When I was a young child in the 50s and 60s I learned to fly fish on the St. Maries , St. Joe, and North Fork of the Clearwater River. What an awesome place to be a young man or young lady who likes to fly fish!

A Beautiful Video!!! You impressed me enough to subscribe to your channel!!!! I had a trip all set up for my husband and I to come out to this area! But... his health from cancer kept us from taking the trip. I haven't set up another trip yet, since Paul died 10 years ago! So hoping I still can take this off my bucket list sometime soon!!! You guys must of had a great time being out there !!! Thanks for sharing your trip with us!! Your photography was great!!!! 🤗♥️🙏🏼

Talk about giving me the itch to fish, those Cutts are beautiful and I remember how well they fight for their size. They also taste good fried with some eggs and hashbrowns over a fire in a skillet. Those columns of rocks must have been formed by a glacier long ago. Standing majestic so high above everything around them makes them look so impressive. Great video for sure. I've been missing your videos Mike.

Great looking river. I'm going to be in Sandpoint for a celebration of life for my brother-in-law at the end of July.
My niece wants me to take her fly fishing. If you could tell me the name of the river I would be very grateful.

Wow liz has changed one hell of a lot but joking aside that surely was some great waterways and the views were epic, I thought our Lake District is lovely but it’s not a patch on them views with them needle rocks pointing up, they seemed so like some giant hand picked and stacked them rock as in a game of Jenga. They were stood there as waiting for a hard wind to blow them over, but they have been stood there for a long long time and still it hasn’t come to pass and so they are waiting as people stopped to gaze out at them from afar with eyes wide open in gasp at such a marvel there before them.

Definitely wonderful country around you there. Spectacular columns.
As far as catching fish in those mountain streams, especially for trout, I and my father were taught by our state Fly-fishing Association President, that once a Trout has had a go at the fly, you may as well move on as it will be hours before that same trout will have another go at the fly. With several trout in a given pool usually the others will also become less likely to try again. He was definitely good at fly fishing. In the time I had one nibble and my father not even that he had wandered along a smaller side stream, came back with five trout between 2 and 5 lb.
He was a department manager at my place of work, and asked me once if I ever go fishing, he was aware I had a 4WD and often went deep into remote trails. He only had a normal car and asked if I would take him to the headwaters of our largest river, Murray River, in Victoria/New South Wales Australia, an area he had long wanted to try some Flyfishing at. This is deep into our tallest mountains area, mere hills by US Rockies comparison, in eastern Victoria, to places about 180km , overv100miles, from main roads all in tough 4WD country with several river crossings, up to hood depth in a couple cases, and other to at least tyre depth, plus numerous smaller creeks. He promised to teach my dad and myself a bit about fly fishing in return. After crossing several private properties, legal access as through way to official forestry trails, and some muddy river flats needing low range 4WD, we ended deep in the mountains setting up camp for three days. There we had trout for two of the evenings, and took home six nice sized Rainbow and Brown trout too. He actually showed that on failed strike and then no more chance, a half hour effort dropping fly directly over the area that the trout first reacted, not a single sign of the trout. Yet six hours later a fly made one pass, and the trout was hooked. He also read the place t he trout would be, to perfection. Where he said no trout, there was none, where he said one would lurk, only a few sweeps of the fly into the air just above the "spot" and the trout would leap at the fly. The only trout I hooked was a normal line with baited hook, dropped drifting into the flowing stream bend.
He opened the belly of the first catch, trying several flies then based on content decided more specific fly to use, and began getting 10 and more fish per hour, letting majority go, as we wandered several miles along and in river and side creek banks. That was a major experience showing what an expert could do and his fly technique was so perfect, he sent the fly to the exact place at just above the water, never touching water, an artwork of precision. His kit had over 200 home made flies too.
