wow Karina. this is beautiful. and yes, I truly enjoy doing the stay stitching by hand after watching so many of your tutorials, thank you so much for all your helpful guidance in my sewing
Thank you for a great tutorial. Yes Chemainus (renown for its murals) is a pretty little waterfront town that suits the name of your tops perfectly! As a resident of Vancouver Island it is wonderful to hear that it has become recognized in the sewing world.....
Excellent video, camera angles and descriptions are super helpful. Yes, you convinced me to hand baste more often. I respect your precision; the results are fabulous!
When I saw your Chemainus top was so impressed I had to make one for myself! I had your video on to talk me through the placket section, I would have struggled without your help on that, so thank you. Liked your tip to add interfacing to the material before cutting as well.
Thank you for using contrasting fabrics and thread. So many videos show a real garment where it's very difficult to see what's going on when it's all the same colour.
I love the color purple on you. It is very flattering. Your sewing is exquisite, so particular and perfect. Beautiful. It’s wonderful to see others who care that the inside looks as good as the outside. I just love your videos. And I appreciate all the hard work you do for us. It is very inspirational. Thank you.
Because of you, I now am a hand basting convert! Hand basting fold-over elastic gives a perfect result the first time and every time. Thanks to your channel and Whitney's TomKat Stitchery channel, I am back sewing and getting great results.
I just love your videos. I am an intermediate sexist with aspirations to be. As good as you. I have a way to go but so glad to have found such a good teacher. I am in my 70’s but love to sew and learn. Thank you again for such great content.
Lifting Pins and Needles yes! When I think of all the unpicking I’ve done when things went wonky...and it always looks a little roughed up when you have to unpick and resew your garment. I’ll let you know how I make out. Thanks again.
Love your top sewing pattern well explained thank you at Canada 🇨🇦 Ma son also living in Montreal Quebec very beautiful city Canada but I live in 🇬🇧 Uk great to watch your video keep it up 👍🏼 ❤️😊
I am making my second top from this pattern and still need to follow your steps for the placket, my mind just can’t follow this bit of the written instructions! So thank you for this. I love your black and white checkered version, you are so creative.
Karina that purple outfit is EVERYTHING! I am differently SOLD on hand basting! It may save you from having to unpick later or even worst being unhappy with your make😕!
Thank you for your expertise. Any concern I had about the front pleat has been removed as your fabric choice recommendation won't add bulk. Yay. Many thanks - You're awesome.
Glad to help. I think I always prefer flowy fabrics for tops, unless it’s a structure shirt with a collar and full of darts... then for those I like the light non flowy wovens :)
The long and dark coloured placket is also good to divide a larger chest area and makes one look slimmer. 👍 Thank you for using a small piece of light coloured fabric while showing us the details of the placket. It was much easier to see the seams.👏👏👏 I loved the Russian Doll patterned piece as well ! 🤗
Filming the tops with black fabric would have been impossible to see. That's why I chose the cotton scraps, so that the details would show :) I agree about the darker placket. I did similar with the Presto Tunic and used a contrast dark plum to elongate the chest.
As always both tops are gorgeous on you Karina! Love that black & white check AND the chiffon. They are tops you'll no doubt wear a lot :) Chemainus is about 50 km north of me on Vancouver Island :) (I live in the Capital Victoria). I was amazed when I saw "Chemainus" as the name given to this blouse pattern. It's a very small place :) Very pretty - there are beautiful murals on the sides of the buildings all over town.
I actually would love to know how Kennis decides on the names. They are always so interesting. I watched tourism videos about Chemainus to see how to pronounce the name :)
I too loved that fabric. Would love to see a garment made from it or something if you had enough fabric, but I do love it as an accent piece. Gives me ideas too.
Karina, I just love these two tops on you. Thanks for all your tips. I've always done hand basting and agree with you that it's easier to hand baste than to deal with pins in these small areas. I, too, love Itch to Stitch patterns. Kennis is an amazing pattern drafter.
Thank you for this wonderful video. I think the idea of making the placket and neck binding in cotton is brilliant! I fell in love with a placket dress online (out of my price range) and I found a similar print in rayon. I have been stressing about doing tihs placket construction with a rayon fabric so this has been so helpful. I will hand baste! This upcoming project is a bit of an investment, and I want to take it slowly and get it just right.
This certainly shows how the extra time and step of hand basting makes for a very neat and professional garment. The tip with two fabrics--one flowy and one stable is a super tip. Thank you. The tops are lovely and look so cute on you. Your style of prints and patterns is VERY you and quite distinguished. Well done.
sorry to be offtopic but does someone know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly lost the password. I would love any tips you can give me!
@Crosby Knox Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Yes, you have a basting convert here! I did some today on my bias binding for my new Harmony blouse. Both of those tops are gorgeous!! I wasn't sure about this pattern until I saw yours. Looks like I'm going to have to get it 😊
Thank you so much for this! I would not have been able to figure this out from a written description, but this video is very easy to follow. I really appreciated the tip about using a less slippy fabric for the placard.
I agree that the hand basting really helps getting a perfect finish. I love both tops. As always, a beautiful job. I am going to order the pattern. I really like 3/4 sleeves, so maybe I will try that on this pattern.
Personally I can’t wear polyesters or viscose or silk on my skin as my skin reacts to them. I will try a cotton voile next and see if this works. I love your blouses.
This came together nicely, you did a fantastic job. I missed the link to where to buy the Our Lady of Guadalupe fabric. Please, if you are able repost or respond. Gracias, felicidades por su excelencia en la costura.
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles My mistake. I noticed you linked the pattern and all the sewing essentials, so naturally I thought you may have mentioned where to buy the fabrics used in the video tutorial. Didn't mean to confuse you. Once good job.
The pleats give 6” of the width at the hips. If you eliminated them, you’d end up with a fitted hip and that would change the style completely. I’d say maybe the one on the back could be eliminated only to not affect the fit too much.
Hi Karina, I would’ve loved to get this Pattern but they are not size inclusive for the hips. It’s such a shame because I miss out on their other patterns as well. I wish they included Plus sizing. 🙁
This is changing. The Mountain View Jeans are being tested right now in sizes 22-40. It’s a process, but it’s happening. This pattern has so much positive ease. Over 10” at the hips and the finished garment is (58.5”) for size 20.
I really wanted to say it correctly an watched a few videos where people said the name of the town. Pronouncing the name of a place as correctly as I can is very important to me :)

You did convince me with all that basting! I love how it turned out and it is absolutely worth the time. Thank you 😊
Two absolutely gorgeous blouses. Clear and concise placket instruction which is great as I am about to do one on another shirt. Thankyou.
I love your videos, you simplify things. Thank you.
That’s the goal. I’m glad you like them.
T his. Tutorial has been extremely helpful, as are all your tutorials. Thank you so much.

Wow thank you. I wouldn't have liked to attempt that packet without seeing this first. Both tops look excellent too.
There is always a first time for any technique and this is how we grow. It's fun to expand the arsenal of skills :)
awesome and you are the queen of hand basting love it. Thank you for sharing your hints and tips

This is a very happy activity.
I really appreciate this tutorial because I was having trouble with a dress placket and you helped a lot.
I’m glad this helped :)
I’m convinced! Hand basing for all my new garments 🥰
Yay! You’ll see how the seam ripper makes its presence less and less in the areas that need precision :)

I actually loved your “fake” one! The final version is lovely too. Thank you for showing the placket. I would definitely have trouble with that!
I made it out of little scraps I found. Filming on the black cotton would have been very hard to see in a tutorial :)

A light linen would be lovely too. The pattern was very well made for this technique. Very straight forward :)

Love the cool print blouses. Even the music us cool😀
Thanks so much 😊
Very thoughtful demonstration.
Adding this to my projects! Very pretty and thanks for the close up tips. Will no doubt come back to that when I start.
How exciting! I hope you enjoy it.
Morning Katrina🤗PERFECTION!! Looks beautiful! This pattern will definitely be on my buy list!
You'll love it :)
Great job on the neck binding, that is hard to get that perfect 👍

Thanks! I'd been dreaming about it :)
Great tutorial, I will definitely be looking at your videos!! ty so much
Beautiful tops and great tutorial!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for a great video. I love the top. Will have to get this pattern, the placket looks easy!!
Yup. Easier than what it looks like :)
You’ll enjoy it.
The black contrast also toned down the busy, dizzy black checker print. It turned out so beautifully! It was a really nice accent on both tops.
Thank you so much 😊. I agree. It does tone it down and that’s good :)
Again awesome. So much to learn. Thank you.
My pleasure!
Looks amazing 😍
Thank you so much 😊
Very helpful, thank you Love the top too
You are so welcome!
Yes! Hand basting is amazing and does not really take that much time for such a better result.
Exactly. It takes not time at all ans sewing without pins is so nice :)
Lovely. Need another tutorial on planket
What do you mean? I filmed it step by step.
Sorry for the misspelling. I meant sewist.
No worries :)
Yes, you pronounced Chemainus correctly! Delightful town. Delightful shirt.
Yay, I'm relieved. I like to attempt to pronounce as best possible.
