My group is inside a crashed Nautiloid right now but they assume it's just a weird dungeon and I love how they say things like "why is this pool here?!"
In the game I’m in the party discovered how Nautaloids were made while on a Mindflayer diskworld tomb. The discovered that they were in part constructed by using a modified version of ceromorphisis on psionic space fairing creatures capable of spelljamming that are apparently extinct now. The party found a stasis chamber with a defective Nautaloid that my Wizard telepathically communicated with. She wanted to be free and to see the stars again so we freed her and she gave us a ride home to Toril and is our spelljammer when she’s not roaming. We named her Cthylla and are planning to search for more of her kind (pre-ceromorphisis)
I really hope we’ll see a Nautiloid miniature someday. Either the beautiful classic design or the cool new version. Either a huge ship like the recent sailing ship or on a different scale in a series of Spelljammer miniatures. Whether a full scale return of Spelljammer or a 5th ed version of the Illithiad campaign or diving right into the middle of the Mindflayer vs Gith/Dragon war. Or how about all 3? Spelljammer confirmed might be a standard joke, but Games Workshop had Sisters of Battle confirmed and now they are back, Squats confirmed and they released 3 and I’m told there’s even a spin-off Half Life game. Clearly a lot of us want it.
Anytime I see Chris I'm going to click, watch, and like...lol. And Greg too..lol. Happy to see both of you doing well and making content for us heathens💯 love this show 💪🏼👍🏼⚔
Wow... the lore must have changed SUBSTANTIALLY from Spelljammer. I loved the art design of the Nautiloid from the outset, even piloting one for much of a campaign, so it's a design I'm well familiar with. Not saying that times couldn't have changed, just that this was not the Nautiloid I grew up with. I'm even willing to accept that maybe this "living ship" is something the illithid discovered how to do later on? And the ship seen in the trailer is an advanced model of this technique? I do remember that module's cover art and thinking I didn't like the way they took a perfectly good spelljammer and turned into a weird Tyrannid kinda thing :/ In Spelljammer, they were just fancy *wooden* ships built by their slaves (illithids designed them but don't do any work themselves; they're more the brains of the operation :) ). They were no more living things than neogi spider ships. The ram was just carved wood, and the shell was built to shelter the illithids from direct sunlight, being creatures that preferred darkness. The entire ship had a 180' keel with a 30' beam, and weighed 35 tons, with 17 tons set aside for cargo. It had a minimum crew of 10, with a maximum of 35... mostly slaves/rations/batteries. The original art had a couple banks of oars, but there was no space set aside for rowing benches in the hull plan... though you could probably lay some benches in the cargo hold. Apart from the ram, it was armed with 3 medium ballista, 1 medium catapult, and a rear-facing jettison (basically a debris-thrower) Pool Helms were actually very rare (10%), as illithids didn't want to exhaust their own power: the main type of Helm found aboard a Nautiloid was a Series Helm, which I believe is what we saw in the trailer, which powers the Helm by draining the life force from victims placed inside. As the Nautiloid was under 50 tons, PCs could easily install a standard Type 1 Helm and operate it without all the evilness :)
I've always been a fan of biological technology, and was a little disappointed when I originally found out that the nautiloids were just wood and steel. I'm very happy with the changes that Larian introduced, and if they do make a spelljammer book, I hope they keep it in.
Thanks for adding this, I like the concept in the BG3 trailer, but the original Nautiloid is charming too, and makes a lot of sense for the setting, because vast numbers of slaves can build lots of fleets, but all that slave labour cannot contribute as significantly if the ships need to be grown. One small correction though, as far as I'm aware, Series Helms do not drain life force, they just allow multiple magic users to contribute their power towards moving the ship. Lifejammers and Death Helms are the ones that kill the user.
I wonder what happened with Chris Perkins' tweet last year about Curse of Strahd-related thing he's worked on for this year, but nevertheless would love a Spelljammer setting book. Perhaps the tweet was about Spelljamming? It's the November 10th tweet for those wondering.
I like the idea of mindflayers not so much as building their ships , but growing their ships. For example maybe the Notiloid is a domesticated or dominated and warped version of a Kracken or Proto-Kracken.
I might not actually use this mindflayer ship in my game, but I do have a Giff who will probably recall a fight aboard a Nautaloid. So that could be fun
I know not everyone likes to run a mercantile trading campaign but I have always loved the Numbers and Crunch play of D&D I would love to see more of that in future books or at least some solid 3rd party books if WOTC dont think it would be mainstream enough
In the Larian video, I thought it looked like the cord used for plane shifting was a displacer beast’s...tentacles? Just used in a mind flayer style on the nautiloid 🦑
I would like to hear some information about the shattered crystal sphere. Maybe not necessarily what shattered it, but what it used to be, what the theories are about it, or have some kind of adventures that make use of it. Personally, all I've gathered is that the Arcanes came from there, as well as the spelljammers. I have a theory, though, that the Lady of Pain was one of the gods of that sphere, and when she came to Sigil she brought some of the wildspace and atmosphere from there to Sigil and that prevents other gods from messing with it.
I'm running a campaign where the Illithid Empire has risen up and conquered most of the multiverse again, but my players were born on a world that sectioned itself off entirely. It's been protected for so long that hardly anyone remembers that there is a multiverse, so I've just been running it as a singular world. I can't wait to drop a nautiloid in front of them and have mind flayers march their thrall armies across the world.
I imagine them ass skulls of an extinct cosmic giant like being. they hunted them too extinction so thats why they are finite. i like the idea of mindflayers ship being a head.
Can we please get a Spelljammer sourcebook w/ the Spelljammers updated to the quality of the Illithid Nautiloid in BGIII. I think now is the perfect time to break the mold and show off some Sci-Fan as that has recently had a renaissance.
I was under the impression that Nautiloids and all other spelljamming related stuff was developed in secret by a race called "The Arcane" (forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Arcane_(race))
Arcane have a monopoly on traditional helms. However pool-Helms (powered by Elder brain) Lifejammer helms, beholder occulus helms (powered by a unique type of beholderkin) etc also exist
at this point i dont even think we need a spelljammer campaign for 5e, a few stat blocks and a page explaining how to operate the vessels would be enough.
Why yes, yes we would love a spelljammer sourcebook for 5E. Thank you :)
I will wait for you to leave to sprinkle the glitter on the residue of the mighty gluestick for the spelljammer signs
Why yes, yes we would love to hear AJ Pickett's take on the released version of 5E Spell jammer.
Yes please! Give Spelljammer sourcebook now!
yes, and dark sun, the sorcerer kings command it
@@EvanMcVeigh but only if they don't neuter it like they just did with Ravenloft
Would absolutely love a spelljammer setting book for 5e
This, just confirm it for real already
My group is inside a crashed Nautiloid right now but they assume it's just a weird dungeon and I love how they say things like "why is this pool here?!"
I know I'm 5 months late to this comment, but did it turn horror story a la Aliens? As a player, that's where my mind goes straightaway.
Mr Perkins, I shall repeat my cry at Origins years ago, "STOP TEASING US WITH SPELLJAMMER!"
In the game I’m in the party discovered how Nautaloids were made while on a Mindflayer diskworld tomb. That's cool as hell.
I would LOVE if Spelljammer came back! :D
If Wizards won't give us a Spelljammer book for 5e then maybe they can do an Unearthed Arcana entry to maybe update some stuff for 5e.
Matt Colville taught me what these were in his latest campaign. Great video Dragon Talk.

I am a fan of the idea that the naughtaloids were a long subjugated species that the ilithid repurposed as ships
I love the nautiloid! such a gnarly ship. Glad to see spelljammer is once again confirmed for 5e!
Confirmed lol
Anytime I see Chris I'm going to click, watch, and like...lol. And Greg too..lol. Happy to see both of you doing well and making content for us heathens💯 love this show 💪🏼👍🏼⚔

It was about ruining Ravenloft apparently 🤦
I like the idea of mindflayers not so much as building their ships , but growing their ships. For example maybe the Notiloid is a domesticated or dominated and warped version of a Kracken or Proto-Kracken.
Always happy to hear about the D&D multiverse cosmology. Still very popular!
There are illithids in Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, aren't there? That could explain the confusion.
Spelljammer for 5e already!
I might not actually use this mindflayer ship in my game, but I do have a Giff who will probably recall a fight aboard a Nautaloid. So that could be fun

I love anything Spelljammer! 🐙
So my artificer homonculus is officially Captain Tenticles now, a miniature space nautiloid
Stuff like this is why I am so driven to perfect and balance my playable mind flayer race while still keeping that sweet sweet flavor of brain powers
Spelljammer!!!!
Greg: I cast bird stroke!
DM: At what level?
Greg: 3rd?

Adventurers in Space (sung to The Muppets Pigs in Space melody) 🤣

We want a Chris Perkins man cave/play area tour.
Spelljammer CONFIRMED! Whoooooo!!!!!!!!!!!
100% Spelljammer needs to be updated to 5th Edition
I love these loredumps!
!!! Spelljammer!!
I imagine them ass skulls of an extinct cosmic giant like being. they hunted them too extinction so thats why they are finite. i like the idea of mindflayers ship being a head.

I want a Speljammer setting book and some adventures for 5e more than any other book at this point.
lots of seats in those Nautiloids;
not many passenger seats though...
cruel spelljammer non-confirmation
Spelljammer adventure book?
I hope we get these soon.
I mean, jokes aside, I would love a Spelljammer sourcebook...
Chris Perkins is awesome
These are likely the animals that Nautiloid is based on :en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nautilus
So are we getting an official Spelljammer 5e book?
Is there one of these about the playable Tabaxi race? If not, yes please.
Great vid. Thanks!
Spell jammer campaign setting?
This is tight. I love it. So stoked to explore more about illithids and Nautiloids in BG3 and in my home game.
Hi Chris! You know we can really use some T.O.R.C.H. right now.
So...spelljammer? :)
I wish Japanese channel had ones like this.
Love me some spelljammer!
what issue is that crashed ship in ?
Confirmed
Starts 1:12
Wild magic sorcerer + spelljamming helm = ???
Fun Times
Less havoc than you are hoping for, I'm afraid. Spelljammer Helms just drains spell power, rather than full magic
Spelljammers are the name of the vessels they use to travel on in space.
Spelljammer sourcebook for 5E please please please.
They've been confirmed that both spelljammer and planescape are the default setting for 5e, so it's all been canon from jump
No... Forgotten Realms is the default setting.
FR is compatible with Spelljammer and Planescape but that's not the same thing.
35 tons!
Could i play a game with you guys?
Didnt know they named a campaign after that thow.

Hammership was way cooler.... just saying
Stay safe, guys!
First :) Great show, keep it up guys.
