  • Hi, I'm lucky to have the opportunity to go into Myanmar and share with you the lives of the ordinary people in Yangon. I will visit the locals in the 9th District of Lanmadaw Township. In this episode, we will attend a yearly offering and donation at the Lanmadaw Township. We will see how the local embrace their culture and interactions with the monks, as well as, the newly initiated young monks.
    A Short Yangon Background:
Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon, is the capital of the Yangon Region and the largest city in Myanmar. It served as Myanmar's capital until 2006 when the administrative functions were relocated to Naypyidaw. With over five million residents, Yangon is a bustling commercial center and boasts the largest number of colonial-era buildings in Southeast Asia. The city's iconic landmarks include the Sule Pagoda, which is reputed to be over 2,000 years old, and the gilded Shwedagon Pagoda, Myanmar's most sacred Buddhist site. Its name, "Yangon," means "End of Strife," commemorating the end of conflicts between the Mon and British forces in the region. Located on the east bank of the Yangon River, it's Myanmar's industrial and commercial hub.
