- This is the extended version of the song "Secret Separation" by The Fixx which was the first single off of their fourth CD "Walkabout". The song peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 on July 26, 1986 and for two weeks at #1 on the Mainstream Rock Chart starting July 5, 1986. It was their second of three #1's on the rock chart. It also peaked at #83 bubbling under the UK Top 75 chart, as well as reaching #39 on the Canadian pop chart. This video includes footage from the trailer for Warner Brothers' "The Fountain". That movie as well as this song are about lovers separated across time (sort of). I do not own copyright to the video or the audio.

One of the most underrated bands ever. They sure had a boatload of hits back in the day.

Just saw the Fixx live at a free outdoor concert in Bend, OR. They are awesome! Still together and going strong after 30 years! Sounding as good as ever! Support them people.....we need to keep good bands like this around........

Wish that Cy, Jamie, and the woman who wrote this song, Jeanine so-and-so would team up for an entire new album. This was and still is a magical song!
Jeannette Obstoj died in 2015 unfortunately. But I feel you! I live in the past as you do! Awesome song and lyrics for sure.

I saw you long ago, we were in line waiting to come here, I looked back to see who else was going and saw you, you saw me look at you then you looked down, it was my turn and you, trapped in my mind as I left, you followed 127 days later, both arrived in the same town, then I saw you again years later and I knew I had seen you in that line in Heaven waiting our turn to be here. I've seen you throughout the history of histories and I suspect I'll see you again, Ruth.

Lovely, sublime extended remix.....
Memories of bicycling through Texas A&M campus during wee hours blasting a 99-cent copy of Walkabout cassette album through my ancient Aiwa "walkman", dosed to the gills on fine white-on-white blotter and fresh shrooms in early October 2001, just after witnessing the crumbling of WTC towers in my NJ/NYC hometown.
Nothing can erase the indelible memories of my post-911 Sabbatical I spent in Bryan/College Station and chilling with local DJs at KEOS FM radio station.
Good times with the FIXX, The Three O'clock, PM Dawn, Fat Mattress, Ian & Sylvia, and too many other eclectic "oldies" to list here.
Many thanks to Herr Straub and his hospitality and sublime playlists of his Kraft-o-Matic Bed o' Nails radio show.
The whole Walkabout album, plus some choice Flaming Lips, 13th Floor Elevators, Neutral Milk Hotel, Husker Du, etc. made it all wrthwhile.

William HB: I was just thinking of how this song (and other ones from other bands) are my favs and never made it big. And was thinking there has to others like me out there who feel the same. Then i see your comment. This was Fixx's best song. BTW: What's a Baird? Just kidding. That was a line from the movie The Couch Trip.
The Fixx were popular in Canada, and this song got a lot of airplay in Ottawa (where I lived at this time) and in Toronto. Both of these cities had a great radio station with very knowledgable DJs who played a lot of non-commercial music, so this song was in regular rotation. (sadly, both stations were purchased by media conglomerates in the earrly 1990s, many DJs were let go or chose to leave, & the quality of the music quuickly went down the toilet.)

Playing in Petaluma California on July 12th at the Mystic theater. I will be there. I understand that secret separation is their encore song. Should be a good show.
Saw them two nights ago at the Roxy. Opened with Red Skies at Night and closed with Secret Separation. They are so good live!

They are basically about the same thing.
One of my favorite songs to go with one of my favorite movies.
Cool rearrangement. You can hear how they pieced it together but it's very well done. That tamborine 'chirp at 3:38 and 6:07 is where the song would normally end on the CD, but it's rearranged and you hear it twice.
