Young man in the red hat... very well spoken and informed. I love to see young black men who are aware of their surroundings and are able to make sense of the chaos. Knowledge is power.

I'm not even going to get into this. Because what he thinks and you also does not change anything except what you want to believe because it makes you feel better. Still does not fix the problem. its the never ending story.

Point of the fact is, 20% of what he said was correct. Just because there in some important facts here and there doesn't mean shit. What he has said and how he "thinks" he needs to approach it are 2 diff things. If he knew SO much, why is he still in the hood with his bro's? He reminds me of a black Charles Mansion. Spits out interesting lines but cant do shit to actually make a difference in his life or others.
P.S. Dont be a grammar Nazi douche!

There was a reason why you defended him verbally, but, deep down, its subliminal. If it didnt matter to you, you would not have responded, so, it matters for a reason. I could only image the reason, which in this case is negated by his position. Cut and dry for YOU, but, for the open minded, quite clear.
      Cary on......

Education is the key to getting out but most don't want to put the work in and other circumstances compound that pursuit. One more problem is that everybody wants immediate gratification instead of working towards a goal to move up and out of these conditions.

Nah man. It’s way deeper than that. It’s a mentality. When you’re told over and over again you can’t do something and you can only do something else, and the only life you’ll ever live is what you see around you, what’s the likelihood you’re gonna become anything else than what they expect? That’s not an excuse that’s reality. What’s gratifying about getting shot at? That ain’t fun. It’s what’s known. What we need is more people telling and showing a better way.

im a 35 year old black man that has came from nothing and was able to turn that into something. I think life is all about Choices,Sacrifice and having a mind set on the Future at all times. Life is not always peaches and cream but you have to learn to take the good with the bad and when life hands you lemons make that into lemonade stay focused and im sure your life will turn around

Compared to the way in which they live, the 'hood where I grew up is akin to an upper middle class suburb. I lived in projects in Cincinnati Ohio during the '80s and '90s when the crack epidemic was full steam ahead, but over all we didn't have a barrage of murders, robberies or break-ins. I've witnessed and been apart of plenty of fights tho but my overall experience wasn't traumatic. I actually have more goods memories than bad and I have my mom to thank for that, she made sure my siblings and I had access to activities outside the hood.
Every summer was spent alternating between museums, aquariums, zoo, libraries etc. We were exposed to other cultures and experiences beyond the realm of our comfort. Along with other family members they made a concerted effort to expose and impress upon us the realities of life beyond our 5 mile world.

that keeps us safe and helps us evolve. I like your videos because it shows two different worlds, it reminds me of a video I saw on the strip where two guys were fighting and all the people just moved away from them and many of them turned and acted like they didn't even see it. Videos help young kids see that this ghetto life is everything they don't want to be especially when no one else will tell them. Next time do more video on the happy life with so there will be more contrast.

I grew up in S. Florida ---Lauderdale--there is no "real" industry per se in South Florida. The economy is service based. So during recessionary times the effects are far more pronounced. But you develop a certain consciousness and tuffness when yo from the bottom. But if you got "grill piece" and some personality yo can sell alot of Real estate, insrance, and financial scams.

They hustle, have common street knowledge, probably better than some of the guys who work there, and know how to make money especially something from nothing. And they are tough. It's a shame there isn't an outreach or charity who can train and guide theseGuys. They really have the ability to make it.

To further dispel the rumor ...it's actually a comparison of apples to oranges. A fair comparison would be to only compare black males of typical college age (18-24) in college to black males of the same age range in prison. If you do that it is more like 4 to 1. There are FOUR times as many black males in college as in prison.
WHY compare a group of males aged 18-24 (college students) to a group of males aged 16 - 80 (prison inmates) ...unless you have an agenda)

      @dylanbye6065 11 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree. Only issue is sometimes it's hard to tell who really needs help as opposed to who would appreciate your help. Particularly where I live (Eastern Suburbs of Sydney)... Obviously someone who is homeless needs help. But there's heaps of hard working people who take pride in the way they look, like the man in the video, and just from looking at them I'd assume they have a comfortable normal situation but behind all that is a struggle. Never judge a book on its cover, I guess.

I've been to Florida several times but most recently I was there for about 2wks and it was absolutely beautiful..But I was curious about the history of Florida I had no idea how racially diverse the city of Miami is and the huge financial divide is! Its incredible how much prosperity there is among the cuban,Latina, Columbian as opposed to the black community! Its like all the other ethnic groups are doing financially well but areas of the black community is suffering! Other ethnic groups just seem to build and grow there own communities!

All that you say is 110% true brother. But you can expect to rec'v a LOT of hostility for making such a comment. Unfortunately many of the people who NEED to hear such a simple message simply do NOT want to hear it ...because it puts the onus of responsibility right back squarely on their shoulders and they would much rather blame someone else. The part about "missing real belief" is also 110% accurate. It is the mindset that hinders far more than any external factors. I say this as a black man.

Iam glad for your comment, maybe if I would say it openly I might get a punch in the nose, but it wouldnt be the first one ;) I like u said it as a black man, but to me u said it as a person. There is no black, white, yellow man there is only a person or opposite... we all share common problems and mistakes, this is where we need to relate more and find a compassion. The worst what can happen to us is to let someone alone and not taken care of. People have to care, because there is nobody else..

My brother at the end was a bit off the mark. In order for those little girls to have positive men to gravitate towards in maturity there should be little boys raised by real men also. Father is equally important to both genders positive growth. I hear where he's coming from but many young knuckle heads "grabbin them toolz" as he said lack a positive Man in their lives. ..my 2cents worth.

I like how older folks who lived some life already spoke about past and how things changed in this neighborhood. Particularly gentleman who said everything got worse in 60s when drugs became so often. Another gentleman at 10:00 said exactly what makes this place bad to live: drugs and uneducated young folks carrying guns. This couldnt be better said as these problems r against job opportunities and businesses to start. These folks r truth not those gold teethed punks in the end of the clip.

My apologies I was half asleep or that's the best excuse I can think of at the moment. To be honest, even though I made the "consensus" comment, I reverted back to the notion that more were in prison. However, that aside this stat isn't praise worthy, at best, it's a dubious honor & if trends predict the future the notion will be made reality.
Not to mention, that was '05 stats. I wonder how '12 stats fared in comparison. I imagine, being a slight misanthrope, that the prison #'s increased.

Belief is everything. And not just as a philosophy but as a tool to get rewarded. Many families and parents r rewarding. Everybody wants to be rewarded and kids has to get that. If these guys parents were doing the right thing and put more attention to them maybe they would not end up here. But sometimes even the best parent cannot help. In the end its all about u and in what belief u stand for but parents give u that platform to start so u can choose. Thats all these folks need to get!

Exactly! Because this problem of so called ghettos is perpetuated and not being really solved there r families doing to kinds what they parents did to them. Those so called gangsters have families and most of them r doing the same mistake their fathers did. No role model no backbone ideology in the family. One father showed in one of these clips is the real hero, saying that his daughter needs to go to school and bring As marks.U can see he wants best for her and he cares. This is what is missing.
