Always breaks my heart that she tried to die as Powder but she gets reborn as Jinx, this was her real baptism
Jinx (or Powder, in that moment) definitely tried to commit suicide. She pulled the pin from a grenade just lying there beside her.
yeah as we can see from earlier fights she could have easily attached it to Ekko if she wanted. putting it right next to her was intentional.
If you listen closely you can hear a metal clang before the explosion in ep7 which indicates Ekko knocked the grenade away just in time with his weapon saving Jinx life before jumping/being thrown off the bridge
yeah, echo was her only childhood friend. the way she says "oh look who it is, the boy savior!" really implies that silco convinced her that echo saved everyone but her. so when her only childhood friend wants to kill her; it's either she feels there's nothing left for her anymore, or she wants to respect his decision and finish the job he couldn't.
@@Bliss467 it does not imply silco had any influence on her opinion of ekko, ekko became leader of the firelights and tried to save everyone in the undercity but never tried to save her from herself (or silco, even though he doesn’t have the negative effect everyone assumes he has on her). She had just been lied to by omission from the one person she trusted and the people from her past abandoned her again which is why she felt the desire to give up
The way I heard it described by one of the show creators is that Jinx does not have a healthy aversion to death.
@@btgardener39 Yes, you can see that in other episodes as well. Even if she tries to dodge sometimes, she is completely reckless in fights, and in episodes 4 she's causally kicking away and flinging explosives over the edge in the last second. She could have died at any time but doesn't seem to care.
The fox and the wolf thing, said by Mel's mom, reminds me of Machiavelli's fox and lion analogy. Here, the wolves are the enemies. "The lion cannot protect himself from traps, and the fox cannot defend himself from wolves. One must therefore be a fox to recognize traps, and a lion to frighten wolves".
God, the angst between Cait and Vi. _I love it._ Vi conceding to the status quo, and Caitlyn doing her darnedest to convince her they can solve things *together.*
God, also that bed scene.
I love them, I just love them. ❤️
Caitvi is a thing of beauty and inspiration. I love that the creators did it all tastefully and delicately, it would have been so easy to mess up.
"She became his leg!?" His hand, actually, if that's straight up what happened. My wildly speculative theory is slightly different. The Hexcore didn't take the shimmer as "payment" the first time it changed Viktor's leg. It took his blood. The shimmer was there to stop Viktor from withering into a dried-out husk when the Hexcore altered him. However, the core "learned" from that what the transformation should be, so that it didn't kill him. It took Sky to do the same again, soaking her up in her entirety, leaving her body a pile of chemical ashes. However, before this, the Hexcore displayed no thought, judgement or independence, reacting purely as directed by the sequence of runes put into it. AFTER it consumed Sky, it does its first active judgement - not simply defending itself from Viktor, but PUNISHING him for turning against it. I think that in consuming Sky, it has learned what a will is, and built one for itself out of her. I don't KNOW this, nor do I have any real indication, but I think Sky will be the "voice" of the Hexcore, if it ever gains one, and her memories may live on inside of it. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the season 2 episodes starts with a flashback about Sky, in fact. I think they MAY do this, because it would be interesting and opens some pretty neat possible storylines.
Your theory makes sense and follows my own, in the major points at least.
According to the lore, Hextech cores were used to replace human brain, record memories, etc. Moreover, there is a robotic female person known as Grey Seer, who is the greatest fan of Victor, propaganding his ideas, and insisting that Victor is the new Messiah.
"before this, the Hexcore displayed no thought, judgement or independence, reacting purely as directed by the sequence of runes put into it."
It picked up a drop of Viktors blood without prompting, before this.
@@Hohum37 Amoeba consume nourishment without really displaying JUDGEMENT in the matter, though. That's more of a "that's accessible and I can get it and maybe I can eat it", rather than a deep consideration.
@@th3voice That's more than reacting purely as directed, but I can live with your modification of the theory. I like the thoughts about Sky especially.
Abi I just want to say that I love your reactions! Keep doing what you're doing, because you are awesome 😆
💜 thank you!
When Viktor drank the shimmer and used his blood the first time it gave him the leg. It looked to me he got more "greedy" after running out of shimmer.
That's when he cut the runes into himself and tried without shimmer. Sky tied to help him then and was disintegrated. It seems like each time a "sacrifice" is made the hextech becomes more organic in nature.
He got a functional leg, but was still sick so tried for more. And then on the second try Sky became the fuel for the transformation, oof
Pretty sure he still took shimmer the second time, but much like Silco with his eye, victor seemed to need regular "doses". skye had no shimmer in her, so she couldn't handle it.
At the very end you can see Jinx behind Caitlyn as her Shimmer eyes light up as she comes into focus. Not sure if you saw that Abi.
Yes thankfully Season 2 has been confirmed and is underway. I’ve been keeping up with the animators online! And it should come faster than Season 1 did because the kept the team together and they figured a lot out the first time.
PS. Shout out to them on their black characters! I love the designs. So well done 🙌🏾 ⚡️
I mean the real production only took 3 years and some pre production finding the cast and training the writers. It only took them 6 years because they had to pitch the ideas and get funding for the project which is a lengthy process that kills most ideas in the creative industry.
Also Riot invested in Fortiche so they have a beefed up team and resources. I just hope the key people stay the same, including the two directors (who are now in leadership positions AFAIK, but their signature directing style is an important ingredient of Arcane). I also hope the writers' room is largely the same too.
I know that two storyboard artists, who designed the most iconic scenes of Arcane, left Fortiche to found their own company. : (
In regards to the children working in the factory, you have to remember, when times were tough for us in the real world, before we had child labor laws, we too had children working in factories, often every abled bodied member of the family would do what they could to bring in money so that their family unit could survive, I fully imagine that's what's going on here, no part of me thinks these children are being forced to work here, odds are they were just making money in their normal job.. then suddenly out of no where some enforcers from Topside and two crazy armed people started tearing up the place, shooting the security and a kid... It's kind of the thing that Vi herself would have been against when she was younger and push to fight against topside for.
I don't like how Vi was written in this episode personally.. ..she's been out of Piltover's jail for what? Maybe two days, a jail that she was just tossed into to be forgotten, beaten an unknown number of times.. these things seem perfectly fine by Piltover standards, but suddenly she's looking to be the invading force herself.. yes it's against one of Silco's place, but still she of all should have known who would be in that factory. Even Benzo had a child (Ekko) working for him, most likely common place in the Underground.
I mean Skko was technically child labor as well, but most write it off as a cute apprenticeship
The game doesn't really get too much into the characters, but Riot has made plenty of animations and music videos to react to.
They are quite good, but nowhere near the quality and humanity of Arcane (just as a heads up). For game videos they are cool.
I’m looking forward to watching some of the music videos! Recommendations appreciated! (I plan to watch get jinxed)
@@turquoise839 Well some of the videos do dig into some of the characters' backstories. And almost all of them are top tier animation quality.
@@abi_corinne My highest recommendation for music videos would definitely be Jinxed as well as The Curse of the Sad Mummy.
It's hard to pick which cinematic to watch but I'd start with The Call.
Warriors, The Call and others like The Curse of the Sad Mummy or the one with Ekko (this one is very spoilery if you watch Arcane) and give insights on the champions.
Get Jinxed too, but it's not like something Riot would make nowadays.
SKy did not die until after Viktor's running scene at the docks. After he did that he went back to his lab to keep transforming his body it was during that attempt that Skye found him and died while trying to help him.
Silco is the largest employer in the undercity and labor laws don’t exist. Those kids are either orphans trying to make ends meet or their parents also work for Silco
"she became his leg???" hshshshshs I laughed so hard love your reactions
Your reactions are always wonderful.
I love Mel’s mom, Ambessa. She’s a very deliberate person. That first scene where she’s telling Mel to be both the Fox and the wolf and the next time you see her She’s being the very definition of a fox and a wolf!! I love to see it. The top energy she gives when she tasting the local cuisine. And then that scene with Jayce?! All slyness and showing of strength. She told the leader of a city his leadership was impotent and then got him so scared he started sweating and raring to go to war while naked. That’s some brass ovaries if I’ve ever seen them.
Like you said, Mel is nothing like her mother and in the maybe 10 mins you see her mother you truly realize just how much Mel is not the sly one we made her out to be. It’s such a great subversive twist.
This episode does such a great job of showing how dichotomous Silco really is. Like we’ve seen it, but never to this point. He cares for Jinx as his child but you realize he uses child labor to run his drug factory. You can sympathize with him but also hate him at the same time and damn if I never had that for a character.
Viktor got the leg the first time he used shimmer, and now he has a hand that used Skye as the sacrifice. Viktor knew that the body alone couldn’t sustain the transformation, it why he went down to Singed in the first place. Viktor got too greedy to be healed that he forwent his own knowledge and it cost Skye her life. He’s the one that’s been figuring out the hextech and if it could learn, how it treats living organisms and discards all of that when it’s benefiting him. What wild is looking back at it, the hextech has been showing us from the beginning that it learns and is growing. When viktor and Jayce first show heimerdinger the gemstone, the laser thing was moving by itself. They thought it was a kink to work out but it was following the poro. That subtleness, little things like that and how viktor saw that vision…oh this show is ridiculously good and lays such beautiful groundwork.
Can’t wait to see your reaction for the finale. That had me on the edge of my seat
I just figured that Sky disintegrated like the plants did because she had never had a dose of Shimmer
Jayce is a HIGHLY underrated character for cosplay, by the way. So, I greatly encourage Jayce cosplay.
Just a complicated story but Piltover Council deff is the ultimate catalysts for creating this tragic series of events.
I love how you understand that the show gets you all hyped up about the amazing fights, and then cuts out the music and says "Look at yourself: Enjoying violence! Shame on you--have you not been paying attention to one of the main themes of the show?? Violence only makes more problems!"
Want something else sad to know about Sky? It’s heavily implied she was the little girl who Viktor saw as a kid. One of the other kid’s called her Sky.
girl I think you missed the end 😂 I was expecting you to freak out at jinx Chillin in the corner as the steam lifted
2 different channels posted their reactions to Arcane today already but I'M STILL HERE LET'S GO
The doctor was pulling dead skin off his face when Silco walked in. He wasn't doing drugs.
22:50 - You may already answer this by the end of the video, but yes. We have another season coming though I doubt we will see it until 2023 at the earliest.
My favorite episode! Great reaction. You’re coming into your stride as a solo comentary reactor with your predictions
also it would be a great idea to NOT play leauge. The community is very toxic! Its much more healthy to admire the lore from afar~
Everyone keeps warning me about the game! I may just watch some walk throughs and enjoy it that way lol
Or play other League-related games to get more into the lore. I really enjoy Ruined King, which is a single-player RPG with solid turn-based combat, playing a party of LoL champions. (It has delightful voice acting and art.)
@@abi_corinne haha well it is pretty accurate and apart from some character designs and a few voice lines the game doesn't add anything to the story really.
there are tons of character trailers though, as well as music videos, and championship cinematics like the World Opening Ceremony 2021 which I highly encourage to watch if you liked arcane.
You're totally right. The Council has been very irresponsible with the management of the under city.
when viktor took shimmer he got the metal leg, but he still had more wrong with him so he tried to fix more and sky sadly paid the price
0:34 ekko has good timing, ha thats funny
Great reaction as always, I was feeling kinda sad but you made my day better. This episode is really good yet frustrating to see how everything keeps falling apart. I love Cait and Vi, poor Jinx and Sky indeed went FMAB this episode 😂
I think, in the moment she release the grenade, Jynx was ready to die. she was done. in her head her sister just left her again and she's been beat here by here childhood friend. I don't think her mission was a factor at that point. she was done.
Speaking about power (and here I am just giving my point of view) there's a feature that it is often forgotten, yet, since not remembering it makes it more sutile, it is one of the most dangerous, if not the most: the power of knowledge, veery integrated in our culture. Those who hold the power establish what is to be known and not known or taught, and how, so they manipulate the language (any type of communication) and adapt it to their interests. One of the most clear ones is History as a school subject (or not), or even Philosophy (in reality, any kind of subject). Why do they teach this matter? Why don't they teach those non-white women philosophers? Even in Feminism: Why don't they teach for example about communitarian feminism? Movies and cinema overall can also be a great source: Why does in many movies the protagonist start having little material resources and ends up achieving all their dreams because of the efforts? Maybe it is (and again, this is my opinion) because the elites want you to know/believe that you can achieve whatever you want and you only have to strive for it, and if you fail, that that is only your fault (that there is no social and historical structure behind). I once saw a documentary about a Chinese factory-city. One of the multiple foreign multinationals that are in China settled in that factory-city. The workers have to work endless hours, have to live there and have to consume there. A female worker was asked about her "job" and she said " I see the rest and think I am not productive enough so I have to strive more to be more competent". That's very sad, not even mentioning or taking into account the socioeconomic structure behind all of this. Also I must take into account that if she had complained about her conditions (moreover on TV) she would have surely suffered the consequences.
In the case of Arcane, we could talk about power over the concept of "evolution". According to many people from Piltover, evolution is related to "technological advance" (like many people think in our society-culture). However, I am sure that concept of evolution is multidimensional. In our society-culture, many would think that with technological advance comes more (global) interdepence.
Besides, although that conception of evolution is hegemonic, throughout History there have been cultures with different conceptions of evolution, and in some there hasn't been or isn't any.
This episode was good love the video ABI Nation stay motivated dream big 1 mill on the way
Remember it was Vi who mentioned Jinx to Jayce, the bargain with silco in episode 9 would have been different.
Did she finish the show or what is up with the spoilers ??
@@carbuneskinny5797 She probably did already, but still I don't like the casual spoiling in reaction comments.
Please stop making me cry again
oh I never thought of that, but yeah save it for the ep 9 video
2nd season is confirmed
Love it!
"Ekko has good timing". Ya don't even know. Lol
I know you had second doubts about Mel but if you going to Cosplay as an Arcane character it has to be Mel!!!!!!!!
Actually if silco didn't have thos kids a job they will die from starvation
Loved Arcane! Make sure you hit the like button please!
I see some similarities between Mel's mother and Silco. Both are quick to resort to violence, both are willing to harm children, and both have a daughter that they care about, even as they manipulate them.
Silco is kinda taking care of the kids, they all lost their parents on the war over the bridge.
Ninja? Mutant?... Teenage? Turtles?
I like to think that these are all kids left behind that Silco has taken in. It seems to be incredibly common for people like Silco and Vander to take in hopeless kids. Not just that, but all of these kids have to be loyal to Silco for a reason.
When Vi said "He knew what he signed up for" , These kids are volunteering - it's probably a privilege to work in those factories. They're probably earning good money for their families. Obviously it's wrong, but I don't think Silco is rounding these kids up and forcing them into labor. I think they want to work there because their other opportunities are just that bad. :(
Jay!! Arcane!!😁
Silco isnt responsible for the situation of those kids. Piltover is. At least he gives then an income
Counter example: Ekko. It matters how you lead, even if Piltover is the original oppressor. Silco is still a ruthless crime lord, and *is* responsible.
@@turquoise839 What Ekko is doing is cute. But Silco fights for the freedom of Zaun. Ekko doesnt have the power or reach Silco has for what he has done and dont forget all the people Silco save and pulled out of the dirt where they couldnt even breath. Like he said, he gave them purpuse, a glimose of life, of air
@@laverdad159 I'm not convinced that his notion of freedom is the same as actual freedom. Pulling up people only to make them serve your own goals is not a noble act. I don't see him suddenly transforming into a good leader with Zaun's independence.
@@turquoise839 I'm sure my friend Silco has saved a lot more lives than Vander.
In the opening scene of episode 1, Vander recklessly devised a plan of attack to do only harm, possibly resulting in the deaths of many parents and the orphaning of many of their children.
Silco wasn't even tied to Vander's plan, episode 3 says himself.
And then we see that Vander didn't even lift a hand for the underground city. He unleashed the underground city to a slow painful death.
At least, Silco did everything he did for the future of the people of Zaun, even if he did it in the wrong way.
At least kids don't work in toxic mines like they did in Silco, Vander, Benzo's time.
Silco is not forcing anyone to do anything. Except for Marcus, he's a filthy enforcer. Zaunites don't like enforcers.
Ekko is still a child, he won't want to see what Silco is trying to do because of the death of his father figure. He is trying to do good things with the group he leads, but he does not see the real truth.
The difference between Silco and Ekko is mountains.
Silco is the defensive side, not the attacking side.
That's the difference between Vander and Silco.
There are many who protect Silco and are loyal to the good of the underground city.
To kill those who hinder independence is to defend, not attack.
All defensive, including the Episode 4 Jinx scene and Episode 8 Violet and Jayce's attack.
Jinx has always chosen to attack by her own decisions. To please Silco.
Do not get into the main game, do play Team Fight Tactics or Legends of Runeterra however. Both are Riot games with characters from this show.
... Or Ruined King. Don't leave out my favorite. 🙂
7:25 hey, why do you think Mel is so petite?
Everyone who is into the game recommends against people playing the game, even if you liked Arcane. Apparently, fans have hard feelings about the game.
The Ruined King and Legends of Runeterra are much better for choices for people interested in the universe than LoL.
@@Khay-77 Agreed. Ruined King is an unexpectedly good RPG, and immerses you in the lore, helped by great voice acting. Hello JB Blanc and others. 🙂
(The Legends of Runeterra campaign is freaking hard after a while, I stopped mid-way even though I would like to continue.)
I'm sorry for the question but what is "minasan"?
Mina san - a friendly/casual "everyone" in Japanese
Means everyone in Japanese 💜
Ohhhhhh thank u!

"Vander would be proud." I dunno about that one.
U skipped Viktor's running scene ??? I`ll never forgive u for that !
And u didnt see Jinx at the end ! :)))

The worst part of league of legends is the game league of legends. Everything else is amazing.
