I cannot understand why brother Yahya was told not to imitate Sheikh Maahir Al-Muaiqly, who has one of the most beautiful Qur'an recitations I have ever heard!

I think it’s cause it’s difficult for beginners to copy when trying to learn tajweed
Idk but my guess is because he’s getting too ahead of himself when he hasn’t mastered the basics
I think it's because you need to perfect tajweed first. Tajweed is fardh but beautifying is not, and if you beautify but lose focus on tajweed, this could lead to major problems including changing the meaning of the Qur'an
Because in Tajweed courses and for hifz students these shaikhs shaikh minshawi and Al husari is must that's whay shaikh yahya's teacher said don't copy Al maikili

many of my peers are learning Tajweed, and so many of our teachers tell us to not beautify our voice, and it just bothers me sometimes… does somebody have a decent answer as to why we should not do it as beginners?
I don't know
I memorized juz 29 easy just because of the voice of a reciter alhamdulillah.. if you ever wish to have some good reciter to listen to search for abdallah humeid. His recitations stick in your mind even if you repeat the verse few times. It worked for me but idk for others.
So you can nail the tajweed first
I would think to learn and perfect the tajweed first, as that is more important than beautifying your voice, especially in a class setting. There is the chance that a person will focus on their voice and neglect the pronunciation and tajweed, and even at times, the meaning of what they're reciting.
Because in beautifying recitation sometimes can go wrong in tajweed such as Madd (prolongation) of some harakas that are either shorter or longer to which some of us listeners don't be able to distinguish it yet because beginners. Qari sh. Hushary and Minshawy are for beginner friendly who starting to learn makhraj and soft and madd etc.
