    Lightnin’ recorded this on July 26, 1961 at my grandfather Bill Holford’s ACA Studios in Houston. That’s my grandpa talking at the beginning. ❤️ He engineered this recording and a lot of Lightnin’s other work, too.

    The root, the source, more records by Lightning in Jimi Hendrix collection than any other. The challenge in blues is to do something new within the form and no one did it better than Sam" Lightnin'" Hopkins.

    I wonder if this is where Humble Pie came up with 30 Days in the hole. Steve Marriott was a blues fanatic, and great blues singer.

    • @trainwreck8355
      @trainwreck8355 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I posted that exact comment online somewhere.Steve Marriott was a blues fanatic. My prick head of a cousin was a roady for Humble Pie for 2-3 years. When we used to get along he showed me pictures of Steve and himself. Told me what a great guy Steve was to him. Marriott left The SmallFaces in 68 and joined Peter Frampton to create Humble Pie. The band toured Ameria constantly for three years before the bands most successful album Rockin the Filmore was released. The years of touring America took there toll on Marriott. He was drinking heavily and had developed a bad coke habit. In 75 after Mick Taylor left the Stones Marriott was considered along with many others for Taylor's spot. Jagger was so worried about being upstaged he nixed everybody but Ron Woods who Jagger thought of no threat to himself. and Richards didn't feel threatened either.In 78 Marriott found out he owed 100,000 in back taxes from the H.P. days and was rumored to resorting to returning bottles for money.The end of his short life came in 91. After returning home from the US after recording a failed album with Frampton, Marriott died after drinking a considerable amount of alcohol and falling asleep after lighting a cigarette. His blood was found to have contained valium, alcohol, and cocaine. It was a very sad way for such a talented musician to die. Peace.

      @@trainwreck8355 Steve Marriott was only briefly considered but ruled out quickly because of his substance abuse problem,,,(Mick, Charlie, & Bill were dealing with Keith's issues & were not going to have another 'problem' on their hands),,,
      The Stones used Black & Blue as a "proving ground" for those who made the short list,,,
      Harvey Mandel, Wayne Perkins, Ronnie Wood were given a 'try out',,,
      Ronnie had a big advantage being the only Brit of the 3, & having worked with the Stones on It's Only Rock n Roll, he was the natural choice; plus Ronnie was friends with the Stones having known them for many years,,,

      @21stcenturyschizoman18 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@exxumma How late to reply and wrong you are. The R.S's still had drug issues of their own. In fact in late 73 when Taylor felt like he wasn't on par with the other members of the band, they were banned from Japan and almost Australia due to their heroin problems. Jagger nixed Marriott because Jagger knew he'd be upstaged by the best white blues singer and front man, unlike yes boy Woods who was relegated to his being in the rear except for the sickening tongue/guitar duets. Luckily Marriott wasn't a member for the B+B album which sucked excepept for Fool to Cry which sounded like old Stones material. I don't usually respond to such aged comments, just wanted to hip you to what actually occurred.

    • @exxumma

      @@21stcenturyschizoman18 U ignore the fact that Ronnie had worked with them already, on It's Only RnR,,,and knew each other since teens or early 20's,,,if U think Fool to Cry was their best on B&B, then U know nothing about music, Hey Negrita best track! followed by Hand of Fate, Melody, Memory Motel,,,Fool to Cry was Jagger experimenting with the highest falsetto he has ever used (never used it again),,,obviously U are not a musician, otherwise U would know this,,,,but no sense arguing with someone who doesnt know,,,,,just enjoy their music

    Fellow Hopkins fans, maybe you can help me out. I've been looking high and low for a song by Lightning about him waking up in some county jail.And he's getting sick of waking up in county after nights of drinking. This is the closest one I've found to the one I'me looking for. If anybody has an idea of what it might be, please leave me a reply. And while were looking for music, I'm also trying to find an older album of Lightnings that has a bright florescent green front, him wearing sun glasses w/ a cigarette hanging out his mouth and a pork-pie hat.The one he's wearing has a bright orange color. It's a changed cover that just says Lightning on an angle across the front. It also has the song My starter won't start this morning. I'd be much obliged for help on either.
