    Speaking from Australia. Thank you very much for letting me know so early in the video you're not chatting about the Aussie stuff 😊😊 much appreciated
    Good luck with your channel mate (and let me know if you do a "Saint Augustine" video 👍

      I figured you aussies would appreciate my comment there haha.
      I won't be doing a St. Aug video anytime soon. Colorado is too cold for it to grow here.

    Yard freakos?! 😂😂😂 LOVE it! I think I just planted two tufts of it in my new bed because it was listed as evergreen in my climate zone-and I loved the pretty fruit, and the bluish color. It stays decent in winter when ALL other turf goes dormant/brown in winter. We have to choose between cool or warm season-dead for spring or dead for summer. It really is pretty!!! You don't really need to mow it, as it stays in a low, sweeping habit. I have mine caged in to naturalize with daffodils and barberry. Go for the blue-it's lovely. Handles ice and blazing heat like a champ!❤

    Just moved to Colorado and trying to learn how to work in a 5b region. (Moved from 7b where fescue would grow like kudzu.) I've got an absolute trainwreck of a lawn right now, and I'm trying to gather resources for after this winter. Great information, and I'll definitely be looking forward to seeing your progress. Here's your 300th subscriber.

      Thanks man! I feel your pain. I moved from zone 7 to zone 5, and it's a complete drag.
      All my favorite flowers/plants won't survive, and zone 5 flowers are... uninspiring.
      I'll be updating "soon". I didn't get complete coverage this year, but that's ok. Keep in mind when it comes to buffalo it's low maintenance, and not exactly on par with KBG or fescue.

      Im7b also and just purchased 4 pounds of seed from Native American Seed. I’m planning on spreading seed over existing sod and leaf clutter. Lady told me to spread seed like chicken feed and keep it watered the first year. Best wishes

    Very nice. I wish I'd known about Sundancer back when my dad was reseeding the lawn after it was attacked by grubs. We could have tried buffalo grass in the backyard at least. I know he wouldn't have tried it in the front yard. Thank you.

    50 years ago I planted 5 acres with a variety called Okla-Tex. I just irrigated to get it up in August. Sometimes, I spray Roundup in the early spring to take out the weeds. My definition being unwanted plants. This works well for Bermuda grass another warm season grass.

    • @theyardfreako
      @theyardfreako  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah usually do the same with Weed B Gon (2,4d, dicamba mix) in early May right when the grass starts waking up.
      It keeps the weed pressure down with the exception of knotweed for whatever reason.
      Thanks for watching!

    I subscribed because i'm very interested in learning more about buffalo grasses. I have about a half acre of recently cleared land in northwest new mexico that i really need to replant with something low maintenance and drought tolerant, this may be it! Please keep updating on the subject. Thanks.

      @robertreznik9330 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seed after you spray out existing grasses and broadleafs in spring and early Summer. or just overseed in Summer and mow short to weaken the existing grasses. You need 5 lbs/acre of seed. The more seed the faster it will cover the areas. In Western KS a lb will eventually do it if you have time to wait.

      That is what Buffalograss is. I just put it into a flower bed to mix with daffodils because I'm zone 6 and it was listed as evergreen. Handled gobs of snow and ice like a champ! Kept its lovely bluish color. The bed gets full blazing Southern sun ALL DAY, frequently 90's in the shade-does not need much water. Stays compact with a lovely sweeping weeping habit. The flowers are lovely, and they're bent sideways at tops 4". WONDERFUL all-season grass-delightful!❤

    I have 5 acres east of Parker, ultimate goal would be 5 acres of buffalo grass and nothing else but trees.
    Doubt I'll be able to pull it off, but... imma try.

      @theyardfreako  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Five acres is another league of lawn haha.
      Do you have irrigation, even movable irrigation that’d be able to cover the area, even parts at a time?

    • @sithinstructor
      @sithinstructor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theyardfreako Not yet, but I'll need to. First, I need to get the front lawn, and back lawn established, then I'll probably spread out further from the house each season. No way I can do all of it at once.

    I have some in my front yard which is natural, and I love it - I want to convert my backyard to it, but how does it withstand low human foot traffic and a dog?

    • @theyardfreako
      @theyardfreako  ปีที่แล้ว

      Does just fine with occasional human foot traffic.
      It’ll obviously have dead spots from where dogs do their thing, but great thing about it is that it’ll fill itself back in.

    Great info, I learned about the existence of buffalo grass from the High Plains Conservation Center in Aurora, CO. As I live in Aurora and I'm going to be the first in my hoa to do a water-wise landscape, I'm looking for ideas. Do you know how well this grass drains or hopefully doesn't run off? My yard is sloped away from my house down to the street, so I'm told I need to take that into consideration when changing up plants. .... Nevermind... I jumped the gun and you answered my question on the next vid. Thank You for your knowledge !!!

    • @theyardfreako
      @theyardfreako  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drainage/runoff has more to do with your soil than the grass on top of it.
      I’m assuming you have clay like I do since I’m not too far away from ya.
      You’re probably going to be fine once the grass is established. You many even have a slight benefit considering you won’t have to irrigate as often, and therefore, the soil will have more capacity to absorb water during a heavy downpour.

      I’d say no. You get too much moisture down there for it to thrive.

  • @scomoore1951
    @scomoore1951 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks. GREAT video. I had been considering Legacy (both seed and plugs), but was discouraged by the pail color. I have a question: Unlike many how-to videos that address lawn care, seeding, sodding, etc., you don’t go into soil prep or removal of weeds and existing turf. Is that because Sundancer will thrive in most soil conditions? Up here in northern Colorado, the “soil” tends to be clay and/or compacted. Bindweed is the scourge of my backyard and I’m in the middle of a season-long campaign to kill it before planting anything.

    • @theyardfreako
      @theyardfreako  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My backyard was a mixture of river rock and wood mulch.
      So I didn’t have to worry about existing weed pressure/lawn.
      I will say if bindweed had manifested itself in the backyard prior to me seeding it I would have nuked it with glyphosate.
      If you’re thinking buffalograss for a yard, and you have bindweed, paint the yard with Round Up. It’ll make life entirely easier the next spring when you seed.

    • @robertreznik9330
      @robertreznik9330 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quinclorac 75 Herbicide trade name Paramount is more effective to control Bindweed. Best in the Fall. Will not kill most grasses like Roundup. Another way is Roundup ready blue grass to keep most all weeds out.

    Can I overseed bafo grass over tall fescue lawn ?

    I live in a flood plain. Last year from march to July my yard was under 2ft of water. My house was totally fine.
    My dad who lives across the street had 6 ft of water in his yard. He has bees that floated on a dock 6 ft above the Ground for 6 months.
    Would this grass work in my yard?
