    Welcome to 2023 everybody! Hope many of you have a Scotland trip on your agenda this year, and hopefully this vid has given you some extra ideas for your itinerary! What other brand spanking new places and activities would you recommend for others planning their Scotland visit in 2023?

    I'm coming back to Edinburgh for a month around Samhain (having not been able to visit since Halloween 2019). I'm glad to hear of the extension of the tram to Newhaven - previously, I always enjoyed a walk there along the Waters of Leith - this expanded line will make it far more convenient to spend more time in a great part of the city. I've learned after many visits that purchasing a Lothian bus pass (Ridacard) is a wise investment - one is much more likely to broaden the range of places they visit while keeping costs down and not needing to always ensure exact fares in pocket.

    Thank you, Kat! I took in so much about the positives and the challenges that you mentioned in this video from 7 months ago. A lot has happened since the beginning of the New Year, and your honesty about the costs of living in Edinburgh and Scotland have been far more challenging than we could have fully prepared for, especially when you mentioned the costs of living and its impact on our lives.
    I have seen that the Tram is fully open and is an amazing opportunity for growth, especially in Leith and further East to the Sea. I'm wanting to move to Leith because I like the neighbourhood, but I'm worried about whether this is a good time for a disabled gay man in his 50's will be able to afford a place that can allow me to use the Tram and locate housing that can provide a place to charge my mobility scooter so I can fully enjoy it. My greatest concern is that due to the weal economy could limit my options for housing, and when you're disabled your vulnerability makes someone like me an easy target for issues that worries me greatly.
    What would you say to me about planning a move to Edinburgh/Leith in 2013/2014? Do you believe that this is a wise choice, or should I defer this until the economy improves. I currently live in Oxford, England, but I want to be back in Scotland and the tram service is great for connections to so much of Edinburgh, the airport, the ferries and the trains. It's just a very big decision for me, and one that I want to do, but I need to be in a safe location and one where the medical services are available if I would need it.
    Děkuji!

    Hi from 🇨🇿! You really know how to attract people 😅 I'm actually going to Edinburgh in two weeks (for three days), so I really appreciate the hot info. Also, I was hesitant whether to visit the castle or not, having strong arguments for both options 😀Thanks to your older video I know I can let it go and just focus to the other stuff (man there's a lot of it!). Looking forward to the city and maybe we'll run into each other somewhere! 😃

      Thanks for watching! Don't get me wrong, the castle definitely isn't a bad experience by any means, but for me personally combining free exploration of old town's spooky gothic bits and some of the free attractions (National museum not to be missed (especially when the viewing platform is open - cool free views of the city!), and the interior of the National Portrait Gallery hiding behind St Andrews square is STUNNING) is 💯!

But maybe the weather will be so diasatrous I'll give up and go to the castle anyway 😅 We'll see 🙂

      It'd be cool to see Fife: Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes, and St Andrews. Edinburgh is a great city but it doesn't reflect the rest of the country imo. It's big, posh, cosmopolitan and tons of tourists. Whereas Fife is much more working-class and also has great nature. I'd recommend checking out the Fife Flyers hockey team too.

    Happy new year to you & Simon. I hope things improve greatly for you. Interesting video, and tbh I think you do good to cover the not so pleasant aspects of Scotland/UK-related tips. If people get moany about it, it's on them. It's valuable information. Personally, in terms of my possible eventual move over there, it seems just as well that I've had to push it back (due to financial crap.) Unfortunately, it seems pretty messed up over there atm, even if I could I'm not sure I would given the lower wages than here in Aus/swollen cost of living there. However I have been thinking of visiting, if I can find cheap flights, etc.
    This'll all get better 😊.

      Hello, originally from Czech Republic I lived in UK for 13 years, now we moved to Australia, Queensland. Being here just year, we are thinking going back as the prices here are insane. When the prices of food in London are cheaper than here in small place, plus cost for everything is very high, the UK seems to be sooo cheap to me. I could go for ages, but you never know the reality utill you live there.

    • @gallaghim
      @gallaghim ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kakibot I hope so too. Last time I checked, flights range from (coverting to £) 730 to 950 one way, which more or less falls in line with what I've paid before tbh. I've always just figured you'd have to pay a lot given the sheer distance, etc.

    • @Kakibot
      @Kakibot  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Funnily enough I've gotten multiple requests for this recently so I'd love to create a guide soon - I was kinda hoping to wait until the trams are running their full route, just to not let the video become obsolete 3 months later haha x)
      I think the easiest approach is to pay contactless by card or apple pay on your phone. Essentially in that scenario you don't even have to specify what ticket you're after, because there is an automatic cap system (so you will be paying single ticket prices for every bleep until you hit the amount you'd normally be paying for an all-day ticket!). The airport transport is usually best approached by buying an open return for best value at the kiosk / machine usually somewhere in the vicinity of the tram/bus!

    • @Kakibot
      @Kakibot  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Edinburgh’s public transport can be a bit less than dependable when it comes to getting places on time BUT the bright side of the same coin is that it’s just a bit more chill and safe than in other cities. In buses, everyone boards through the front, passing the driver - this is a good opportunity to ask questions if anything is unclear (like if the specific bus is going to the stop you need etc). They have some dedicated space for strollers and wheelchairs, and you will be able to tell before you board whether the space is occupied or not by having a quick peek through the windows! Also I’m sure toddlers would absolutely love the view from the front of the top floor of our double decker buses haha. Trams are smooth and spacious and mostly not extremely busy unless travelling during a rugby match x) as they are made with people travelling from and to the airport in mind, I think they should have plenty of space for strollers, too!

      If you're not renting a car, get a Ridacard (bus pass) for the Lothian buses and trams. A week-long pass is £20 (or £60 for 4 weeks) and you will be far more likely to visit more places and have a greater experience of Edinburgh. The bus can take you out to Rosslyn Chapel which is very interesting, historic place to see that most visitors would never know to go without a local suggesting it.
      I found Helix Park (the Kelpies) and Falkirk Wheel (boatlift) to be incredibly stunning free sites and well worth a short train to Falkirk.
