This movie has one of the best storylines in movies. And it was so well done, with a musical score that made the movie so fine. The cast, the music, the theme and the direction all fell in line. GREAT MOVIE!!
One of my favorite parts.....and it is SUCH great movie making......is where the crowd surges forward to see the ship open up. But then when Gort starts walking down the ramp they recoil in fear. Plus the surprised look of the Lieutenant when Gort appears. Perfectly played. Then there is the fact that Gort only uses force in proportion to the threat. At first he only disintegrates their weapons and not the people. But later in the movie after they've killed Klatu he kills the guards and yet retrieves Klatu from the jail house without further conflict. This is perfection in movie making.
Borned in 1956. At a very young age my sister and I snuck into the hallway and peek around the corner into the living room were mom and dad were watching TDTESS. When Gort came out of the saucer it scared the hell out of me, I thought he was real just like the stuff on the news!!!! I rank this amount the best of the Sii-Fi movies of all time, even though the real message seems to have been lost to today's world.
This is one of those iconic sci-fi films one never tires of. It's far superior to all of the CGI-infected trash produced today. Plus, we have Bernard Herrmann's brilliant music score.
It doesn't really matter that the sci-fi effects in the original "The Day The Earth Stood Still" may be considered "corny" or even "cheesy" by today's standards. The story, the dialogue, the acting, the photography, the directing, the music, and the editing are so powerful and so elegantly conceived that the picture will always capture our imaginations, and will remain vibrant even with repeated viewings for generations to come.
As a special effects technician, I also contend that today's special effects are built on the SHOULDERS of the special effects in "The Day the Earth Stood Still". The innovations of today, would not exist without the innovations of yesterday. 👽💚
One of my all time favorite Sci-fi movies. My surgeon and I got talking about sci-fi movies and we both quoted Klatu's message to Gort! And he saw it in Haiti! LOL. The saddest thing about this movie is that it is probably what WOULD happen if an alien came to Earth today! And the message is still meaningful! This movie made me a BIG fan of Michael Rennie.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen this movie! And I look forward to the next time. Now why can’t they make movies like this anymore? The updated version sucks!
I'd like to read the original shooting script-anyone have a link? also: this movie was from 1951! WAY before the silly saucer exploitation garbage films!

Great Movie with deep thoughts of human emotion, given this Alien introduction! Shame on the remake!!! What a crock of shit that was!!! Never has there been nor ever will be so great a. SF movie again.

Like most remakes the remake of TDTESS was pure garbage
Correct (I can’t look at even a minute of it).
The audio isn't audible.
HAY...LIKE NOW!!😮 PROBLEMS
Oi where's the rest?!
How was the remake of WAR OF THE WORLDS ? AND did they make a remake of Invaders from Mars ?
Yes, they made remakes of both pictures and ya know what? They both suck. Message here is don't do remakes of the greats.
