To each his own but can’t imagine going back to the plus model after using the X. It’s such a better form factor, better screen, I like the narrow taller screen, you see more content up and down, since it’s narrow doesn’t fatigue your thumb, Face ID is better than Touch ID IMO especially logging into apps and passwords, I got the black one so don’t see any scratches. Everything Just way better to me. Just my opinion tho
Would have to agree with you. I love my 8+ and although I’ve had plenty of time to play around with an X, I always feel glad I went with an 8+ because of the size and battery life. It’s so underrated it’s not even funny. Great review.

I also prefer my 8+ over the X. I did do a lot of research before choosing one and I ultimately decided that the 8+ would be the better choice. I really did not want to give up that fingerprint scanner. Love how snappy it is. That and I like the plus for its bigger screen size. Using a X would be weird for me. It's difficult to go back to using a smaller phone once you get used to bigger models (I had a 6S plus for 2 years before this). As of right now, the X does not even utilize its full screen size across all apps. Not worth it to me, at least not right now until Apple addresses these issues.

I think your headake is absolutelly normal. Apple are using IPS displays to allmost all of their products, and IPS is good for your head and eyes, belive me. I am not shure but i didn't see anything about IPS on the iphone X.

A forever android high end smartphones user here, I just got the 8plus red 256gb as a gift and started using it two weeks ago, still getting used to things with it but what has made me keep using it is the fact that I get better signal in places I was never able to with all the android phones I've used so far (coming from a note 9 and pixel 2xL) as main most recent devices I used on the daily basis, some things I don't like about it but they aren't game changers, battery life is good which to me is a solid reason to like a phone and I have to say, this red color looks just amazing, I'm a happy android user with this iphone for now, the transition was really easy with all my Google apps and services btw.
Great video. I returned my X for the 8 plus. Hated it. The screen is narrower than the plus and hated the notch so much. If Apple is going to get rid of the home button I’m glad I have the 8 plus as I won’t be buying one without.

Also should've made it so when you hard press the bottom of the screen while it's off, it turns on like a home button. The S8/Note 8 has that and I can't believe no other major phones have done it
You find LCD better in low light because it doesn't use PWM (basically the only solution for manufacturers to control lower brightness on OLED panels) to dim the display. It makes the display flicker which causes eye strain.
Nick I had originally upgraded to the iPhone X but after Just a few days I had realized this myself especially when watching videos in landscape. The X might be taller in height but the width of the plus iPhones still make it a better screen!!! I exchanged my X for an 8 plus after a week and don’t regret it at all!!

I switched from Android to iPhone in September. My first iPhone is the 8 Plus. The reason I chose the 8 Plus over the X was that I knew there would be some of the bumps in the road that you mentioned and I figured I would give Apple a year to work on those and I would get the next generation of X this year. Personally, having iPhone 8 Plus as my first iPhone was a great choice! I am very happy with everything. The experience blows away the 8 years I spent on Android. Everything just works. iMessage is the texting app I had been searching for since there is no Android equivalent. I just love the whole seamless experience. I love the 8 Plus camera. I love the huge screen. It fits my huge hands perfectly. I couldn't be happier.

i'm not giving up to my 8+ because of the touch ID, size and design. overall the 8+ covers everything you need on a phone. besides the cameras placed vertically looks ugly as hell to me.
Some viewers may have gotten the wrong impressions about the scratching so let me try to clarify if I may. Yes the stainless steel is a harder metal than the aluminum. It’s the finish that they chose to go with of each that makes the difference in the visible scratches. And there are trade offs to both. The matte finish of the aluminum on the 8 does hide scratches very well but, and anyone that has held any phone with a finish like this can attest, it can be quite slippery in the hand. The shiny finish on the X is a bit more grippy, but it’s trade off is more visible scratching. Apple could have done the same matte finish to the stainless to hide scratches, but it would have been just as slippery as the other iPhones. It’s debatable as to which is better, but on the plus side, the silver iPhone X can be polished to remove scratches (I don’t believe you can polish the space gray version as it may remove the color...though a polished stainless edge on the dark version might actually look pretty cool lol) Anyways lol, if you do go to polish them just be very careful to not use too much polishing compound and clog the ports and mic/speaker grills (any compound used for stainless steel will work) Hope this helps!

Your headache is because of the PWM used to control the screen brightness on the iPhone X. It causes a flicker that you won’t notice but that strains your eyes and gives you a headache.
The reason for your headache is probably because OLED uses PWM to adjust its brightness, it could be harmful to eyes and causing headache especially at low brightness
Touch ID is surely more secure than Face ID. No one has identical finger prints but faces have similarities. And some phones are unlocking on Face ID from photos of the user.

As far as I've heard, the OLED display on the X uses Pulse Width Modulation to turn down the brightness. If that is true it makes perfect sense why some people would get a bit of a headache if you're looking at the screen for to long, especially at night when the brightness is turned down. Basically, it turns the screen on and off faster that the eye can initially see, but staring at it for too long can make some people notice something, like strained eyes or headaches.

I am also an iPhone 8 Plus kind of guy! If removes Touch ID from next year’s line, I’ll hold onto it for another year or two. I love the bigger screen on it.

My experience of the face ID is very different to yours, for my the tech is almost flawless......I never really have any problems with the phone not recognising my face
I went from a iPhone 7 plus to a note 8 (I'm not a fan girl so don't care about android vs iOS crap). The screen is beautiful but like you I found the thinner designer harder to type and palm rejection because of a lack of bezels. So for this reason I'm selling and getting a iPhone 8 plus (or even a iPhone 7 plus is the price is decent enough). Just miss those bezels and is the reason why I personally won't even consider a iPhone x. I'm hoping that with enough people wanting touch id and bezels that apple will keep a old style version going like they did with the iPhone se

I don’t understand the point in spending $800+ on an iPhone 8+ for such a stale and outdated design 4 years in the making. That huge surfboard look is one of the ugliest iPhones ever. I was surprised by your comment that the LCD was easier on the eyes when reading at night as I was thinking that would be a certain benefit of the oled. So do you typically read at night with white screen black letters or black screen white letters and does that make a difference?
Yes stainless steel is easy to scratch on iPhone X . There are many famous TH-camrs who showed it . There is a trick to do . If you want sell your iPhone X in future or now ... You can buy polish "cream" and polish your iPhone to remove all scratches . It works perfectly ...however don't do it Everytime because polishing is removing fine layer of stainless steel and probably some protection from it (you know phone is chemicaly treated in production line and by polishing you are removing it)
I just switched from Note 8 to iPhone 8+, because I bought MacBook Pro so it's easier to connect my phone to my laptop. at first I doubt about the phone, but after I used it for couple days I really like it. the battery on iPhone 8+ plus is AMAZING. mostly my stand bye time is about 20 hours and the usage time is 6 - 7 hours. even though I miss the stylus pen on Note 8, but still love my iPhone 8+.

You complain about the one handed usability of the X, what about the 8+? iPhone X build quality>iPhone 8+ build quality. You agreed, yet complain about the X’s stainless steel micro scratching even with a case on, while praising the aluminum on the 8+. FaceID>TouchID You’re right FaceID is maybe not as fail proof as TouchID (90% accuracy vs 95% accuracy), but it’s also way more seamless and natural feeling and takes 0 effort other than making sure the X is far enough away from your face when in bed. Other than that, I much prefer the natural feeling methodology of looking at your phone to unlock since you’re already looking at it than proactively finding the sensor to place your fingertips. Gesture navigation>Home button Feels much more fluid and immersive. Plain and simple it’s more fun to use. IMO both are intuitive, it’s just that people are more used to the home button. FYI the iPhone X has f/2.4 telescopic lens and OIS, and the iPhone 8+ has f/2.8 and no OIS. They don’t use the same camera, the iPhone X telescopic lens should take steadier and brighter low light shots.

The X and 8+ are essentially the same thing, it’s just whether you want Face ID or Touch ID.

A forever android high end smartphones user here, I just got the 8plus red 256gb as a gift and started using it two weeks ago, still getting used to things with it but what has made me keep using it is the fact that I get better signal in places I was never able to with all the android phones I've used so far (coming from a note 9 and pixel 2xL) as main most recent devices I used on the daily basis, some things I don't like about it but they aren't game changers, battery life is good which to me is a solid reason to like a phone and I have to say, this red color looks just amazing, I'm a happy android user with this iphone for now, the transition was really easy with all my Google apps and services btw.
Great video. I returned my X for the 8 plus. Hated it. The screen is narrower than the plus and hated the notch so much. If Apple is going to get rid of the home button I’m glad I have the 8 plus as I won’t be buying one without.
Agree 100%. Just ordered 8 plus, after 3 years with 7 plus. 8 plus 128 gb. $599.00. Great part is I paid $750.00 for 7 plus. Only reason getting 8 plus is I can no longer hear caller on. Hate the notch. Finger print just so much easier the Face ID. One step

Also should've made it so when you hard press the bottom of the screen while it's off, it turns on like a home button. The S8/Note 8 has that and I can't believe no other major phones have done it

Got my iPhone 8 Plus today. I'm in love with the phone.
Maybe because i upgraded from an iPhone 6 plus.
You find LCD better in low light because it doesn't use PWM (basically the only solution for manufacturers to control lower brightness on OLED panels) to dim the display. It makes the display flicker which causes eye strain.
Nick I had originally upgraded to the iPhone X but after Just a few days I had realized this myself especially when watching videos in landscape. The X might be taller in height but the width of the plus iPhones still make it a better screen!!! I exchanged my X for an 8 plus after a week and don’t regret it at all!!

When you drop iPhone 8 Plus and X from the same height on their sides, tell me which one would be easier to fix? The aluminum with holes in it, or the X with few scratches, that get off with the polish paste and microfiber cloth.

I switched from Android to iPhone in September. My first iPhone is the 8 Plus. The reason I chose the 8 Plus over the X was that I knew there would be some of the bumps in the road that you mentioned and I figured I would give Apple a year to work on those and I would get the next generation of X this year. Personally, having iPhone 8 Plus as my first iPhone was a great choice! I am very happy with everything. The experience blows away the 8 years I spent on Android. Everything just works. iMessage is the texting app I had been searching for since there is no Android equivalent. I just love the whole seamless experience. I love the 8 Plus camera. I love the huge screen. It fits my huge hands perfectly. I couldn't be happier.

i'm not giving up to my 8+ because of the touch ID, size and design. overall the 8+ covers everything you need on a phone. besides the cameras placed vertically looks ugly as hell to me.

Some viewers may have gotten the wrong impressions about the scratching so let me try to clarify if I may.
Yes the stainless steel is a harder metal than the aluminum. It’s the finish that they chose to go with of each that makes the difference in the visible scratches. And there are trade offs to both.
The matte finish of the aluminum on the 8 does hide scratches very well but, and anyone that has held any phone with a finish like this can attest, it can be quite slippery in the hand.
The shiny finish on the X is a bit more grippy, but it’s trade off is more visible scratching.
Apple could have done the same matte finish to the stainless to hide scratches, but it would have been just as slippery as the other iPhones.
It’s debatable as to which is better, but on the plus side, the silver iPhone X can be polished to remove scratches (I don’t believe you can polish the space gray version as it may remove the color...though a polished stainless edge on the dark version might actually look pretty cool lol)
Anyways lol, if you do go to polish them just be very careful to not use too much polishing compound and clog the ports and mic/speaker grills (any compound used for stainless steel will work)

Your headache is because of the PWM used to control the screen brightness on the iPhone X. It causes a flicker that you won’t notice but that strains your eyes and gives you a headache.
I miss the metal back on the 7 plus.

Actually, the One Plus 5t is faster at face unlock than the iPhone X. But the Iphone X is more secure.

The reason for your headache is probably because OLED uses PWM to adjust its brightness, it could be harmful to eyes and causing headache especially at low brightness

Touch ID is surely more secure than Face ID. No one has identical finger prints but faces have similarities. And some phones are unlocking on Face ID from photos of the user.

The reachability performed better on your X (2nd try) than it did on your 8 (4th try).
As far as I've heard, the OLED display on the X uses Pulse Width Modulation to turn down the brightness.
If that is true it makes perfect sense why some people would get a bit of a headache if you're looking at the screen for to long, especially at night when the brightness is turned down.
Basically, it turns the screen on and off faster that the eye can initially see, but staring at it for too long can make some people notice something, like strained eyes or headaches.

My experience of the face ID is very different to yours, for my the tech is almost flawless......I never really have any problems with the phone not recognising my face

I went from a iPhone 7 plus to a note 8 (I'm not a fan girl so don't care about android vs iOS crap).
The screen is beautiful but like you I found the thinner designer harder to type and palm rejection because of a lack of bezels. So for this reason I'm selling and getting a iPhone 8 plus (or even a iPhone 7 plus is the price is decent enough).
Just miss those bezels and is the reason why I personally won't even consider a iPhone x.
I'm hoping that with enough people wanting touch id and bezels that apple will keep a old style version going like they did with the iPhone se

Would totally agree I have 6s but have been on X and 8 plus plenty of times and the display is just wider and the notch makes me cringe 😭 also I hate the tacky looking sides but with the 8/8 plus I love the gold colour my favourite since rose gold 😛.

I was surprised by your comment that the LCD was easier on the eyes when reading at night as I was thinking that would be a certain benefit of the oled. So do you typically read at night with white screen black letters or black screen white letters and does that make a difference?

Yes stainless steel is easy to scratch on iPhone X . There are many famous TH-camrs who showed it . There is a trick to do . If you want sell your iPhone X in future or now ... You can buy polish "cream" and polish your iPhone to remove all scratches . It works perfectly ...however don't do it Everytime because polishing is removing fine layer of stainless steel and probably some protection from it (you know phone is chemicaly treated in production line and by polishing you are removing it)

I just switched from Note 8 to iPhone 8+, because I bought MacBook Pro so it's easier to connect my phone to my laptop. at first I doubt about the phone, but after I used it for couple days I really like it. the battery on iPhone 8+ plus is AMAZING. mostly my stand bye time is about 20 hours and the usage time is 6 - 7 hours. even though I miss the stylus pen on Note 8, but still love my iPhone 8+.

OLED>LCD the contrast ratio difference is easily discernible. OLED has more *pop* and is more beautiful at least to me. I don’t have issues with the OLED flicker that’s inherent in the technology.
Thinner Bezels>Thicker Bezels the 8+ is an unwieldy, cumbersome son of a bitch. You complain about the one handed usability of the X, what about the 8+?
iPhone X build quality>iPhone 8+ build quality. You agreed, yet complain about the X’s stainless steel micro scratching even with a case on, while praising the aluminum on the 8+.
FaceID>TouchID You’re right FaceID is maybe not as fail proof as TouchID (90% accuracy vs 95% accuracy), but it’s also way more seamless and natural feeling and takes 0 effort other than making sure the X is far enough away from your face when in bed. Other than that, I much prefer the natural feeling methodology of looking at your phone to unlock since you’re already looking at it than proactively finding the sensor to place your fingertips.
Gesture navigation>Home button Feels much more fluid and immersive. Plain and simple it’s more fun to use. IMO both are intuitive, it’s just that people are more used to the home button.
FYI the iPhone X has f/2.4 telescopic lens and OIS, and the iPhone 8+ has f/2.8 and no OIS. They don’t use the same camera, the iPhone X telescopic lens should take steadier and brighter low light shots.

I’m going to upgrade soon and I can’t help but feel like 8+ is the way to go. Not a fan of the notch nor do I care for Face ID. I’m curious to see what Apple will release this year. If it’s just a bigger iPhone X then the 8+ is the choice for sure.
