As a Mexican, both sides were absolutely shitty.
Juarez wanted to turn Mexico into a US-fashioned country, getting rid of the past and the Church properties who were among the few who still worried about the Natives (as the video says) in order to gain investors, peace and stability to be like the Yanks and enter into the “civilization path” But both nations had FAR different formative processes, and to mimic the bully that stole half of your territories and actively despises you is quite ironic and pathetic, ain’t it?
And the conservatives had little to no faith in the Mexican autonomy so hard that they were desperately begging any European royal to be their daddy, or, to keep one as a puppet in order to keep their rampant privileges they’ve always had since the Independence.
As for their legacies, nowadays Maximilian’s supporters are mainly just edgelords trying to look “unique” against the Juarez patriotic cult (solidified by his pupil Porfirio Díaz), ignoring his bad decisions, many contradictions and mistakes. And republicans believe their government model is “infalible, perfect, with people participation” to this day, that 1867 was enough to secure our independence… yet we are still the Uncle Sam’s backyard. Their governments have made many Native persecutions (Maya, Yaqui, Acteal, Apache…), they have their hands blooded with the Porfiriato, the PRI regime, the Dirty War, the 1968 Tlatelolco Massacre, the 1971 Halconazo, but yet they cry “long live the republic”

Finally I got why Mexican Empire's Coat of Arms had Scepters of justice and mercy along with an Eagle facing towards right just like the French Empire

Listening to a Brit pronounce Spanish place names and dates in Mexico in Castellano is hilarious.
    “Vera Cruth”
    “Thinco de Mayo” 😂

I notice that all of you guys that make these dirty little secrets of American history have accents; I’m sure you guys are more educated about our country than we were ever taught: keep it up

Yes, but once the union won, Phil Sheridan was ordered to start gathering up his troops and head southwest to Mexico. Plus, William Seward, simultaneously told Napoleon III that if he continued to prop up Maximillian, the Union Army’s huge, battle trained army would be fighting Napoleon III’s Army in Mexico. That’s what convinced Napoleon III to abandon Maximillian.

What you refer to as the imperialist mexican were actually Republicans and what your calling the Republicans where the liberals. As referred to as college educated mexicans do.

Thanks! I was just making up terms that I felt worked to sum them up
E.g. you can't have a republic with an emperor and so it would have been odd to call them Republicans whilst they supported the emperor and France
But I'm glad I know the more formal names now
