- One Facebook I watched a video of a hunter shooting 90m at a 122cm face. His results were amazing. I discuss if this is true reflection of what you can expect. I discuss if results you see is what counts or is it the hard work you put in to achieve results what matters.
I discuss members of the State junior team about to compete in the National Championships. I discuss their dedication and hard work they have put in and if it matters if they win.

What a absolute pleasure to hear about kids having a passion and dedication to their sport. In today's time's of internet and social media, for kids to be spending time outdoors, exercising, socializing making life long friends...thats what's life's about. Good for you Steve, keep encouraging them to have fun and keep improving . And that goes for all of us.
This is a great point. Thanks to the rise of TAC style events in the US, it seems like every archery TH-camr can confidently shoot good groups out to 100+ meters everyday of the week.

I watched that guys video and he explicitly said that was an unusual score. And he doesn’t do it every time. Individuals in any activity can be off the charts. Some are just accomplished naturally. This man is a very dedicated archer. With only four years under his belt he is very very accomplished. Apparently self taught from videos and practice. This shows one CAN become a very good, if not excellent, archer if you have the drive/ dream. Simply enjoying shooting is a big factor for many. It’s part of the human psyche to get and see gratifying whatever. Like an arrow hitting exactly where you want. Or group of arrows all touching. It’s instant gratification in a way. Part of the drive archers experience.
We are doing something similar at my club. We just mix the bow types in the teams.
One longbow, one recurve, and one compound at each team.
One arrow per archer, and then we go on a 24 targets 3D course. 2 teams go together and compete against each other. We are setting up the teams to be as equal as possible, and we have so much fun.
I went away to a large archery match a few years ago, when I discussed my trip with friends they commented that you must be really good to go to a match that big.
I said no I’m not that good I’m just an average recreational archer, I just want to participate and get the experience of a big match, I also said I may well come dead last but that’s OK because I want the experience of having a go.
As things turned out I got really sick the day I arrived and became a spectator.
I was disappointed not to compete, however, I still felt satisfaction from being there.

I've been doing archery and bowhunting since the 70's, my girlfriend (non archery/hunting) and I watch archery and bowhunting lots on youtube. I made the comment the other day that if "so and so" bowhunter could honestly shoot like that, they would win every archery competition in the world. It sets unrealistic expectations for young people I'd guess....shame really. Thanks for saying that. I see George III is adopting your long standing advice to just shoot more. Cheers Steven.
.....when you see the actual hunting shot placement....you quickly call bullshit....there's a reason DuD dissables the comments on his hunting video's ;)
Your solar water mat is lifting off the roof
On a TH-cam channel which shall remain nameless, the archer was demonstrating the effects of a plunger on arrow flight. In establishing a baseline, he quickly hit 4 tens and one 9 in rapid succession with a barebow. He made it look easy. Never saw him before. Was suspicious that editing was at work.
Brilliant stuff...hats off to you ! Why do you not flinch with the click ..but hate the click of the release withe compound?
The recurve clicker tells you to let go.
The compound release click tells you its almost about to shoot, so you flinch when it clicks.
I hate the compound release click too so I reverse the moon so it doesnt.

You can't apply what you think is right to other people just because it's what you want to do. Let others make their own choices and run their own race. I very much dislike people who criticise the actions of others because it's not how they do things.
Does Taylor worth still shoot? Do a video on bow jumping (see coach Kim) from Korea. See if you can get your riser to jump out of your hand on release. Even try to copy Choi me Son from korea.
I get your message. the guy might have shot a one of great group at 90m, but can he repeat it. I've got some amazing 5shot groups I could share, but I just can't string enough groups together!
I see a title that doesn't make any sense.
So many years ago the six clubs in our area agreed in team events names were drawn from a box. This leveled the playing field to a great extent. If the draw resulted in what w considered a stacked team at least one name was put back into the box. There were no prizes etc nor money for the highest score team. They just won. Simple. The good thing was we had good people that would help each other with their knowledge. This can and did help newer less experienced shooters pick up some tips of every kind. These were all 3-d events. I’ve seen people have the best day and shoot a PB BECAUSE they were shooting with an accomplished archer. It was literally “ one big family “ of archers. Sadly, those days are gone. Because of lazy people these clubs ALL are no more. The reality of so many that want and wait for others to do all the work in what goes into maintaining a club and range.
I always ask if it's for the love of archery or the love of computation, Myself I just love to shoot to try being the best that I can be (for myself)
Glad to see you healthy, looking good. Your philosophy of effort, while respectable, does not always equate to better performance in top levels. You are living proof of that. You have been shooting your whole life, yet struggle to shoot 300's Vegas target. Not because you don't shoot, rather because your skill is not at that level. Might be technical related (you don't 'believe' in tuning) or physical, but those are just the facts. If you have played a sport at a top/professional level (I have), then you would understand. Talent plays a huge factor....
OTOH, name all those shooters out there banging out 300's every time and topping the podium everywhere they go who also own and themselves personally manage probably the biggest archery business in their state. Full time. No breaks (except maybe for bypass surgery). Precious few, you will find. Is Stephen's "struggling" performance "Technical" related? Well, to take one example: Terry Ragsdale, perhaps the greatest archer of all time, didn't "believe" in tuning either, nor did his brother Toby or his dad. So doubtful. "Talent" related? Ask any of those 300 every time shooters I mentioned earlier how they weigh talent vs dedication, fun and hard work. You might be surprised at their answers. Or maybe you might not. Either way, I wouldn't poo poo effort and not worrying excessively about your equipment instead of your shot. Many better than you and I got that way by exactly those means.....

So a guy post his best group of the day caught on camera and you want to extrapolate that for a full round to compare world records. Folks don’t post mediocre or worse shooting on TH-cam expecting to impress people. No, they post their best. Is your assertion that the best archers in the world haven’t shot a 59 or a 60 on any given end at that distance? This guy makes no claim that he could do that every time or average a 59 end for a full round. I think you are being disingenuous here. You imply that this fellow hasn’t put in the time or is being dishonest about his video when you really do not know. Some may call that slander.
I also disagree with your point about people watching those videos. If it generates interest in archery, then folks find out real quick that it takes lots of practice and if they want to shoot like the average bloke no one has heard of, lots of time and effort are required.
I do appreciate what you do for the sport and the teams you’re involved with. Good shooting.
