So Glinda sings the lower harmony while Elphaba is singing the higher melody. There’s an interview with Kristen Chenoweth where she discusses that Glinda’s music is purposefully composed so that when she is “lying” her voice goes higher which is why “No One Mourns the Wicked” has some of her highest notes while when she is telling the truth her voice goes lower, which is why in duets like “Defying Gravity” and especially “For Good” they voice exchange and she sings the lower harmony.
