Guys, I got to see this production on broadway, if you haven’t, I highly recommend it. Solid 10/10 musical. Great sets, acting, dancing, singing, lights, everything about this production is phenomenal.
Crackerking 101 May you share the premise of this musical with me? I think hearing it from someone who has actually watched it is better than googling about it.
Bituin Kleinman-Mell aghh it’s just amazing!! it starts out with all of the actors out on the set, interacting with the audience and each other, and it’s all very real. Then once the musical starts, you’re told the story of a little girl named Ti Moune who was saved during a flood by an older peasant couple. On the island, there are the two very different sides. The dark-skinned peasants who worship the four gods, and the lighter-skinned French people. As Ti moune, grows up, she prays to the gods asking them why they saved her during the flood. She wants to know what her purpose is in life. The gods decide to test the power of love versus death, and plan the meeting of Ti Moune and an injured French boy. Ti Moune fights to save his life and the rest of the musical basically shows their love story and you learn about the past between the two opposing sides. It’s all done so well and definitely worth seeing!
My school is doing this right now (today is the last performance) and since our troupe members (troupe 6180) are going to New York the Broadway cast invited us.
We’re doing a concert version of this musical in my Musical Theatre class. We started singing this song today and we started sounding really good and I can’t wait for the finished product. ❤️❤️
I was in once on this island jr (storyteller) and this is now my fav musical! I had the pleasure of seeing this on Broadway and totally recommend it!!!
I don't remember much about when my middle school was supposed to perform this play (a teacher's strike shut down the extra curriculars, so it never made it to the stage), but I do remember 1) that Agwe was played by a girl who couldn't hit the low notes, so they had to rearrange the pitch of all his verses and 2) that we were a bunch of dumb middle schoolers, so they had to rename Papa Ge (Gay) as Papa G (Gee) to make it more "kid friendly".
This is the first time I’ve listened to this since I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. Just woke up this morning and remembered “We dance to the earth, we dance to the water, the Gods awake and we take no chance.” And here I am. Pretty good stuff.
i just saw the touring broadway performance for this show today and it was absolutely stunning! i’m in absolute awe for how beautiful this show is and i’m so glad i got to see it!
i love the music at 3:35 after she says the beauxhomes dance to a different beat it sounds so cool, like maybe something you’d hear in a video game or something
Here because of my best friend she was Ti Moune in Once On This Island for a company that I forgot the name of, but it's a popular and professional company! And they actually let her keep the dress so she has that to this day.
I’m helping with auditions at my middle school (which is kinda funny they’re doing this because all of them are so white they blend in with walls) and that’s not only today, but I have no idea what this musical is like. XD Rip. Looks like I’m trying to listen to the entire musical before that. Edit: It's now two weeks before their opening, and it's been...something. I never did listen to the entire soundtrack. That's what I'm currently doing. Maybe I'll understand what's going on more while doing choreography stuff.
