That last level might be my favorite in some time (the end of the run), because it actually gives you time to react to what you have to do, which is not a luxury 99% of levels seems to give you. Whether it's smm1 or 2, they'll often just start you loaded off a spring or into spikes with minimal time to react.
Really like how the different arenas in the Pokemon-themed level actually reflect the different Elite 4 types: A Thwomp for Bruno's Onixes, a Blooper for Lorelai and her many, many water types, a Boo for Agatha and Bowser Junior as one of Lance's dragons
That Mario 3 stage with tail swiping two blocks at a time reminds me of fighting Iron Knuckles in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. That sweet spot that can hit them regardless of whether their shield is raised or lowered. Wonder how similar the controls are!
King Muncher's Vine Challenge: 'Could give Mario a frog suit, put it as a requirement, and make it a Frogger game... Just saying, for anyone out there making levels.
that's because the first costumes had no end level special song to them, pikachu was one of the first pokemons, so no songs. charmender/squirtle/bulbasaur came later when they added songs to costumes. it's a shame they not retroactive added a song to pikachu too, but in videogames this is common sadly
To be honest, I think all hot garbage levels with fireflower and boss spam are just trying to make a hard boss fight, but instead make a steaming pile of hot garbagio
Two runs ago, Ryu got just murdered with really hard levels, then he just got thrash levels last run. This run he just got easy and good levels. What will next level will he get

open stage 3 in the level browser, how did they clear in less than 20 seconds from the start? was there a secret 'dev exit' thru the coin at the start? took you 7 seconds from the checkpoint and like a full p switch time to get to the first door, how the hell did they do it in 20 seconds? like a hidden pipe below screen in the hole?

love u ryu, but this hello fresh thing is ridiculous. how can anyone say its cheaper than groceries? 9- 12.5$ a meal. thats minimum 27$ a day for 3 meals. i can get 3 meals a day for like 40 $ a week
this is why i hate when people bring up pokemon when im watching videos about other games nothing gets me fired up like when someone who doesnt even play pokemon and isnt in the community starts whining cause its not the trash they played when they were 10 lmfao. btw scarlet and violet are better than any game that has ever come out in the mario series and objectively better than the trash pokemon games we played in the 90s its not close :-)
I think custom victory music does not play if the current music track is not the default, like P-switch coundown or star music. That is why you didn't get the Pikachu music, the star was still active.
I'm pretty sure it's just that the mystery mushroom costumes for the Smash Pokemon got no custom audio for whatever reason GF/TPC didn't approve of at the time (which is also why Mewtwo's little pose just played a generic MM sound effect earlier on in that level)

Man SMM1 makes for the best content. The simple concept levels, the costumes, the hot garbage - it’s one of the best Mario experiences.
