Good teacher! ( I tease😁) Pastor Begg I read that passage a ways back and in the bible when I read, it said none are good but the father in heaven. Just saying.... I love to listen to you on the radio you are a gifted orator and have good teaching thank you. 😁
G'day, Pastor Begg! I have been learning about the life of Martin Luther and the struggles he encountered in trying to attain righteousness through works of self-deprivation, penance, self-inflicted corporal punishment, and copious confession to his superior. These only served to make him more miserable and increasingly less assured of his right relationship with God. Fortunately, he discovered through reading God's word, specifically Romans 1:17, "the righteous will live by faith", that it is through faith alone in Christ alone that the righteousness of God (imputed through faith) is our only hope of salvation. The rich young ruler in the text today reminded me of Luther's attempts to gain eternal life by any means other than faith in Christ.
There is no pastor or teacher of the holy scripture that can tell you who 'David" is in the books of Ezekiel and Jeremiah because they themselves are not into works and cannot understand that dimension of living. No doubt, David is a follower of Jesus. A man that DOES as JESUS commanded. And he has a kingdom and he shepherds the people. A Christian is not a follower of Jesus and is in danger of going to hell per the spoken words of Jesus. Only those that do the will of the FATHER will be saved. Works plays a significant role in who and what the vessel is and I'll tell you right now that God will not drink out of a filthy cup. The vessel is very important. It's the difference between a holy man of God and a worker of iniquity. The new temple is within us and it must be acceptable and approved of God so that he will come and dwell with us. And yes, goodness most definitely matters and we mustn't live outside of the box. God is good so we too must be good. Like FATHER like son and daughter. What FATHER wouldn't want his or her child to be good? And what FATHER would want a child that lacks natural affection? One that is insensitive, disobedient and somebody that they are not? God don't want bad, he wants good. And no, we don't do it because we have to, we do it because we want to, big difference. And like a child, we grow and progress in goodness. We don't say, I'm no good. What God wants to hear us say is I CAN DO THIS. I can finish and be a good man. It's the end result that God knows while we are looking negatively at ourselves. We must advance forward to who and what GOD will have us be. Amen
That is so off center. You can't read into it like that. Workers of iniquity will go to hell. Jesus was not a rich man. On the contrary, he gave all the money away and preached from the hilltops. He knew that the poor would be with us always and so the money went out to help them. The worst thing a Christian can have is money in their possession stock piling their bank accounts, you will be judged. The rich young ruler no doubt is in hell along with the many others that love money more than God.
