I think the real benefit to the domestic trade routes is later in the game when you get the bonus production cards there’s one that is like +2 food +2 production and there’s another it’s like +2 production +5 gold or something like that and they’re fire

Also, no trade routes to city states. :D Hermetic might have been a good late choice once all disctricts are down. The building would kinda fit with all the campuses, and there might be some insane late cities. Owls at least gives your the free card slot, which is always helpful, although you didn't use any of the insane stuff it offers. :D
I am also working on a Tokugawa game but going more domination-focused. The one situation where you can't use foreign trade routes is when you're at war where you're forced into domestic ones. The giga capital providing insane yields and fueling the samurai horde is quite fun.

Just finished a Tokugawa game. Very strong trade route abilities for an isolationist civ. Following your strat I hit an early Dark Age into a Heroic and went crazy building Harbors ASAP. I was building Electronics Factories by the end of the Medieval era. Ended with a Science victory dominating Science and only second to Englad for Culture. Fun Sim City game.
Starting out very close to Russia was less than ideal so I prioritized Science over Culture. Settling two cities by Galapagos was some nice icing on the cake. Suz'ing Auckland, Nan Madol, and Ayutthaya helped immensely. Islands and Continents map.

Man looks like you rolled a better start than I did(I ended up with Suleiman as my neighbour). And the worst thing about him is he has troops on your border all the time but instead like our traditional Suleiman this new personoa just keeps them sitting over there and keeps you paranoid lol.

I had a really good tokugawa game as well, I eclipsed the AI in both culture and science relatively early and I built several good wonders like petra pyramids, kilwa, oracle, and mausoleum. Diety.
i think one has to get great engineers earlier, to get the one that gives you more districts in one city get your capital to like 6 or 7 districts, and reap huge rewards
few things, the mod that lets you see how much you make plugging a new card in??? that would be a huge help. And how do you know what things give you era score? I struggle early with getting a golden age cause I'm not quite sure what gives era score but later on I normally keep them through the whole game.
The mod is Extended Policy Cards!!! Second, I have like 3k hours into the game so thats how I know haha. BUT there is a mod called Real Era Tracker that shows what things are still available for Era Score that could help you~
If you play on Monopolies and Corporations, Teddy should declare war on you if you get a monopoly. No denouncements, just automatically triggers Trust Buster Surprise War.
Would owls and getting 2 trade routes per city and surplus magnus be even more busted ? Might let you not need so many theatre squares and campii - have a city with Harbor commercial iz and encamp to give tons of early prod to get the other cities going

I was very puzzled that he didn't go gilded vault, I thought it ma6 be a challenge or something. But I like his play style more than potato for a very specific reason: potato looks down on wonders and I love to see a lot of wonders everywhere

Nah. Nobunaga was the guy who conquered the Daimyo of Japan. But Tokugawa was the one who became shogun.

Samurai's can create fishing boats meaning you dont have to use all those builder charges

Sorry foe the late response! You can build cities under the minimum distance from another city if it's an island city!
