    I think double decker can be very helpful for Bihar. Instead of running antyoday train from Chandigarh to Darbhanga (Bihar) they can use this to increase number of passengers

    I think the biggest problem is that all the infrastructural elements (rails, bridges, clearances, loco power, curvature, signals etc.) have evolved under the "stick to absolutely the bare minimum required" mentality. This no doubt resulted in economy at the time of construction, but now, with speed and capacity requirements going up drastically, it is almost impossible to improve things significantly. Essentially, Indian Railways will now have to rebuild a whole new, and completely modern, system from scratch.

      Blue one are also icf coaches but yellow red one are utkrisht coaches made by icf.... It is a slight advance version I think
      Other yellow coaches are tejas coaches while other red coaches are lhb which are faster and safer

    I don't think coaches are valuable option. but I'm definitely sure, if we'll use this technique in semi high speed trains with sleeper beds(kind of pod, I've seen in japan HSR in YT), it's going to be profitable...

    Reason for Bhopal-Indore double decker train failure was long travel time.
    Volvo buses between these two cities takes 3.30 hr however train used to take almost 5.30 hr.
    Also train fare was comparatively high.
    If Railway could run non stop between Bhopal to Indore via Maksi route, still there is chance of revive.

    For Delhi to Jaipur Double Decker, platform edges were remodified of lot of stations. All those efforts and expenses just to run one train. And that one Train is still not that popular among users because of its odd timing and less comfort.

      It is actually very popular among users from jaipur who work in ncr because it reaches gurgaon and cantt by 10.15. But between delhi to jaipur most people dont get free from office by 6pm thats why they were unable to travel during that time. I do agree with luggage and comfort issue but except covid time it is mostly a packed train from jaipur to delhi. There is no other dedicated train between jaipur and delhi except this.

    We need good design for EMU double decker trains. China's CRRC makes many such trains and even exports them to Europe. Main problem in these trains is lack of luggage storage and height of the roof. When we can run double stack goods train close to wires on DFC, we can atleast increase the height of the roof. We need to run them on high density long haul routes.

      in Mumbai, double decker coaches can be used in EMU trains, esp for women's coaches since average height of women is less than of men. also converting one coach to double decker women coach can mean upto 3 single decker coaches are released out of which 2 can be used for general public usage

      i guess Ghat section and general speed increase of trains meant single decker were more suitable than double decker. also with more powerfull locos, more single decker coaches could be used in single train

    in canada there is a train service called GO TRAIN. which is mainly a double decker train for passesngers. but it is spacious and very comfortable. so dont indian railways learn from them and implement that here in india. it would be great for people who travel in train.

      GO trains ke fares bhi dekhlo Bhai. Presto card me paisa bhara bhara kar almost pura bank account hi khali hojati hai. Also, they have lot of features like heaters in winter and AC in summer and heaters in GO stations too. But even with high fares they(GO trains) are incurring huge losses. If you want, you just Google the losses being incurred by GO trains.

      Majority double decker trains operate in non-electrified tracks including Go train. Hence their coach height is much taller making it more spacious and comfortable

    I traveled in mumbai madgaon Ac double decker ...it had many passenger's maybe because Goa is an on demand place specially during vacations .....and I was a single traveler with just a bag....and for me the experience was awesome ....like costly than normal central railway trains like shatabdi or gareebrath or konkan railway trains like CSMT or Konkan kanya or mandovi...but worthy as it didnt get as many technical halts as these other trains usually get. Enjoyed that !!

      @@SujalRajput10 honestly if the price goes equal to Rajdhani/Tejas I would prefer double decker over rajdhani ....if it gets higher than Rajdhani /Tejas I would choose rajdhani/Tejas mostly ....but still would use double decker often ...
      Point is being Indian railways fan, I would pay attention to the variation in journey more than comfort .....and Indian Railways are known for its variations...No new, but atleast keeping the 6 double Deckers tht are already running is totally worthy...

    You say that it's only marginally higher than the normal coaches. Then how are overhead obstacles an issue? And as for the comfort, it's only a seating config to run in routes where Jan Shatabdi runs. As in day journey. And even in normal Jan Shatabdi coaches, we don't have much space for luggage.

    Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central double decker use to run with fully crowded passengers always, never easy to get reservation, runs at 130 kmph speed, reasonable fare, takes only 6 hrs. to cover 500 kms, I think best train on this route.

    Can the double decker coaches be mixed with regular sleeper coaches in a train? For instance, the reserved coaches in long-distance trains could be sleeper (AC & NON-AC) coaches, while the general compartments could be double decker.
    Is that possible?

      Depends on what u understand as world class. Technologically underlying LHB coach is still very outdated. And what I have heard, seating comfort is not very optimum. No tilting technology yet.

    I guess this 400 vande Bharat trains can be used for peak season, for which double decker was made, vande Bharat trains satisfies all the problems faced by double decker, like passenger capacity, luggage capacity, platform clearance, comfort, speed every aspect vande Bharat is better than double decker except the manufacturing cost, but vb has very low maintenance cost and same operating cost of shatabdi

    I would prefer indian railway for introducing every train with a double decker rake and for any convenient they can increase the height of catinary wire and OHE and the pantograph can easily rise high. And we can see this in Western railway zone where the OHE is high of double decker container freight

    I disagree. Most of the problems u mentioned are designing issues which are already resolved in other countries.Look at DD designs of US n Canada. They are not congested at all.

    Indian railways itna paisa lagati h coaches manufacturing me ...usme se thoda sa aur kharcha krke better looks ya colours de skte h...why are they making in yellow white useless...take inspirations from other countries...how aesthetic there coaches look ...just look at russian railways...there coaches are too simple but colours are pleasing.
