Most Stands are hyperspecific and pretty weak, while Hermit Purple can increase your mobility, act as a GPS, restrain opponents, grab the remote from the table without getting up, etc. Kinda a jack of all trades stand that's not even close to the best at anything but can do a lot of things.

And considering we haven't seen that much time between from when he got his fruit and sets sail we have no idea how long it actually took to get the basics down.
