Actually Padmavati existed. I have been to the rooms where she took bath in Chittorgarh Fort and have also seen the room where Padmavati stood and looked at the mirror and Khilji saw her reflection.

The cinematography of this film is on the different level... Makes you feel that you have stepped into a different world....one of the special scenes was when they showed the soldiers and women running in turns.... It's not because the women know the short cut.... Actually, when the women through coals and set fire in front of the soldiers... They shut the doors again, so ranveer singh or allaudin took a different long route but the soldiers destroyed the doors and came rushing in.... And the specialty of showing them run in turns is that both the soldiers and the rajput women are symbolised as warriors... The soldiers are running because they are rushing into the fort in order to claim the defeated territory and the women.... While the women are warriors who are running because( mind you, they are not running away), they are running towards the fire to sacrifice themselves and they are the true warriors there because they are defeating the soldiers in their own way.... The are not fighting and winning physically but symbolically.... Respect!!!!!

Correction here - your observation regarding the 'long route' and the 'short route' was spot-on. The architecture of these forts always contained 'trick routes' - the long routes - situated in the outermost perimeter. A devilishly clever strategy to ensure that anyone trying to breach them would, figuratively, take 'forever' to reach the 'inside'... A delaying tactic... While the residents of the fortress could use the 'shortest route', which only they knew, to 'escape tunnels' or in this case, the site of 'Johar kund'

In history, there was a siege of Chittaurgarh, led by Alauddin Khilji in 1303. There was a battle between Alauddin Khilji and Raja Ratnasimha. However, the motive for the siege is contested between historians. The Sufi Poet Malik Mohammed Jayasi wrote the poem "Padmaavat" where he wrote a fictional story about the lust of king Alauddin to capture Rani Padmini.
But the real history chroniclers of Alauddin Khilji, namely Amir Khusrau, Ziauddin Barani, and Abdul Malik Isami do not mention Rani Padmini, and say that this siege was motivated by the expansionist nature of Alauddin Khilji (They were the court historians of Alauddin Khilji, so they would know).
Anyways, Alauddin besieged the fort for 8 months, when he repeatedly attempted to scale the hill, but was repulsed back. In the end, he brought out big siege machines (probably inspired by Mongol siege engines or maybe those were all the rage at that time) and pelted the fort walls, weakening them and making is easy to enter.
Either way, Alauddin entered the fort on 26 August 1303, and livid at the stubborn resistance of the king, ordered the inhabitants massacred. As per Amir Khusrau (Alauddin's official Historian), around 30,000 people were put to death.
Coming to the Jauhar part, the historians at that time (Khusrau, Barani) did not chronicle the jauhar happen, nor did they chronicle what had happened to the queen. So some historians believe that jauhar may have happened there, and the queen and her entourage committed jauhar, except it was not documented by the official historians (Amir Khusrau and Ziauddin Barani).
That lack of documentation (of Jauhar) would make sense if Alauddin's siege was motivated by a desire to conquer the kingdom. In that case, the historians would record the capture of the kingdom and would not bother to record the events of jauhar, as the queen was not the primary objective of the battle.

@@prabhatsourya3883 I understand what you are saying and I also know that you are really intelligent (really I am not joking) but one thing that I remember from the movie was Alauddin buring the pages of history....... I personally think that if a author is writing for a King, so he may not write against the king or about the lust that he had and in the end he didn't even got what he wanted. That's why I think we should focus on some poet who were not the court members of the King because they would have wrote about King fearlessly (that's just my opinion)

    • @prabhatsourya3883
      @prabhatsourya3883 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@yugampandey4600 I wholeheartedly agree with that point. But the thing is, even the later rajput historians have dismissed the theory of Alauddin Khilji's lust for Rani Padmini. They too believe Padmaavat as a fictional piece, and the real motive for besieging Chittorgarh was an expansionist policy. But the rajput historians are unambiguous about the jauhar, and say that it indeed happened.
      P. S. The reason why many historians believed the siege to be an expansionist policy was that Alauddin Khilji was running multiple campaigns across the Mewar region of Rajasthan, having conquered Ranthambhore the year before. Chittaurgarh was sheltering the rebels who fled from Ranthambhore and other conquered regions.
Also, Alauddin Khilji might have asked for Rani Padmini to humiliate the Rajput king, but many historians (including Rajput historians) still claim that Rani Padmini was not the actual motive for the siege.

Veiling for was a custom for ALL, not for royalty alone. ( Every woman is veiled in the video) . The veil falls off because she intends to 'wear the veil of fire', not for her hair to 'fly'😂. Recall the first scene in the sequence where her husband is pronounced dead, and she says 'the time has come to wear the veil of fire '

The answer to your question regarding the 'pallu' is in your video, at 3.37 - it's time to Don the veil of fire
'pallu' is a veil... It had to slide off not for aesthetic reasons, but because that veil had to come off so that the 'last veil' - the fire of Johar - could take its place.
    P. S. In Hinduism, fire is mostly associated with sacrifices that are required to obtain purity of heart and mind. Resulting in attainment of 'enlightenment'

    Yes Queen Padmavati existed.
I don't understand which historians or book you had gone through.
There are many more incidents in Indian history related to Johar.
And Director of the movie was slapped because he was portraying the story for gaining Commercial benefits which leads people like you to miss understand our culture and traditions on the name of freedom to expression. He was trying to film a dream Seen of Allaudin Khilgi with Queen Padmavati which is intolerable for the respect of the lady who sacrifice her self so that she will be not even touched by some other guy. We really respect our culture and our history.
Yes a Poem book (kavya) named Padmavat has the only written proof of that. FYI Every incident was recorded after its happening. And the first thing any invader do is to burn the all historical records. So singing song or poems was the only way in that time of recording the events. Since that time there was no youtube or email technology to make a records.
I request you to please visit india specially Rajasthan where you can find all the archeological & historian proofs. Related to Johar, Padmavati or Alludin Khiljee.
Dont be Judgmental and put any view without knowing everything specially related to History.
    Goggle is not History.

I don't believe all this was a just imaginery stories. This was a folklore passed on for centuries . There r many many dastardly acts that happened and r passed on in songs and tales of that particular region. Atrocities by Islamic as well as by Christian massioneries in India. But historians r not always fully right abt their facts.

The seige of chitorgarh by Akbar resulted in Jauhar. Please look up the historical fact. padmavati represents all those women who died so they wouldnt have a fate that led to rape and enslavement. They burnt their bodies because the savages were known to rape and descrate the dead too.
It's an issue of bodily autonomy.
They knew the savages would not differentiate between young or old, dead or alove. Hence, agni kund. Brave women!

As an Indian woman I feel more pained that these women felt they had no choice but to kill themselves because our traditions have ingrained in us that being raped makes us lesser than who we used to be and that we're too weak to fight against men. You could see they had a small army of women inside the fort but instead of picking up the trishuls and anything else that could've served as a weapon, they just gave up. This scene always gives me goosebumps and it takes exceptional courage to walk into a blazing fire but it still pains me to see so many women just give up and not die fighting.

@sittingduck I think it is just the different perspective of seeing the history or this particular event because you can't judge past incidents on the basis of today's morality it was not like they have not fought Rani Padmavati as well as the other woman fought in their own way....
And I don't think so in our history anywhere it is taught that women are weak because when it comes to Queen bravery then in Indian history there have also been queens like Rani Lakshmi Bai and many more Queen warriors who are not taught in our school textbooks that's why you don't know about them ...

I find this debate of whether it really happened or not . Was it true ? very stupid. My student asked me if Ramayana really took place. How does it matter? The main thing is the lessons we learn from it. Rama, at a time when multiple marriages were common, especially for men, showed that having one wife is the ideal. Hey his own father had three wives. So let us not get into the rabbit hole of fact and fiction. Let us learn from all this and feel proud about our culture.

Why they did jauhar nd not just killed themselves? Becoz these malekshas ( the M inva.. rs ) used to practice necrophilia. These brave women don't wanted even their dead bodies to be touched by them .
Jauhar happened atleast 3 times( as far as I remember) in Indian history .
Jauhar never happened when there was fight between hindu kings or with anyone except with M ... becoz hindus/ Rajputs never used to take other's women. This was kinda unwritten rule ( cultural effect) that nobody will touch / disrespect other's women.
But in case of M..... it was different becoz we all know what they used to do ....
