I have almost the same old Iltis and when I found it I was really astonished because of its slender bit and thought it would make a great Allround woods axe but it to narrow for that. It’s really a specialist tool in my experience
@@dabberty Good. Hey can you check if the steel is magnetic? I'm looking at an iltis new from germany and it's listed as stainless steel so I'm very curious.
Hi Dabberty, thanks for sharing this video of renovating this old Ochsenkopf Iltis axe head. Good work! I've found an old and very very rusty Ochsenkopf Iltis on a flea market but it seems the same one as you have. Would you like to send me a picture on both sides of the stamping of the axe head please. The side with the number on my one is really too rusty to decipher. Thanks in advance. Cheers, Karsten
As cool as he's Rhineland pattern axes are the handles are kind of terrible don't get me wrong I like the pattern in all but I wouldn't really use it for heavy work because you can drive a 747 through the eye now on the smaller hatchets say up to a pound there okay but everything else is just run out straight out the eye.
Well done. It is also nice to see that not everyone insists on giving an axehead a mirror polish.
Thanks, no mirror polishes for me :-) after using that a few times it's ugly. So the original patina looks much more appealing to me.
The burning and the oil made for a very good looking axe handle, the work to the head was spot on. Nice to see a moment for the dog.
Thank you. He usually comes to see what i am doing there :-)
Nice job! Lots of love and attention went to this axe restoration!
Thanks !

Indeed, i use it only for limbing, but not splitting.
My favorite is the other on I restored, a Hults Bruk. A perfect allrounder.
He he , eindelijk weer eens een leuke video van jou hand ... mooi gemaakt Dieter !!
grtz van deze "ouwe" haha...
I hope the heat treatment has not been ruined by the angle grinder.
Doesn't look like it, i had to file away a lot of material anyway cauae of the dents. I'm still using this axe without issues.
