Some people might think these tests aren't that difficult, but I've had to complete the firefighter CPAT for the past several years and while it looks like an easy test, it's rather strenuous.

Literally Shitler nah, marine corps bootcamp was harder, and bootcamp wasn't even physically challenging lmao. ITB on the other hand, hiking everywhere, running everywhere with full kit and weapon, that was hard

All these people commenting about how they could easily pass the tryouts are probably the ones that would fail.
Any decent athlete could propably pass the test but it's not easy being a po full time and being a decent athlete
Pro Go this is probably one of thee most accurate comments. I have a few friends that are police officers. 10-12 hr shifts are no joke. Getting into the gym after that is probably not very easy either. The challenges legitimately were not that difficult for people that have the time (& genetics) to develop their bodies to do these things efficiently. We're all different.

In all honesty, the water section was easier than what I had to do at 16 to be a lifeguard.

as a former army infantryman, im watching this first half of this assessment and im like "meh, doesnt seem TOO difficult"....once they hit the gym and he said "42 pushups in 1 minute", I instantly flip flopped as the Army PT test consist of 42 pushups in double that time. Not only that, but the cadre all throwing a fist under the candidate to insure hes even doing a proper push up also shows how good of an assessment this is. So when they said this is one of the most toughest SWAT schools to get into, I certainly believe that. You most certainly have to come to this assessment prepared both physically and mentally. Their mentality on the "attention to detail" is excellent. So much as not racking back the shotgun when requested to, on an exercise that seemed to have quite a bit of instructions to be done quickly and within a certain timeframe is great. That definitely will simulate going through the motions of a drill under stress. Being phsyically fatigued AND also needing to maintain all the proper instructions given and preform them. I like that. Preforming the wall climb NOT to prove you can climb a wall, but to show you can follow direct instructions also very good. Then after that, they have to take their duty pistol, fatigued as shit, and fire effectively at 25 yards. Which isnt easy even during a regular, relaxed, range day with iron sights. This is definitely weeding out the weak from the best.

I graduated City of Miami SWAT school back in 1989. Lt Shepard, Sgt Downey...I remember you guys. I think I was the only Federal Officer to graduate, up to that time.

I'm in the Turlock Police Explorer program in California and I would just like to say, thank you for your hard work as a police officer and keeping the community safe. Plus, I have learned a lot of stuff about being a police officer and I also love your drive alongs with other police officers.

Interesting to see the different approaches between SWAT schools and countries. For instance, in France, the GIGN is completely different - although that's normal because it's a branch of the Gendarmerie which is itself a branch of the military forces, so the GIGN occupy the role of elite SWAT and special ops for hostage rescue. But it's interesting to see different philosophies. For instance, in GIGN training you're given as many chances as you can take to complete a task as long as you don't break down to the point where you could harm your health seriously, at which point you are forced to quit. They tell slower candidates that they can quit at any moment repeatedly. But you have to serve 5 years as a gendarme before you can try out.
Also, 7 people have been killed so far in the training... yes, they train with real bullets... I know, that is crazy. Anyway, this is pretty impressive for a try out. Especially the gym portion - 25 pounds over your bodyweight pull-ups are insane! I liked the fast pace and the zero tolerance policy. Also the fact that the candidate we're all perfectly aware of the requirements and all ready. Too many times candidate who are not ready waste instructors' time, especially in the army.

I saw 2 things that weren't pointed out, one of the candidates that went through the exercise with the shotgun 1) set the weapon on th deck which is a big no and 2) when setting the weapon on the deck, pointed it straight towards the S.W.A.T instructor. That shows disregard for the weapon and the safety of those around it. 1st Weapon Safety Rule... Treat every weapon as if it were loaded

This is why SWAT should and has so much respect and authority
To get on the training team for Special Forces in the national guard: conduct the Army APFT and score a minimum of 70 in each event with a total score of 240/300 in the 17-21 age bracket: 2:00 Pushups: 49 2:00 situps: 59 2 Mile run: 15:12. perform at least 6 dead-hang pullups. successfully climb a 30' rope and decend in a controlled manner. complete a 5 mile run in under 40 minutes. complete a 12 mile ruck in under 3 hours with a 50 pound pack not including water weight.
Note the training team's purpose is to prepare candidates for SFAS, special forces assessment and selection. To get selected, you have to meet the minimum standards shown above... but you likely wont get selected. maxing out your PT test (72 pushups, 78 situps and a 13:00 2 miles) mid 30's 5 mile run as well as a 12 mile ruck in under 2.5 hours is more of the standard.
Now this qualification is a challenge. Unlike most big city tryouts, this one actually tests your metal.

I personally have done high risk stops when I was an explorer at a PD in the Denver metro area, and I know a lot of people always wonder why cops draw their weapons on traffic stops even when the driver has no weapon. I want to go see this. I met some of these guys on police day several years ago and they were super. Also fit as hell.
This is pretty typical of some combat PT in the army but in this they include all these small steps that require attention to detail. Not to mention, all of these events are basically back to back. These might look somewhat difficult, but back to back makes these much harder than they look. That being said, If you have ever been to Army Ranger or Army Special Forces selection, you could pass this pretty easily.
It seems that you guys have things allot different than we have here in Finland. To become a police officer here demands 2,5 years of training and tryouts are hard. To become Swat member (here it's called Bear Squad)you need to pass tests and 1 year extra training. Our Bear Squad operates with Finnish Border Guard and army.

A fellow security officer of mine said in Jamaica he was on SWAT but before that he was in a 3 day firefight and backup was taking fire and the ground was so hot part of his elbow skin pealed off.

If the candidate is DQ'd from the SWAT tryout, can He/She try out again after a certain period of time??

Is there a limit to the number of times you DQ? As in, if you DQ not just the first time but the second and following times, is there a limit at which point SWAT will say "Sorry, you're just not cut out for this"?
