In the beginning of the video, looks like the white triangle is lined up with ISO 160, unless I'm reading it wrong.

The auto works with the flash bouncing. In fact it works with the flash anywhere provided the sensor is on the camera. You might have noted that the vari power dial comes right out of the unit with a good steady pull. Back in ‘the day’ there was a device that mounted on the hot shoe with a coiled cord and a spot to plug the vari power dial into. There was a small four spoke bounce umbrella kit for use on a bracket.

I like to use my 285HV with the remote sensor cord. The sensor is on the camera and the flash is pointed into an umbrella. Works great.

ATG started out with the 283, then 285 and ended with the last 285HV.
These were considered the world's best flashes.
When you understand how to use ATG Auto2 then you will no longer needing TTL.

What camera are you using? I was told you can't use old flashes ( to high voltage) with new cameras. I have a nikon d 80 and that the flash will burn the electronics in the camera is this true? Any advice on this. Cheers

The 285 HV is the current version of the flash. The "HV" stands for high voltage and it does regulate the voltage, so it can be used with modern DSLR camera. I was using a Nikon 7000 in the demo. In general, there was an issue with early Canon DSLR cameras in that they didn't build voltage regulation into the camera. I believe current models have addressed that, but don't quote me on that. Nikon started building voltage regulation in their DSLR cameras early on, and still do.

@@m.micajahtruitt1536 the trigger voltage on the shoe contact points, (centre one positive and side one negative) is very low, about 8volt DC. It is safe for digital cameras, so can use it on one on camera or use it off camera using a Radio Trigger.
Use a voltmeter to check the voltage on the shoe/base, to be sure.
