      Strange....when some of the bigger subbed channels put out poorly filmed dross.
      A good example of an interesting channel with low subs is ''PeninsularSrsVideos'' they have very interesting hour long interviews and talks with ex fighter pilots, engineers that designed things like the SR-71 blackbird and they attend many classic car shows, with the owners talking about their vehicles in depth.

    It's always refreshing to hear heartfelt views from genuine car enthusiasts who live in other parts of the world, sometimes in very remote places. I have a background in design too and like Miguel can appreciate the "details" in vintage machinery like the E-Type. He sounds like a great guy who I'd enjoy sitting down and talking cars with.

    I saw one of them just 3 days ago in a garage in cannes, in a small street. it was a very modest garage, named garage Dupont, 2 cars barely fit. But there was this red e-type, the hood open whitout anyone around. she wasn't perfect, dusty, a lot of small scratch, but this magnificence.

    Enzo Ferrari remarked, "This is the most beautiful car in the world." Is that why Jag called it the "E" type? for Enzo. Only kidding, the natural progression of the 24 hours le Mans C & D type track cars. Always, one of my favourite designs, sublime.

    The very first car I ever drove was my uncle's E Type(Mk2 IIRC?). I was 14 years of age. Says much for these cars that it didn't stall too hard. :) Many years on I've driven a couple of other examples. The ultimate Grand Tourer IMHO.

    • @iraeich
      @iraeich 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it's a beautiful car. But most beautiful ever made? Well, I know Enzo Ferrari said it was, but I would tell Enzo to look in his own stable for even more exquisite cars. The 250 series would be a good start.
      Actually, I like the C and D - type better.

    • @JimsEquipmentShed
      @JimsEquipmentShed 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +iraeich those are amazing cars as well, but the xke just has a certain balance for me. (Although I'd never kick a Ferrari out of bed for eating crackers either.... ;-)

    • @davidbell1110
      @davidbell1110 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually prefer the Coupé version. The series 1 E-Type Coupé was I believe the car Enzo described as the most beautiful car ever made. Of course it's similar to the roadster but I think the roof line of the Coupé adds a lot to the looks.
      For me while I love E-Types there are plenty of other classics I prefer from a looks perspective. I think I am just overly familiar with E-Type though. Some times a car you are less familiar with you end up preferring.

    • @JimsEquipmentShed
      @JimsEquipmentShed 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Bell
      I have to agree with you there, the shape of the cabin and the side opening hatch does change the look of the car quite a bit. I'd probably still opt for the convertible because I prefer open air driving. But the coup does have a more exotic look to it.

  • @rivolinho
    @rivolinho 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    The E-type shape is synonymous with classic cars in general. If you asked a teenager to draw the outline of a classic car, it would more than likely be something resembling this.

      @shaunock 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's a 1964 E-Type, it probably came with that dent from factory. Jaguar were never too concerned about QC in those days.

    • @shaunock
      @shaunock 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It was a joke, referencing Jaguar's history of building vehicles that have questionable electrics, needlessly complicated mechanicals and that oxidize like a Lancia.

    Agree with the title comment in that I am generally only into Aussie and US cars but the E type has always been right up there in my mind as one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Prefer the hardtop though.

    • @Oldbmwr100rs
      @Oldbmwr100rs 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm very fond of the hardtop Myself.It changes the lines of the car, accentuating the curves and really showing off the very classic look!

    • @arisgod2749
      @arisgod2749 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really? Even if pushed I can't come up with one American classic car that I would be interested in when compared with Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Jaguar, Lancia, Maserati, and Citroen. Maybe the Ford F40, Daytona Coupe and AC Cobra but those in my mind can't be classified as regular production classics, maybe the Cobra

    • @fitzyholden1036
      @fitzyholden1036 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Understand why you like what you like mate. I've always loved muscle cars and classics from the big three, don't know why but I do. Maybe because I grew up restoring old 1950's Holdens with my old man and my life still revolves around my workshop and restoring old Holdens and Fords.

    • @fitzyholden1036
      @fitzyholden1036 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hit the nail on the head with that explanation mate.

    • @me3333
      @me3333 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      To me this car in coupe form and the 300sl gullwing Mercedes are the most beautiful cars ever made but they are so unattainable that they might as well not exist. The thing I like about American muscle cars is you don't have to be a millionaire to own and drive one, at least in the US. One car I have lusted after since I was a kid though is a XBGT like the one in Mad Max. It's my understanding that they are like unicorns even in OZ though so the odds of me ever finding one are not in my favor.

      There were some photo's shown at one point that looked like they were taken during a restoration so I would imagine like most classic restorations they took the time to do a few upgrades for known faults. A big ally radiator with an electric fan I am sure would sort any over heating problems. With lots of classics now people know what the common faults are and people have worked out upgrades over the years to resolve them.

    Despite the E-type's enduring popularity, I could never get behind it. The design of it, despite what that egomaniac Ferrari might have said, does nothing for me. That said, I can usually find something positive about any old car, and that is much the case here. I'll just appreciate its existence as a monument to a bygone time.

      Car is pretty long for what it is. Small inside, narrow overall and you sit very low--I can't even see around a Prius in mine. But I would say it is much larger overall than a Miata.

      If you look at a lot of old cars compared with their modern equivalents they are often much smaller. The lack of having to have much in the way of safety features just meant everything could be got into a smaller package.
      The exception to that rule would maybe be classic American cars.
