Thanks for this video! Per Aspera and Interstellar Space: Genesis are already on my wishlist. I'd also add Distant Worlds 2 to the list, which I would definitely consider a hidden gem.
I loved this list. Per Aspera is one of my favorites 😍. The story is lovely and the gameplay is excellent. It really makes yoy think about some things with A.I. popping up everywhere
I think you would be the perfect person to ask. I'm an ex X4 Player; my favorite part of that game was the early game just bumming around the Asteroids and farming Crystals, but as you know your soon steered into forming a mining empire and saving the galaxy, not my cup of tea. I wish it was more truly a sandbox, but what really broke the deal for me was not so much running the mining company, but when I realized that the suicidal behavior of my subordinate ships was intended by the Devs. Not being able to order ships to do things and expect those orders to be executed was just tooo frustrating. So could you recommend something like? A Sandbox where I can stick to my single seater and just mine, explore, and maybe enjoy some great Art.
i just want a good story based/rpg space game. played all the mass effects, played the outer worlds, hated starfield. im just bored of directionless space sandboxes.
Starport Gemini is a good game if you wanted an rpg like space game. Idk how good the story is but it is story driven. I've only played the second one, but a third is put now I believe.
@@RSpracticalshooting lol ya, i don't think it had planet exploration. But again, I've never played the third. They are a little older but still great rpg ship games
Wow, Interstellar Pilot reminds me a TON of the obscure Space Empires spinoff RPG, StarFury. Same single-plane mechanics, same open-ended world. I’m actually intrigued!
Thanks for the ideas and the explanations. I'm always looking for new and novel games, particularly space, strategy, X4, and building sims, so I was pleased to find Per Aspera, a game I had missed on Steam previously. It seems to scratch those itches, but I'm curious to know about the DLCs: are they worth getting/playing and what changes do they make to the base game? PS. I appreciate your channel: it's one of the better review channels I watch because you provide sufficient information and visuals to help me decide whether to look deeper into a game.
Well - Those are nice games and I will give them a try. For now, however I have a few games on my list to play first. In no particular order they are: Chorus, Everspace 2 and the new upcoming improvements (7.0) and DLC (Timelines) for X4: Foundations (I played this series since the very first X-Beond The Frontier released in 1999). So thanks for the suggestions. I will certainly take a look at them in the nearby future.
Nice list, years ago I was giving streaming a shot, and Last Federation: Lost Technologies (DLC) was one of the 1st things I played / reviewed, it's a really cool concept, it borrows some of the semi-turn based combat that games like Battlestar Galactica Deadlock have utilized, but all the while the game still feels very cinematic and arcadey, I also love that you're basically playing as a race of sentient space faring hydras. Interstellar Pilot 2 looks really promising, the 2d plane worked really well for the 1st Rebel Galaxy which also plays like a dream on Steam Deck, so I'd love another Deck game that lets me fly turret-laden capital ships.
Thanks for sharing! Perhaps you should get back into it! Interstellar Pilot 2 is also 0.99c so balanced with price its a nice little option despite no recent updates.
When will space games offer a main galaxy map that is fully 3D?! This would add a ton of features just by being 3D. So, you start off the game somewhere in the middle of the known galaxy and as your technology gets better your sphere of awareness massively increases. You can be attacked from any direction. Plus, neutral zones can be achieved but they are much more complex. Each Solar system can build up to 3 colonies per turn. In this game sensors would be crucial, and it would matter how you built your empire around a neighbors, it might start to surround them forcing them to fight.
Per Aspera was a delight that I stumbled on quite by accident years ago. I love games where you can truly feel the impact of what you do and spreading across an entire planet and terraforming it whole delivers that. And it takes a long time too. Each stage feels earned. You don't just place one building and instantly have forests sprouting across the whole planet. Algae, moss and more advanced plantlife has to spread slowly and I love watching that spread. I love just watching the water spread across the surface. I also greatly enjoy AMI's monologuing in story mode. Though sandbox is great after you've played the story a few times, I miss hearing her voice and her musings about Mars and humans. One criticism is the Blue Mars DLC. Blue Mars adds aquatic buildings which is extremely useful when more than half of Mars is ocean or lakes and lots of valuable resources are underwater. It should really be a part of the base game.
Given that Steam has been a known health risk for some people since late 2019 (getting close to 5 years now), it's probably worth including links to GOG for Per Aspera and The Last Federation. Unfortunately, the other games are all (for now) exclusive to Steam on PC, which is a shame.
@@LTGamingTH-cam Still seems weird to have an early access marked game and then no updates for 1.5 years. If it was on 2.0 and "finished" why would it be in early access anyways?
@@warlordwossman5722 it does seem odd its in Early Access. Almost like they left it open for the future. I guess something to balance with the very low price.
Interstellar Space Genesis is a nice game, especially with its DLCs that make it even better. I will definitely check out the other ones in that list, thanks!
If someone likes Per Aspera then I can recommend Surviving Mars - it's not exactly the same but I had a ton of fun with this title. The good old Freelancer is also a gem 😁
Thanks 👍. Your videos always seem to be very 'Steam-centric' though and not all of us like and/or use Steam. There are dozens and dozens of space games on GOG too. Just saying. 😊
Hmmm..space games. Master of Orion back in the 90's rocked. Galactic Civilizations was okay. The old Elite was great for it's time. The new Elite Dangerous isn't fun for me. Wing Commander! Star Wars: X Wing. Yeah. Stellaris is what I'm playing now. Pretty good but doesn't peg my fun meter.
i considered a steam deck recently. i told myself cost be darned. lets imagine i getting one free. am i interested. and only a handful of games i own work on it i learned. and only 1 i would wanna play on it. rest be to complex. steam deck is for kids and or basic games. that said it blows me away how much they cost sell for. but same for any smart phone. if it were up to me smart phones would never of taken off. most useless piles junk. lol

I think you just made my next list! Yeah Liberation is a really cool retro vibe :)
Nice list, Rebel Galaxy is also really fun and has an awesome soundtrack
Sadly, the soundtrack becomes repetitive very fast, given how it's just about a dozen songs or so.
