I really enjoy paddling all sections of the grand River…. And this is an excellent summary of the access points. Helps to refresh my memory! Thanks for the video!
At West Monrose there is an access point now on the right side of the river. You have to go through West Monrose Family Camp to get there, signs indicate the direction pretty well.
We either leave a second vehicle at the end point or get friends/family to drive us back to the start. We either leave the canoe somewhere that seems safe or leave some people with the canoe while others get the van. Canoeing alone, Graham has brought his bike with him in the canoe to bike back and get the van. Taking a taxi/Uber back to the start to get your vehicle is another good option if you’re near the city.
Oohh, tough call. Most places the flow isn’t great for SUP’ing. The boat launch at River Bluff Park in Cambridge is one place that comes to mind that might be good. The Parkhill dam is just a bit downstream so the flow is usually a less here.
Thanks for making this great video! I'm thinking of canoing the Grand for the first time and I was just wondering how strong the current is? Would there be any problem paddling against the current in certain areas? Which areas should we avoid if we need to do a round trip to return to the same parking lot?
A lot of people go from Schneider’s Park up to a set of rapids just before Victoria Street. Unless it has rained recently, there’s not much of a strong current through the Waterloo Region. This time of year the water is pretty low, so you might have to pull your canoe over some parts. It’s a beautiful paddle!
It is possible! People have done it, but it’s not common. Anything North of Bellwood is very shallow, so spring is usually best. We’ve been looking into it… 😊

Great summary! Thank you for creating this. 👍
Thanks! Happy to share what we know!
Thanks for sharing. How do you get back to parking after paddle, especially with a canoe or inflatable?

@@AdventuresWithTheHills Thanks for the input..much appreciated!!
Are all of these one way and require a shuttle back or can you paddle both ways?
Hi, I have an inflatable kayak and wondering if possible to Kayak from Riverbend to King St safely? I haven't seen inflatables on the river.
It does get pretty shallow in some places. People do inner tubes through that section, but it would depend on the durability of your kayak.
Where would you recommend SUP’ing on the Grand?

Can you paddle the whole length of the Grand River? Anybody ever done that?
