I have a headcanon that came to me after watching this. I don't know why I'm sharing but here it is
Now on the surface, Frisk grows older to the point that they are not even able to walk anymore. The monsters, although they do age, are still in far better shape and it is like they had hardly weakened at all. Frisk however is on their death bed, surrounded by the friends they had made over their life time (sans, undyne, toriel, papyrus, even flowey, etc.) As they are dying they are stuck with an old feeling, something that they always had but never needed since childhood. Determination, specifically the determination to live. So Frisk looks into the corner of the room, right over Sans shoulder, and sees a familiar button. Reset. They promised to never do a reset again, they gave their word, yet with shaky winkled hands Frisk reaches out to it and just before pressing it, whispers one thing, "I'm not ready to loose you guys yet" Sans is confused for a moment before shocks registers on his face as he tries to stop Frisk, the opposite of Flowey's wide understanding smirk, but it was too late. Frisk touches the button and like a dimmer light switch the past 50 years became nothing and once again Frisk is a child standing above yellow flowers with an invisible, red eyed companion back at their side.

I literally just realized the reason why Frisk and Sans were so happy at the end was because the Player finally decided to reset the game. Once the two saw the reset button glowing, they knew the player finally chose to reset.

5 years later and this song suddenly popped into my head again
This is the first Undertale related thing I ever saw and I knew Undertale was a thing but I didn't know the story or that it was a game or anything. This made me think that the story was entirely different and I love the art and just.. I really appreciate that this kept showing in my recommendations when I was younger. Because I finally clicked on it, I ended up making an undertale fandom account on Instagram. I met so many of my friends and my bestest friend that way. I always stop and think about how if you hadn't made this on your spare time and uploaded it, my life would be so different.
I wouldn't be the same person I am now. I wouldn't have made so many friends and stories and drawings and cringeworthy but important and lasting childhood memories. I know I'm a stranger to you but you're so much to me.

The reason why they're happy is because the Sans fight is like, really hard for a lot of people. After a while, they may get upset with losing and would naturally care less for the skeleton who had been the source of their frustration, in the moment anyways.
*Some people do feel bad when they actually realize what they did though, but are also, for the most part, relieved to have finished such a tough battle so they can continue the game and see the end after putting so much work in.
It's amazing how well this song fits Undertale... what even inspired it?

Y'know I was always sad at the tragedy of Sans... what he's gone through.... Yet, I never really saw the relationship between Sans and Frisk. I always imagined Frisk as the player, but really thinking about it, Flowey asked the player not go reset because they told the player to let Frisk be happy. So... Sans and Frisk.... ;-; Sans is happy during the pacifist run... But during the Geno run... he knows Frisk and him were friends... and he's... betrayed. You have to kill Sans, the ONLY FRICKIN' MONSTER that knows you're human and doesn't even ATTEMPT to fight you. The only reason he doesn't actively protect Frisk (other than in the Papyrus fight I believe) is because he knows it doesn't matter if Frisk dies.... Even so, the fact it you have to kill your protector, the one that wanted nothing but to able to keep his promise... you have to kill him. And he is forced to fight back.... aaaaand if you play soulless pacifist... he is sitting there, forced to protect you, KNOWING that any moment you can reset or turn and kill everyone or just kill random people for no reason other than curiosity.

I played Undertale years ago and still have yet to reset it. I only played it once, with a true pacifist route. And I refuse to reset it. Maybe, somewhere out there, there’ll be an au that never experienced any resets by the human, where chara never got corrupted by the genocide route, and where the child never got dust on their hands. And the monsters live happily on the surface, with no painful memories of their friend having once murdered them.
