    so is it bad to front squat using the cross arm technique vs the cross fit technique as described in this video? ive also seen guys hold the end of wrist straps that are connected to the bar. I guess cuz they lack the flexibility in the wrist and forearm to use the crossfit technique. is that also not ideal?

      It's not wrong at all. The reason Crossfit teaches this position is because it's really just the end of a Clean. So learning how to do squat's from this position translates directly into finishing your clean. Work on your wrist flexibility (tons of stuff out there, check out K-Starr's vids) and work your way up to this style if you intend on doing any Olympic lifting.

      The only reason to practice the front squat is to train yourself to drive out of the bottom of a heavy clean (or a heavy thruster, if you do CrossFit). You can't catch a clean with your arms crossed - and for pure strength, the back squat is a superior movement - so doing front squats that way is pointless.

      Crossing the arms makes people more prone to leaning forward and is also a less stable way of holding the weight. Holding this way stabilizes the weight better and makes you realize when you start tilting forward sooner than if you had your arms crossed. To each their own but try it out for yourself and i'm sure you'd see a difference with heavier weight.

    10 minute video with no mention about his pelvic tilt (butt wink)? It's important not to neglect that because it's not necessarily only about the elbows all the time - you can see that when he cues the guy to stop at the bottom, then as soon as the guy goes an inch lower he loses the rack. He is compensating from the mid-back, and not keeping the infamous "mid-line stability". That's why it gets better as he gets coaching but it's impossible to fix this in a 10 minute period. Good job nonetheless.

      He's tilting the pelvis because if you actually look at his spinal position in the rack, he's hyperextended. The tilt is his spine actually correcting itself into the correct position. Notice when it tilts it's not actually tucking all the way under his butt, but stopping in line with his shoulder.

      it's a pain in the ass squatting without proper shoes. I'm waiting for mine to arrive, so I stuck with running shoes
