older than my last wife. Those overalls remind me of my Great Grandfather, he always wore them, when he died I was the one that clean out his house, I remember throwing out a dozen or more of them, all Levi's, he was meticulous about taking care of his clothes, I thought of saving those overalls but they were to big at that time. Here is that weird "tree root" type of mold you found called mycelium. It's the "plant part" of the bacteria/mold colony. It also says in the article mycelium brake down petroleum products such as kerosene, oils, etc. So maybe when they drilled to blast the bacteria later on attached to the rock and petroleum products slowly eating it. Similar to what is happening to the TItanic in the ocean. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mycelium
Another great video! You know what was the coolest part about going down that shaft was the torpedo cam waiting for you ! It looked like a lantern waiting for you!
I was going to ask you, Gly, about Tom Swift, we seem to see his name in a lot of the old mines that you explore, I wonder if it's not an actual name but more like a reference to the Scifi/adventure book series by Edward Stratemeyer from the early to mid 1900s? Might be worth something to investigate or make an episode about this Tom Swift mine explorer. See if this person is still alive today? Just my curiosity.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces it would make sense to be a reference because of how many of these old mines, from the time period of the books, have the name written somewhere, or in multiple places. But isn't there also a mine in Nevada called the Tom Swift mine?
@@neotuber1776 Tom Swift the character was something of a pre-Internet meme, like the Kilroy one. It's pretty easy to find people referencing him during certain periods of history. It's all-but-lost at this point, though.

Hi Gly, I just got home from a Colorado adventure...I have been out that way for over a month. Once I got my prospecting gear and dirty clothes all in the house, I tuned in to see what you have been up (or down) to. My trip included a bull moose, lots of trout, a rattlesnake, gopher snakes, cactus shmutz and some gold and a tornado and hail storm! I also, stayed out of a mine... still alive! : ) Good to see you Brother, smiling, George.
The long string things attached to the rips look like rhizomorphs of honey mushrooms Armillaria sp.. but would not expect to find such a thing in the desert and that deep.
Fun adventure and really cool rigging you got going there with the schnozzolater. I think schnozzolater is the best name, you can even say it to Mr. M and Randy when you go down.. "SCHNOZ YA LATER!"
I water my garden in that kind of heat every morning and evening. lol. I couldn't imagine doing anything more strenuous in that type of heat! Stay hydrated and pay attention to your body. I have had heat exhaustion and it isn't fun at all. All of my playing in the hills is on hold til the weather gets cooler. Cool video!!! :)
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces You remembered to replenish salt too, right? RIGHT?? those little flavor packets from ramen (Maruchan brand if you can get it) work better than anything else, and you can carry a couple in your pocket and use as needed -- if it tastes good, you need it. Guessing they also have some potassium as the restorative effect is better than plain salt. (Had to resurrect my Seattle-born tenant a couple times after she was stupid in the desert sun...) It would be nice to have a simple system that can relay a weak signal from the person in the tunnel, to the main shaft and from there to the surface (and the other way around).
“Gly”: We will be experimenting with a repeater for our radios before venturing down deeper shafts in the future.
This episode has been quite the history experience. Thanks guys for bringing all this goodness to us.
Gly motocross cyclist’s have armored thigh shields they are light in weight, and don’t get in the way. They would protect you from just the sort impact you experienced here.
“Gly”: I will be looking into that but it just might be a bit cumbersome when wearing the harness.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces US Special forces use a thigh shield that is worn with parachute harnesses that might be the one to look at.
@@transmaster Next thing you know, we'll be calling him Sir Gly with his armor on.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces I was looking at the armor and it is the tactical amour you should look at. It is designed to hook into a vest such as you are wearing.
I got to be quick the guys on top - hold on I got to take a break..... LOL
If you’re testing for air quality, you can just call it the schnoz
The schnozz’s schnoz
Outstanding morning addition.. 👍👍👍
Wish I had them now. Well until next week I'll see you then and tell Mr. M I really like his channel. Old Kenny 👍👍👍👍👍❤🇺🇸
“Gly”: Thanks Kenny!
Kenny Sherrill * Mr. Sherrill, thank you sir, for your service to this country. My father was a marine, my husband retired army. May God Bless and protect you and your family, in the name of Jesus 😊
Very cool! Loved this and cant wait for the next one!
“Gly”: Cool! Thanks for the info and the great comment. Looks like Mycelium comes in many forms and not just the white one in the pictures.
Another great video! You know what was the coolest part about going down that shaft was the torpedo cam waiting for you ! It looked like a lantern waiting for you!
“Gly”: Yes, I really liked that effect. Next time though I’ll remember to turn off my headlamp so there isn’t so much glare.
“Gly”: I believe it’s just a reference to the Tom Swift in books.
Yes, I'm very interested in that name also. That name is in far too many mines to be just a coincidence.
I believe it was Taylor Swifts Grandpa
Wonderful video guys. Stay safe. Loves ya.
The next morning, a strange fungus covered Gly's body.
“Gly”: I’ve seen that Twilight Zone episode. 👍
Bullseye cam!🎯 it caught that 2x4 dartboard action! Need to get some football thigh pads ouch! Stay safe and heads up. 🙄👷🏻👳🏻🤕😳
You have old Bob, better Bob, and the hanging camera could be the plumb Bob!🤣
“Gly”: Thank you! I’ve added your idea for a name to the list and we’ll be having a vote on it soon. 👍
Call it the schnozelclops it's a one eyed monster with a big nose
Or just call it the torpedo cam lol
Gly and Mr M you guys are awesome i love watching your adventures stay safe and God Bless !!! ...
How about “The Cyclops” for the camera ? Another great blog Guy, thanks for all your hard work.
“Gly”: I like it! I’ll add it to my list.
Totally awesome!
Well done Gly, Mr. M , and Randy
😎👍
“Gly”: Thank you!
Hey Gly, how long do the guy's up topside leave it before getting itchy about your welfare ? Fantastic content as ever, essential Saturday evening viewing for me in the UK.
“Gly”: 6 hours is the somewhat agreed upon number but we have alternate methods of communication if coms fail.
Texas here... Great adventure.. your driving home after all that time spent in tunnels. But i guess being up top in sun is harder on a person. Thanks to both ..Great team work
Those ladders going down the winz weren’t safe: the rungs were just nailed onto the sides.
“Gly”: Yes, I saw that. Kind of sketchy.
You deserve a Netflix show.
You shud be wearing a face mask doing that
Hi Gly, I just got home from a Colorado adventure...I have been out that way for over a month.
The long string things attached to the rips look like rhizomorphs of honey mushrooms Armillaria
sp.. but would not expect to find such a thing in the desert and that deep.
“Gly”: Interesting, thanks for the info!
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces google pictures rhizomorphs of honey mushrooms Armillaria sp
Fun adventure and really cool rigging you got going there with the schnozzolater. I think schnozzolater is the best name, you can even say it to Mr. M and Randy when you go down.. "SCHNOZ YA LATER!"
“Gly”: Hey! You just gave me a great idea on how to end my Schnozzolator episodes. 👍
The All Seeing Eye 2000. Amazing what these camera's can do now. Love your show guys. Keep up the great work!
“Gly”: I drank so much water that day I thought I’d turn into a fish.
(Had to resurrect my Seattle-born tenant a couple times after she was stupid in the desert sun...)
BTW if all else fails, lick the salt off your hands and arms. (If it tastes good, you need salt.) Water alone just doesn't cut it when your real problem is salt depletion.
@@Reziac And get horrible leg cramps from depleted potassium and water.
@@lotharschiese8559 Yeah, along with headache and nausea and a loss of coherence, and nasty blood pressure spikes. (That being mostly regulated by potassium.) Water is actually not absorbed well if you're salt-depleted, and then you drink and drink and never stop being thirsty.
Hey Gly, my mother used to work for Union Carbide back in the day. I am not sure what she did but it was secretarial down in Puerto Rico.
I love seeing those logos and to hear that name. Its the only place and it brings back so many memories.
God Bless and be very safe out there!
Hi 👋friend another great video thanks again from Scotland
So glad to see the intro is back!
11:08 oof, I flinched at that.
Best videos ever!! 👏🏾
You guys should go to Cerro Gordo
“Gly”: If were invited we’ll go.
Been waiting... shessh .. seems like forever... new spooky music 🎶 for the intro .. ok this is a crazy mine with All these exploratory stopes! Way Cool Gly! F*** ouch !! A real Randy moment... 💯 Snooz on Maynard G Krebs...
“Gly”: No, same intro music. Ambient music for some of the shaft footage, thought it would be fun.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces its new music.. I'm still watching you at the bottom of the shaft in 767
One hell of a exploration down there 👇 really enjoyed 👌
