Hey guys, I did remember two things I forgot to cover, my apologies, I was just so excited! Vehicle Passenger Seat: Vehicles can now have passengers in them, so you can have one person driving and another person shooting etc. Medium and Small Electric Poles now can be quick replaced over each other! Let me know if there is anything else major I forgot (hopefully not). :)
yeah, simple. The interactions in the game are either moving objects or combining multiple objects to make a new object. Everything takes place on a flat plane, even with cliffs (which are just walls). everything you can build can be expressed in a single line IF statement. Simple doesn't mean bad you clod.
It's not simple on the backend, the ability to track and process the sheer amount of individual items and things happening is very impressive. They have been able to do things that large developers have failed at horribly in the past. If you think this game is "simple" in terms of its back end then you are sorely mistaken.
There's also two small but important changes: "Robots in the air from personal roboport now count towards logistics requests for that robot type." This means that if you have your personal request set to always have a certain number of construction bots on you, when they leave to make or deconstruct something, your logistic bots will no longer bring you more and fill your inventory with more construction bots than your armor can handle. "Tanks no longer take miniscule amounts of damage from hitting trees." This along with nuclear fuel make driving through large forests with a tank so much better.
as a former c&c player (played red alert 1, tiberian sun, red alert 2, etc), i approve of the cliffs, looks a lot like the cliffs in the early c&c games
Have you tried the AAI mod back in .15? it brings back a lot of that same C&C-type stuff with harvesters and haulers (which can be programmed to actually mine your ores entirely stationairy-miner free) Though I didn't like what it did for my UPS I did keep a lot of the vehicles without the actual automisation simply because it has some really specific vehicles for specific jobs (like a huge cargo space Hauler, a superfast minigun tank stuff like vehicles depots). I hope it gets updated soon to allow me to relive my C&C days now that the cliffs add that C&C flair to factorio xD
Iron was priority one and was generated first on the map. then copper n stuff. Copper and stuff was able to spawn over the allready generated iron patches. Thats why there was more copper than iron every time.
loving the artillery, definitely will make setting up expansions more interesting than just going on tank killing sprees, feel like they should give the biters a long range attack to though or maybe fast fliers or something for rapid counterattacks.
If anyone else didn't know, you can shift-right-click to copy filters and shift-left-click to paste them. Makes setting up new trains easier. From at least 0.15, but I just found out.

Good overview, Xterminator, thanks! FYI, buffer chest contents seem to only be available to construction bots or to logistics bots that are bringing items to the player. Items will not be taken out by logistics bots to go to a requester chest. I could see this being useful for building out solar arrays, for example, to stage your materials at the edges where the next construction will take place.
Ah that's a shame. It would imo be nice if it were available for the logistic bots to other requester chests. Now bot bridges still aren't directly possible. Maybe they should make two types of buffer chests. One which will allow logistic bots to grab from them and one which doesn't.

Surround base with rails. Fill it with nuclear powered trains pulling artillery wagons. Send trains zooming around the base at mach 2. Wagons shoot biter nests. Biters run after train. Train kites biters onto the track. Train behind that one steamrolls the biters.

I still expect rivers, hydroelectric dams, and waterfalls in the next major update. Even tidal power generation for those large oceans that Factorio sometimes generates.
so now it should be possible to build organised (sorted) storages using the buffer chests - replace all yellow chests with the new greens, attach each chest to a specific component, and your robots should do the sorting on their own. Haven't tried yet, but it seems should work

They did, apparently, remove the ability to "blind stamp" blueprints: if you put down a blueprint in 0.16 and only a part of it is in the visible area (player or radar doesn't matter, it just has to be actually visible to you), only this part is actually stamped. The part that lands on invisible ground will *not* be put down. Can't find it in the changes, but it *did* change. Just played a bit of .15 (on Steam for achievements), and I can still put blueprints blind.
The were always an option, just not neccesarily a good one. They might be now though. They would still take crazy amount of space compared to bot-based factories though.
I noticed how you still removed the normal belts when placing the underground belts, but you can also just quick replace those. It's not limited to the belts in between.
The map generation details really are amazing now… except you need trees, you cannot turn them off. Tried to make a destert/sand world, kinda like Mars, totally barren (of course, water at the start :D). But: simple poles, you need them for electricity -> research. Hope Klonan gets (or has already) to update his KS Power (wind generator) :D
I bet That the buffer chest will make self expanding solar setups eaiser just have each roboport cell have one or 2 that have enough for the next cell in each also repair/replacing damaged segments i bet. Also was looking in the docs and found this gem "laboratory-productivity"
Question about the assembler crafting speed setting different requests... does it take into account the level of the assembler? And beacons? (Haven’t had a chance to test yet)

I watched AntiElitz's stream and it was clear that the new resource generation is not good for default options speed runs. Of course speed running isn't the primary audience, but I admit it's the part I have tended to enjoy the most.
Challenge map idea for you and Scarhoof; Max Cliff generation build to rocket, make sure trains are in use as much as possible (on site smelting/crafting and the like)
Nice man, thanks for the updates. One thing. The green logistic chest (buffer chest). What is his priority over the rest of the chests? I mean, normally you have an Active provider as a first priority, than the Storage (Yellow ones) than the passive (red ones), Where does the greens fit in this?

Sorry for late response. But yup, fuel now affects train acceleration now which is really nice. Helps throughput a lot. Tanks are actually super good now. With some rocket fuel, or even solid fuel. Plus they now come with a flamethrower since 0.15 which makes them super fun. AND, in 0.16 they no longer take damage from trees which is nice. As for belts... They are way better now than they were, but unfortunately bots are still superior if you make efficient bot builds. But belt based megabases are definitely viable now!
I think that would be HUGE in PvP... Like, the bomb should have a really big explosion, otherwise the range wouldn't make sense, right? Whoever gets their hands on one first would essentially be the winner, no questions asked. Or if both parties have nukes... Well, it's M.A.D in Factorio.
Oh yeah bots make it easy especially when you set up your first smelting lines...oh wait bots are mid game :) That's why I re-roll maps when I see a lot of forests around me, it's plain tedious. Also wood is low compression(low energy per item) and has bad acceleration so I rather use coal/solid for mid game trains, rocket and nuclear (YEY!) late game. Without Bobs you can't automate wood so it's hard to rely on it as well. If I have to go through setting up coal for my outpost trains anyway why would I bother with wood?

How do you start w/o trees in vanilla? You need them for poles, and those you need for powering a lab to research electricity distribution… or is there a way around that I don't know?
will playing this break current saves? just started a multiplayer last night haha we did 7 straight hours. but if this will break the save then we might as well start over. i actually dont mind. i want artillery!
It technically shouldn't, the new terrain generation should only occur when generating a new map, but the change of recipes will probably cause some small problems.
Lasse Emil It actually is technically available on steam but you have to opt into the beta versions to play it. You can do that by going to the options for Factorio in your steam library. Then the betas tab under options
I think there might be something wrong with your mic setting, this video is about 30-40% lower than any other sound I can play, I can barely hear you with all my volumes topped.
Man I'm sorry. :/ I tested it on my end and didn't have a problem hearing it, and my volume is at like 50%. I will boost for future videos, but apologize for the lower volume on this one.
No biggie, I was in the office with a cheap headset, I could just wait to get back home, but still the difference to other videos was quite noticeable.

IT won't be because the entry barrier for casuals is too high. Factorio is more of a niche game.
youd have a lot of trolls though, at the moment it is mostly populated with genuinely smart people who all want to work together.

That auto shooting arty is great, because you can keep a buffer of no biter bases around your base, as long as you have turrets to keep them out.

Already noticed: dont set trees to rare and start in desert... you almost need a train to get to some trees....

It technically shouldn't, the new terrain generation should only occur when generating a new map, but the change of recipes will probably cause some small problems.

It's some sorta Creative mod, i'm pretty sure.
It's cheat mode. You can enable it with this command: /c game.player.cheat_mode = true
It will disable achievements though, so beware of that.

Lasse Emil It actually is technically available on steam but you have to opt into the beta versions to play it. You can do that by going to the options for Factorio in your steam library. Then the betas tab under options

I think there might be something wrong with your mic setting, this video is about 30-40% lower than any other sound I can play, I can barely hear you with all my volumes topped.
Man I'm sorry. :/ I tested it on my end and didn't have a problem hearing it, and my volume is at like 50%. I will boost for future videos, but apologize for the lower volume on this one.
No biggie, I was in the office with a cheap headset, I could just wait to get back home, but still the difference to other videos was quite noticeable.
