    For anyone who is planning to use drip irrigation, don't let the drip company talk you into wasting money on a filter. I've used T-Tape for twenty years, pumping pond water through drip tape without ever plugging any emitters. The tape in my houses last several years without plugging up. The only time I've had a problem was when I used gravity from a water tank. With only a pound of water pressure the emitters would clog after a couple hrs. The only filter I use is a piece of window screen around the suction in the pond...

      If you have harder water coming from the well, you could have some issues if you don't have a filter. We've seen some decent-sized minerals in our filters over the years -- large enough to clog an emitter. Also, if you inject fertilizer through the drip system, you can get some algae buildup from time to time. The filter helps with that as well. At $15, it's not a terrible investment to be safe.

      @@gardeningwithhoss LOL! You should have seen the mineral build-up I just scraped off of my dishwasher's filter! It was bad enough to make you want to switch to drinking bottled water! Yeah, I agree with you, for areas with harder water a filter doesn't hurt.

    I am going to buy some of your tomatoe cages because of this video. I don't have a lot of farming experience but I buy your products because you take the time to explain how and why. Have the drip tape and now how to space my tomato plants.

    I used that Florida weave technique last year for the first time, that is the way to go for me - those cheap cages you can get from Lowes only last one or two seasons before they are tearing up.

    I followed your recommendations on planting tomatoes last year and they did AMAZING. I think it was the gypsum that made the difference. I had very little pest pressure or disease. I added some microryzial powder in the hole as well when we put in the transplants.

      We use the pelleted form because it's much easier to apply.

    I love your pine trees!
    What variety are they?
    I have Canary Island pines.

      They are not mine. I despise pine trees and have almost removed every single one from my property. Those belong to my wife's uncle who owns the land beside mine. He loves pine trees.

    I noticed u buried ur drip tapes, is you water gravity fed or you using a pump. Thanks in advance.

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have a well. Gravity-fed systems do not typically have enough pressure to run drip irrigation. You have to get the tanks about 40' above the ground to generate enough pressure to do so.

    How much space do you give between your rows of larger crops, like tomatoes?

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually 4' or so between tomato rows. Some crops like squash and pumpkins will have a 5-6' row spacing.

      @@gardeningwithhoss OK. Thank you! I'm starting my first large garden and it's my first time using drip tubing (just got my order from y'all!). I chose 30' x 35' like many of yours. I'll do some rows 3ft and a few 4ft. I'm thinking I may need to put the squash (winter and summer) and melons in a separate bed‽

    • @gardeningwithhoss

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can take our kit and modify it for a raised bed system. You'll just need more mainline tees and elbows to set up the mainline manifold from bed to bed.
