Listen to the whole song lol, it literally said “imagine a world where we could play different roles” - they are just talking about a world where women treat men the way women are already treated by men. Their industry is male dominated, their culture is patriarchal, they have to conform to standards set by men, but what IF the tables were turned? That’s what the song is about.

I was JUST about to write this! “Imagine” is critical to the storyline here and the flip of role reversal. It’s all a HYPOTHETICAL 💯 And no where are they talking ‘down’ about boys …, if anything, who wouldn’t want to be their puppet ? I’m pretty sure they would enjoy it. 😂LOL.

Lol, lets stop with this whole XG talking down on men narrative. It’s clear this song has many different meanings. XG is a group already defying odds, and they have much to say along with that. Not all songs women make where they are powerful and roles being switched is all about men.Glad you support XG.

It isn't about women controlling men. If you pay attention to the lyrics it's about them asking 'what if we change places'? 'what if we are in control'. 'would you like to be dangled on a string too'? We can't deny that we still on a patriarchal society where men still look down upon women.
There's a short video about the 'not so hidden' message of the song and MV by KPOP Novice.
XG has been clear about women empowerment since day one and this by far is the best example of it.

women empowerment by putting down someone else, totally. the reason they did it doesn't matter, if they need to put down someone to get higher there's an issue with the message. I liked the song but the lyrics are cringe because it's overdone and is forced political correctness. if this is the case everyone wants idols to have freedom of speech until they say something they don't agree with. xg isn't honest and open, it's a marketing strategy. all idols care about their image it's literally their job. and this is one way to gain publicity doing so because it's a politically correct message that many idols have already done before them so they're walking on a very safe lane.

@@unknown-km9dv well you're entitled to your opinion as much as I do. And if that's the narrative you've seen or heard with the song then is OK. I love how every person that thinks this is about men being played LITERALLY don't pay attention to the first part of the song. Hinata says word for word "but it feels like I'm never heard." Listener goes straight to doing just that... NOT ACTUALLY LISTENING lol. THEN they say "imagine a world where WE COULD PLAY DIFFERENT ROLES, where girls be taking control." - meaning they currently are NOT in control and what does it feel like to have actual control??? The ones in CONTROL (again NOT WOMEN) treat people like puppets... c'mon, it's not that hard. If you put this song in the context of the kpop industries treatment of idols Or even the historical treatment of women, it makes total sense the message they are trying to send. I'm glad you still enjoyed the song but XG was trying to use their ART to send and portray this important message❤

Let's add to the fact this group are Japanese girls playing by Korean kpop platform rules and standards. Their success so far is because of the hard work they put into this group and still they aren't not respected in the Kpop industry because they are not Korean. Producer Simon aka JaKoPs comes from both worlds being born American but son of Japanese and Korean parents not to mention he was also a kpop idol and produced a song that lowkey talks about the industry in general regardless of gender but makes a song that sounds like gender roles being flipped. Control isn't something to be trivialized and the song transcends beyond the whims of someone having it and how tempting it is to be pulling the strings. The girls actually question in the song if they would be any better.

A girl says that she doesn't feel heard in her relationship. She feels like she is not treated the way she deserves to be treated. Then the girls imagine a confrontation with men. Basically saying you can't treat us like this anymore. "Imagine a world where we can play different roles", where women treat men as badly as women are treated in the real world.

this is not a song that's talking down on every men, if you know XG well enough, you will know what they stand for and the message they trying to tell... first it's about bringing awareness and ask us to imagine if the role reverse, then we'll be in a puppet show kind of situation. second, it's most likely also about the kpop or idol industry how they treat girls/idols in general...
if you look at the chorus lyrics, and imagine those words coming out of like a entertainment company ceo's mouth or something it totally make sense...
"Welcome to the puppet show (that's the kpop indusctry)
Where we (ceo/ high position people) play'em (those girls idol) like their (girls' ) plastic dolls (girls play dolls)
    They'll do anything anything anything
When you got'em hanging by a string by a string
    Gonna play'em like their toys
We'll make'em do what we (producers/ those in control / fans / audience ) enjoy
    They'll do anything
When you got'em by a string"....
even the bridge "follow my lead, just leave the whole thing up to me, my expertise..." it's kinda weird if it's from a girl to a guy, but if you replace it with a music producer to an idol then it totally make sense..
this is a pretty dark song actually...

But can't reciprocate that same energy for the opposite. If women did that there would be no end to it. Its just kind of an exepted standard now. If you listen to Chris brown. Jucy J, Em, Jayz, lil wayne, drake, ect. Then you really shouldn't have an negative opinion on this song at all. Cause it's hypocrite behavior. The amount of angry reactions on meg thee stallion when she hit the scene was wild. Men where fuming, and where the same ones play women degrading music EVERYDAY! Then can't wait for their favorite male artist to do the same thing. Keep in mind men have done that for years and before you bring up women who have be realistic. Is the ratio the same ? Is it for every man who does it there is a women or have there only been a few in a sea of males? Exactly. Maya, Hinata, Harvey & Jurin's first verses litteraly are saying to listen to what comes out of their mouths, because they don't feel heard and if they won't be treated like ladies then things will go in a different route... imagine a world where roles are different! They are saying to listen, treat them (women, artists and such) as equals or else they'll rise up and switch it up on them (men, whoever chooses to degrade the work they do)- and it'll be their turn to play around with them like puppets as they've been treated like for centuries... It's actually feminism at its core. It's not women hating on men. It's asking to be heard and respected but if they can't even do that, then there will be a *fight* because enough is enough. For anyone who can't take the time to go beyond their own prejudice and see past the chorus, there's no such hope for self-growth because they obviously prefer the world in which it benefits them at the moment... instead of looking around them and seeing the injustices at every turn- starting with their own maternal figures...

I find it funny how the song is literally them asking for respect and to be treated right to it then be misinterpreated into a man hating song. Jurin says quite literally in her rap line "Treat me like a lady this ain't up for debating boy stop playing before it goes a different route" meaning she not talking about men in general but whoever she's in a relationship with and then the song continues on explaining that. The chorus is song from the man's perspective meaning if they were the guy this is what they would say. Basically saying if the roles were reverse how you feel if you were being strung along but if they treated you like puppets they way you treated them they wouldn't have to worry about anything because they had control over you. The song also isn't about men in general their talking about whover they are in a relationship with. Their relationship is like a puppet show and they are being played like puppets and all they want is respect and to be treated correctly. Idk where the misconception came from that this was a man hating song but there are multiple artist that sing songs about not wanted to be played but for some reason XG's song is somehow a man hating agenda and that's kinda weird. This is my interpretation of the song but song has more then one meaning and none of them are about hating men.

It is also very tiring, trying to make men, specifically, in making them understand the plight of women in years before the now, and even up today, who's struggling to live BECAUSE of men smh.
(Additional : Talking about "talking down of men" when none of the lyrics that was said is even present or real, but some what ifs, to just make ignorant men like you understand what woman had to go through to the hands of men. The lyrics never meant what we, women, has done, but what men has been doing to women; a mere object, a doll. The way you guys dismiss the first verse is also irritating ugh)

I feel like its worth mentioning for everyone here in the comments, just so every viewpoint is actually addressed. (Also, I am well aware that if enough people see this it's rather likely it'll get some negative backlash, so spare me on it) TL;DR AT THE VERY END IF YOU DON'T WANT ALL THE MATH N SHII
Mostly everyone in the comments is discussing the fact that the song isn't, "XG talking down on men", it's just about, "switching the roles" "showing men a taste of their own medicine" "showing men what its like to live in a patriarchal society" and "do YOU like being dangled like you're on a string?". Okay, cool. Got it. So we're establishing that is the purpose/message of the song and I'm totally okay with that. None of that is DIRECTLY speaking ill of men I suppose, so we'll continue to work off of the idea that the song is taking a "what if?" scenario of reversing gender stereotypes and patriarchal societies.
(Before this next part please do understand that I'm completely aware of the fact that XG comes out of Japan that has entirely different social expectations, hierarchies, and history regarding gender inequalities than the West. I implore YOU to understand that the team and company behind the group of XG however are marketing this to an international audience targeted specifically at western K-Pop fans and Korean fans, considering their employment of western producers, songwriters, and editing teams)
When we discuss the patriarchal system what is it that we're actually discussing? Are we addressing corporations? Are we addressing industries? Are we addressing governments? Are we addressing education? Are we addressing individual relationships? Let's tackle it one-by-one.
The patriarchal system of corporations and industries being dominated primarily by men! 88% of billionaires in 2022 were men! That number is insane! Men are monopolizing the entirety of the world, how dare these greedy bastards! This seems like an insane statistic, right? Well, its 88% of 3,194. So what does that get to? About 2,811 men are billionaires, the top of the top of the wealth in the world. 4,098,105,639 is the current number of men in the world. That means about .000069% of men in the world are billionaires. How about millionaires? That'll give a better look at how many men are using the patriarchy to exert their power! In 2022, the total number of millionaires in the world was 59.4 million adults, and that's a MUCH larger number, 87.5% if which are men. Nearly 52 million millionaire men in the world, now THAT'S a lot! Let's see how it stacks up overall! .12%. .12% of men in the world are millionaires. If you aren't in this sort of tax bracket with this sort of wealth to toss around, you aren't really in any condition to be altering societal expectations or exerting the authority of the patriarchy, (assuming quite literally EVERY SINGLE male millionaire is a sexist pig that pushes a patriarchal narrative). (also little post edit note: In 2021, 26% of all CEOs and managing directors were women, compared to only 15% in 2019.)
So that was a lot of math and numbers; math and numbers in which didn't even tackle the specifics between industries. So now lets look at MORE numbers, but this time, for government!! These numbers are honestly rather difficult to grab, so lets go to UN Women to get some of these statistics: "Data from 141 countries show that women constitute more than 3 million (35.5 per cent) of elected members in local deliberative bodies." After doing a bit of rough math that leads us to say that around 65.5% are men, which ends up somewhere around 5.5 million, which is about .13% of the male population. Okay, interesting.
I'm not even going to tackle the statistics of education because that is so vastly varied between region let alone country, as well as the fact that women are having a better turn out in higher education systems such as Universities.
So that was a lot of rambling on about statistics, a lot of numbers, and even more math, but what was it for? To hopefully show people that most men don't have the capabilities to exert power from the patriarchy into their normal lives. They have no say over anything regarding law, social expectations, beauty standards, and the like. The small percentage of those with enough wealth, and the even smaller percentage with enough wealth and influence, are the issue. I'm not here to argue against the notion of the patriarchy, in fact I hope my statistics actually prove to you otherwise. However, my purpose in this post is to demonstrate to maybe the one or two people that read this that not every man is at fault for the acts of those few at the very top. We're all dangling off the end of a string being played like puppets.
Now I like the song. The beat is catchy, the lyrics make you think one way or another, and it does speak an actual message agree with it or not. It is important to sit and listen to the grievances women may have, while also reaffirming to men that you aren't evil and haven't done something wrong simply because of how they were born. I think the reason this song in particular struck such a hard cord with so many people is because it comes during a time where many associations are making active attempts to wedge a divide between men and women for some reason or another, and hearing a group you'd often listen to and support tell you they want to put you on the end of a string and play you like a puppet is... kinda rough.
I hope in all of my terribly incoherent mixture of organizational slurry somebody was able to grasp something from this. I mostly just wanted to offer a different perspective, and hopefully I achieved that. Everything being said, at the end of the day, stan XG.
TL;DR i did a whole bunch of math n shii to show that most men cant really compete with the patriarchy either and we need to stop pitting narratives of men vs women and learn who we should really be pointin our knives toward. We needa sit back and listen to women's grievances on how they've been treated, and reaffirm to men that its okay to be a man. Peace and love, stan XG

Late comment here . . . I am also obsessed. I usually try to think about the lyrics but there's always that one song that defies all logic. Puppet Show is one of those. I could just be biased though because I also have an obsession with War of Hormone 💀

Japan is still very men dominant, and men thinks that ladies should carry out “ladies” duties. They were once badly criticized by some Japan music industry CEO saying them not being a “Japanese girl” enough by singing English song. I fully understand why their music could be more towards celebrating women., cheers to them

What I find funny is how many songs are legitimately about men doing whatever they want to women and how many have you second guessed listening to? This song isn’t even about that, but that’s all you hear. If it was the reverse and a male rapper was spitting about doing this and that to his hoes, you wouldn’t think anything of it. The hypocrisy is hilarious. On top of the fact that, again, it’s not even what the song is saying.

Plz this song isn’t looking down upon men. Men are victims of patriarchy, but not victims of women empowerment. This song is about how it would be if women treated men the way men treat women. And it’s not that much fun when u are at the other end right? And there are way more songs that look down upon woman than songs that look down upon men

What if I call you dumb? For not being able to understand, comprehend, the lyrics that are into your face? The first verse was there, the chorus? With the word "Imagine" is there. Now, I'm insulting you.
I obviously watched the whole video of yours, and yes, at the end you said something "I don't care" but you have to know the implications of your intro "This song is about insulting men".
You filmed the video, said what only your brain could understand, edit it, and still upload it.. has it not cross your mind for one bit? *Ah, that wasn't a good take*
I loved your videos, especially the Rotten mango content, but I think we should be mindful of what we will say. Process things? No?
